so perhaps the reason it seems that it only registers a collision when the legs touch is that is maximizes the amount of time the two items are overlapping?
-
... but which pixels are used? because many times, they appear to pass through each other unimpacted. (its one of the frustrating points of the game)
-
Can anyone pinpoint where exactly the hitbox is to register a collision between your man and the bit? As near as I can tell its his legs (only while jumping; disabled when dropping down a level or riding an elevator)

I think Base Attack is a PAL game
Missile Control is another cool PAL game... nice twist on Missile Command
I'm also fond of Room of Doom from CommaVid
for homebrew, check out Omicron

I'm dying on things I can't even see in the 4th level.
If the worms get to the kids before you save them, you lose.
-

(I beat both games)

Overlooked Gems:
Room of Doom: As you progress to the higher levels it gets pretty hectic
Adventures of Tron: The hit detection is a little wonky, but I keep coming back to this one over and over again.
Reactor: It's like playing bumper cars with mosquitos inside a giant bug zapper
Wizard of Wor: Great with 2 players
Blueprint: primarily a memory game combined with some shooting and maze/creature dodging...
Solar Fox: Its like playing pac-man/qbert inside a bullet hell
Stampede: So much more depth than meets the eye, lots of strategy to the bumping and clearing of lanes
Beamrider: Fantastic shooter. Looks and plays great.
Dolphin: reminds me of the laser gates and hypno orb racing levels from Battletoads, meets the Ecco the dolphin

My guess is an Atari themed subscription box.

Lot of Nintendo fanboys come here to post garbage, have to make sure you're not one of them
NintendoAge has a very active Atari high score board and discussion thread.
-
Another method that occured to me.. is player graphics can slide along walls if you convert their positions to playfield pixel coordinates... maybe you could make a playfield graphic in a circle shape and hide it by making it the same color as the background.

E.T. would have been much less maligned if he had just put E.T. on solid ground after he got out of the pit. Having him still hovering over the pit when the screen changes and having you fall back in if you continue pushing up is what caused 99% of the frustration people had.

I had a Frogger board game as a kid, and it was great!
-
Kirk Isreal also has a good tutorial.

I found his code to be very well documented for a newbie to understand. I was going through his "thin red line" code today and was able to add a few lines to get a second missile moving in the opposite direction with a different speed and color. I was quite proud I could figure it out.

Bought a set of patches from him. They are awesome. Thanks!

Bought a box of games from him. Very good experience!

You are forgetting that the flagships are worth 800 pts. BY THEMSELVES when you destroy both of their escorts first. You still get 100 pts. for each escort in flight. (21x60)+(7x80)+(5x100)+(2x800)=3920
Thanks!
-
(21x60)+(7x80)+100+(2x800)=3520. I know for a fact you can get more than that in wave 1. Quoting the instructions doesn't help me since I was already reading them.

Can anyone tell me what the score for a perfect wave one in Galaxian is? I think its 4000, but I haven't been able to do it yet, so I'm not sure. I tried to figure it out with a calculator based on the number of enemies and the scores the manual says you get, but I came up with 3,520 and I know thats not right because I've gotten 3,700 before (and that's including a couple mistakenly destroyed formation ships)

Yar's Revenge is overrated, almost to the same degree E.T. is underrated.
