seems a little unnatural to be viewing the cabinet from so far back

This was one of the games I used to most frequently play on emulator. I got pretty far in it. I now have it on cartridge and for the 360 collection. I like it a lot. Playing against the AI and watching what they do is a good way to learn strategies to get better.

The original Boy and his blob was a fantastic concept and impressive bit of programming that needed better level designs. Looks this remake filled that niche.

I have found some good deals on craigslist... it does take more patience than ebay for sure.

Gotta go with Guardian Legend on the NES and the creepy snake face dude

Meanwhile, Japan got this cool picture on their version:

I suspect some of the new collectors might drop out, but plenty will stay. The supply of old games isn't getting any bigger, so if the demand continues, and the supply dwindles... well the economics are not surprising.

I want a Vectrex, but I can't afford it at the moment.

Pitch is funded which is nice to see. I'm all for supporting hand drawn animated films (Redline, Studio Ghibli etc) so I'm hoping they get the funds to do the movie. I'm not as negative though cause I know it can be done. Don Bluth is getting up there in age and I for one, would love to see an animated Dragons Lair movie. I wish them all the best.
I don't mean to be negative..I also love traditional animation and am beginning to get burnt out by all the CG cartoons. I would totally love a Dragon's Lair movie! I just don't understand why they need to beg their fans for money to make that happen. Why do they need a sizzle reel of new animation? If the end goal with this money is to make a video that shows a bunch of Dragon's Lair footage with a narrator saying "This would be a cool movie! Invest today!" why couldn't they just cobble that together with footage from the games and tv series? I have yet to see any explanation or justification for this campaign.

The best thing is to hop on a emulator and try out every game and see which ones you like and then go get those cartridges.
Some cool ones not yet mentioned:
Dodge 'em
Montezuma's Revenge
Private Eye
cakewalk
Missile control

You can try to aim for an old Video/Audio Home Cinema Ampifier from the pre-hdmi generation. It's very convenient to connect multiple inputs to one output (=TV or beamer) and choose the channel via remote.

Welcome back!
I also returned to the TI-99 world in 2009 with buying the real iron. Emulators are not the same

The 99/4A console has composite out as well, so you can skip the tv-modulator. The picture will be far better with composite.
Yea, I'm using the composite out. I hook it up to my CRT... only problem is I have a lot of game consoles sharing that TV and have to constantly swap them out.

Cool! Welcome to the TI Club.
Say, if you are comfortable with a soldering iron, you may want to consider << THIS PROJECT >>.
For the price of a couple of Ebay purchased cartridges, you could get that console updated to use the new breed of cartridges, and that will save you a ton of money because you'll be able to use all the new mega-game cartridges listed in
<< THIS MESSAGE >>.
I have never soldered anything before... and I'm not sure I understand what that project does or what new breed cartridges are.

I've been wanting to get a TI for a while but I didn't want to pay to ship a large box. I finally found one local!! Now I just need to rebuy some of the other cartridges from my childhood collection. (Also need to get the speech synthesizer module)

Last night I play some Yars Revenge, Asteroids, Space Invaders, and Superman.
My 2 year old was playing with me.
(I still get lost in the city with superman.)

The new campaign video is a million times better, You can tell that they rethought it and the goal has been made much more realistic.
I still don't get the logic of putting a lot time and money into a pitch video for an already established property with plenty of pre-existing footage, but if people want to hand over their hard earned money to facilitate it so be it.

Attack of the creepers?
that's a minus sign in between the two pictures

I know its a electro-mechanical, but ice cold beer would be fun if ported into a virtual format.

I haven't bought any REALLY big $$ games, the most expensive I bought were in the low-mid range: Rockin' Kats and Buckey O'hare for NES and Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis. I think they were worth it for the price I got, but not a penny more... as prices continue to rise, I would probably just have to pass on anything more than that... Games like Metal Storm and Gun Nac are already well past what I would be willing to pay, even though I am interested in them from a gamer perspective.
-
Although, now that've I gotten bit by the retro gaming bug, the first thing I did was go out and by a NES and a Genesis! (the two consoles I played the most when visiting friends)
-
I had a TI-99/4a up until the 1990 when we got a 286 PC... never had a NES as a kid, and didn't get my 2600 until around 88/89. I just spent a lot of time gaming at my friends houses. Sometimes I wished I had one of my own, but honestly, I got to play plenty so I was far from deprived. Plus, I had a lot of fun with the games I did have. So no reason to complain.

I would be more likely to buy 1 dual system than new separate handheld and console systems
