  1. Windows 7 is still the second most popular PC operating system by far, about double all mac osx systems combined.

Since many of those win7 computers aren't win10 compatible, switching to linux is not a bad idea.  Is there any urgency to do so.  Microsoft may have dropped support but the browsers still support it.  Antivirus and malware software will continue to support it for a while like they do xp.

    I'm not impressed.

The CPU benchmarks are a different story.  Perhaps there will be Groovymame/Groovyarcade support for the VCS.  That would be an appealing use case for the machine.  Although, it would need proper driver support, because we can already get wrong speed or frame rate conversion on other PC's.  I want the refesh rate to perfectly match the source (not get close with mode lines). The VCS has one predictable GPU configuration, so that could be an advantage.  I'd love to see a turnkey Groovymame console solution.

You want to connect the new vcs to an old crt?

  3. That board is old; from 1980 and probably made in usa.  Intv didn't start making intellivisions until 1985 and who knows when these localised for the middle east were produced.  What's the interface between the pal daughterboard and the main board.  With all the glue on the stic chip it looks like an ntsc board converted to pal.

  4. That's a mechanical problem with the intellivision controller flex circuit.  Each keypad button grounds two pins.  Those pins are shared with the disc and side buttons.  If pressing a keypad button grounds only one pin you inadvertently get a disc direction.  But it shouldn't trigger a side button action.

I've hooked my Steam Controller up to the VCS, can't remember if it worked or not.  The DS4 worked as a mouse though.

There was talk on the Atari Discord about maybe doing a revision with an access panel on the bottom.  Kind of hard to figure out with the way the case is designed.  Doesn't help that the motherboard has the ram on the bottom with the cpu on the top and the two m.2 slots on the top as well.

To be fair, it's not hard to open up and put them in yourself, assuming you have the basic skills of putting together a PC.

The ps4 trackpad looks uncomfortable as a gaming mouse.

I haven't seen any notebook computer that has more than one or two screws to access ram.  The VCS not only has all those screws, there are a number of other things to disconnect that can break if you're not careful.  Skills are more in line with notebook computer repair than PC maintenance.  With no bottom access panel, ram should have been on top.

  6. Anyone try a Steam controller.  It has a mouse/trackpad on a game controller.

The video I watched had too many parts that needed to be removed to get to the RAM.   Everything you take out has the potential to get lost or break.   Maybe they did it wrong, IDK.   But I would want a device that has RAM that is intended to be user upgraded to just have a compartment lid that pops off.   Like the STe, or even better, modern laptpops

They obviously knew it needed an access panel for the ram.  It was omitted to save cost.

Always heard that, but are Mattel suing sites who hosted roms of the MOTU 2600 or INTV games?  Nope.  Selling a reproduction cartridge would lead to intervention, simply releasing the rom, they won't care.

I don't see anyone spending thousands of dollars to simply leak the rom; it could happen.

A lawyer is a lawyer and when they send a C&D Letter, it’s high time to seriously consider what your next action will be because their next action could range from nothing as they were just trying to put the “fear of God” in you or it could be very serious.

It’s easy to champion for someone else to acquire the prototype or rom image and make it available to the masses when you are free from any liability or culpability.

in the end, hopefully everything will work out, but there is a huge spotlight on this He-Man proto right now and most assuredly their are interested parties paying close attention even though it is a 36 year old game for a 38 year old console.

I didn't suggest what anyone should do; they made it clear what their intentions were and how much they were willing to spend to do it.  Intellivision Productions, as I said before, was a company that owned videogame intellectual properties and their business was licensing them out; so they couldn't very well ignore the IP rights of others.  Mattel is a six billion dollar company with lots of products, their concern is the quality/reputation of their brands.  Peyo is a family who's trying to squeeze every dollar out of their one IP.

Well, it's not really that easy of an issue as can be seen by the BSRs donating one proto PCB to the NVM, a member of the BSR auctioning off his proto PCB and a third proto PCB still being in limbo. If it was as easy a matter as your post suggests, then the BSRs would have moved forward with a release years ago like they have done with other protos throughout the years.

So if CollectorVision had won the auction, they would be facing the same exact issues that the BSRs have faced for years concerning trying to make a physical release of He-Man akin to what CollectorVision faced when they attempted to release Smurf for the Intellivision, Youki experienced with his Smurf game and others have experienced throughout the years with games related to certain properties. It's easy for us to sit on the sidelines and say just do this or just do that, but ultimately we wouldn't be the one's sticking our necks out and as well as our families if legal action were to be taken.

In a perfect world and with no legal ramifications in site, it still would be a considerable amount of time before that rom image was made available to be played on your AtariMax cart or Phoenix systems and in the meantime there would be all THOSE posts asking when will it be made available.

Collectorvision and Intellivision Productions (now Blue Sky Rangers Inc) were in very different situations.  Peyo and Mattel are very different as well.

  10. The area above and below the 192 lines are not blank; they're part of the coloured border.  The program can colour the border any of the sixteen intellivision colours.  Does the intellivision not draw 240 lines including the border.

"Today we take a look at Masters of the Universe: The Power of He-Man for Colecovision. Completed at the height of the crash of ’83, Masters of the Universe was a fairly popular hit for the Atari 2600 & Intellivision consoles. However, the Colecovision version went unreleased despite the fact that it boasted expanded gameplay and superior graphics as well as a crossover audience with cartoon and action figure fans.

I had learned Z-80 while programming Utopia for Aquarius, so was a natural choice for Colecovision development when it was started in mid-late 1983. It boggles my mind a little how close I came to releasing four titles on three platforms at a job I held for only 27 months. I don't remember much about the specifics of developing the game, except that it was a fairly direct port of the Intellivison version, but taking advantage of any improvements that were possible.

I expect it's a faithful conversion of the intellivision game play

  12. Intellivision:

Space Battle, Auto Racing, AD&D, Sub Hunt, Dreadnaught Factor

    Atari 2600:

    Boxing, Warlords, Kaboom, Phoenix, Battlezone

    Colecovision:

Alcazar, Fortune Builder, Boulderdash, Jumpman Jr, Choplifter

**Note that I left out two player only games because I can't play them anytime I want.

I did not know Thexder was on Colecovision.  Very cool.

I still have a functioning Mac Plus with a floppy emulator so I can play Thexder.

Thexder on Colecovision is an MSX port and requires the OpcodeSGM sound chip.

  13. It shouldn't be hard to make an Intellivision cartridge playing peripheral.  All you need is a usb cartridge dumper, which we have; a cross platform emulator, which we have.  Just need some software to connect the two.

It never came out, but definitely something we gotta bring back!!!!

Ha!  That would be something!  I have no idea.  @RxScram is probably a better person to ask!

If Intellivision Entertainment shares the controller API, anyone should be able to write a driver for it.

In the Amico podcast from 1/17, Rich mentions he got a golden ticket for pre-ordering the FE.  I pre-ordered the FE as well but never got a golden ticket.  Was I supposed to get one?  I have the receipt for the pre-order.  The only 2 times I got a golden ticket was when I bought a shirt & mug from the IE shop in late 2019.  After that Tommy said no more golden tickets were being sent out.

The founders edition will come with a "$50 RFID golden ticket gift card".

  16. The game needs the internet for installation.  If it's deleted for whatever reason, it will have to be reinstalled from the internet or from a backup; however they decide to implement it.

The question of authentication needs clearing up,  because if you take some game licenses to a friend's amico; they are supposed to be disabled on one amico when played on another.
