  1. On any other os, if the spinner is seen as an analog axis it's not going to work properly with mame arcade tempest or arkanoid or any other game that uses a digital spinner. Should work with mame arcade games that use an analog paddle e.g. super breakout, and of course the atari 2600 paddle games. If it were seen as a mouse axis, it would work fine with all emulators. It's not working with steam probably because the joystick is seen as a pov hat rather than an x/y axes. Maybe it's different in xbox/xinput mode. I also heard something about these controllers behaving differently between USB and bluetooth modes.
  2. The seller is not the only one with a rom image backup, the leak could come from others. What recourse would the buyer have if IE made a deal with mattel and the game was put on a commercial collection? None. I think some big money collectors like having something that very few people can play. Doesn't change the fact that the piece is still incredibly rare but I would think the value takes a hit.
  3. Warlords and other paddle games won't be right without a proper controller. Looking forward to seeing these types of games demoed with an amico controller.
  4. Are you talking about the delay leaving the menu after selecting the game or in-game controller lag? All game videos/images comes from the official youtube page; official news from the news section on their website. Unofficial news ... sometimes from the oeb panel on youtube when the ceo pops on.
  5. If your electronics completely power off you wouldn't be able to turn them on with a remote. Most consumer electronics go into some sort of standby mode when you hit the power button. The Amico is bluetooth controller compatible, feel free to connect any bluetooth game controller; can't say all the games will play well with a third party controller.
  6. There are astrocade cartridges titled Space Invaders and others Astro Battle; same game, same number and label saying Bally Professional Videocade and copyright 1977. Not sure what the story is there. Wikipedia does say that Midway (owned by Bally) "lost their license with Taito" by 1979. Then, according to an astrocade faq, Bally withdrew the Bally Professional Arcade from the market in 1980, the year Midway licensed Galaxian and then Pacman. Another group reintroduced the system in 1981 as the Bally Computer System until it was renamed Astrocade in 1982. The astrocade galaxian cartridge is called Galactic Invasion and has the same Bally Professional Videocade label as previous cartridges with a 1981 copyright. The Incredible Wizard cartridge came out in 1982 with an astrocade label and 1981 copyright. Mame is a good astrocade emulator if anyone wants to try the games. Only problem might be games that use both the joystick and rotary paddle at the same time e.g. gunfight.
  7. So you have the v3.0 retronic firmware rather than v3.2; probably a good idea. As long as the disc and buttons are responding appropriately in the test, the controller/usb is functioning correctly.
  8. Hackfiles are for the jzintv emulator, they don't do anything for openemu/bliss. Does the intellivision/retronic work as a general game controller? You can test here. https://gamepad-tester.com
  9. An app won't necessarily give you joystick control; all they need is a game controller to mouse driver for the system. The atari companion app is meant to drive a mouse using your mobile device. Otherwise are there any streaming issues through the browser. My Bell TV service doesn't have a windows app and streams through a browser.
  10. Channel F had its chance being first to market and in major retailers; less so for the Astrocade which I understand had manufacturing and reliability issues. The Astrocade is a far more interesting machine; it is a couple of years newer and had more software effort. The problem with both machines is neither had video game specific hardware and used ram inefficiently. The channel f had more than 2kB ram and the astrocade 4kB while the atari 2600 had 128 bytes and the intellivision about 1k ram. The astrocade did get a couple of first party arcade ports and interestingly I think they are true ports because of the hardware. Still their software focus trails that of Atari or Mattel. I can't say I've used either controller but I've heard good things about them and they look more ergonomic than other handheld joysticks, particularly the astrocade because it has a fire button. The integrated rotary paddle allows for some unique gameplay.
  11. I can backup an app on my phone and install on another device; no internet required. This does not backup any data or license information, just the program. No reason Amico can't do this, it's part of android, they just have to make it available. The license would still come from the physical item. It would be like installing an amico game with a borrowed license from a controller. Once the controller/license is taken away the game is still installed; only doesn't work without a license. It's up to them to enable such a feature, physical game media is not required.
  12. Insignificant? perhaps. Atari SA knew what to expect through the igg campaign. They could have cancelled and returned everyone's money. They chose to go ahead with it knowing the numbers. If that's not good enough for some of the people here, that's your problem.
  13. Sure but I'm talking about sales expectations. As far as what people think of the product, thousands of people spoke with their wallets while I only see a handful of people here complaining.
  14. Considering that the switch is both a handheld and a console it's far from being nintendo's second best selling system. Doesn't mean it's not successful and it doesn't matter what the fans or critics think, it's a matter of meeting Nintendo's expectations. And no closed system with commercial collections can be the ultimate retro system because, for one, they can never have all the titles people are looking for due to licensing. That can only happen with an open system. Atari SA used to be a software developer and publisher; never hardware. They went bankrupt a few years ago; shut it all down and liquidated all IP assets. Nobody bought the atari brand at liquidation but it still has value for licensing, so Atari SA didn't die. What do you think their expectations were for the atari vcs? Doesn't matter what the fans or critics think.
  15. While most people have a PC in the home not that many have a comparable set top box on their TV; and hooking up your laptop to your TV is not the same. Also most people don't have an xbox/ps/switch either. Sure they play the same indie games but that's not how they are marketed and the way they are marketed works against them for a large segment of the population. That's not to say that xbox/ps/switch aren't great and successful machines but they cater to a certain market. There is a market for streaming set top boxes, and a subset of that adds playing indie games. Why not an atari vcs for the thousands of atari fans. It's a niche market that's already been established by a successful crowdfunding campaign
  16. Sure you can but you should probably buy additional storage to install ubuntu or windows, better if you take apart the vcs and add storage internally. If your time is worth anything you might want to get something complete and ready to go. If they made the debian linux part of the atari os accessible you might not have to bother with that.
  17. Sea Battle and NFL Football are excellent but are for two players only. Space Battle, Sub Hunt, and Skiing are also among the best cartridges for the system.
  18. As a PC the atari vcs is far from complete, unless you're okay with chrome apps. You can get a complete PC with linux preinstalled for less but not much less. Besides raspberry pi, you can also get a complete arm based PC or set top box with linux or other os pre-installed and ready to go. Is it possible to side load and run debian linux programs in the atari os?
  19. The 2600dapter, upci, retronic usb all turn these old joysticks and gamepads into standard hid usb game controllers. They'll work with any compatible computer including raspbian/retropie.
  20. See the web site about direct orders. http://ltoflash.leftturnonly.info
  21. Altirra should work on linux with wine. You can put windows rather than linux if you want. Does anyone know how the atari spinner works on linux/windows. Does it become a mouse axis?
  22. The native os supports mice and therefore any usb trackball. Install kubuntu and you can add mame, stella and any game rom files you like.
  23. Go for the Gold was never released. The rom file on the intellivision lives cd is just a menu. Since it's just a compilation of previously released games a working rom file was put together. The same was done with a Party Line rom file.
  24. If someone is looking for an inexpensive streaming device that plays games; a raspberry pi is a very good choice, but not the choice for most people. There are many to choose from including Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, even Chromecast supports bluetooth game controllers now.
  25. I wouldnt't compare this atari vcs to a raspberry pi. It's not a hobby computer. It's more comparable to an nvidia shield. As far as why it exists; that's very simple. It's a typical crowdfunded project. Atari SA asked if people are interested; and thousands responded yes. Once all the backers receive their units the project is a success.
