still struggling, something about this game, nothing over 500! Can someone share their pattern? Thanks
I like to clear out the middle "H" and then immediately trap a cat in it, then I clear the upper right, then upper left, then I use a dog bone to clear the lower right, then another dog bone to clear the lower left.
The levels get pretty repetitive, so if you can get break 2000, you should be able to roll the score with a little perseverance. Just don't get careless, the wait time before the cats come out can be a bit random, so better to play it safe and use a bone than be sorry.

Since the bombs are so fast and frequent as to be nearly unavoidable, the only way to get a good score is to keep playing over and over until you get a lucky break with the bomb pattern and don't get wiped out by the first row. The upper rows are moderately dodgeable, but barely. To get 500+ you must hit the saucer.

The secret is that at the end of the game you're awarded 10,000 points for every cross you've collected, and coffins that contain crosses will have another cross in them if you leave the room and come back. The rest is up to you.

You also getting points for pushing against the wall as it moves away from you.

By the way, Rob Fulop's high score on Cosmic Ark was 17,500
and to earn the Gold Thumb award you needed 30,000 (Which would earn you a sticker)
Dragonfire's score requirement was 25,000

The origin of Cosmic Ark (and more importantly the star field) which doesn't display properly on Javatari emulator....

Finally made it to the white dragon.
To me, Dragonfire epitomizes the "just one more game" mentality. Its very addictive, even though I'm not that great at it. Extra kudos to Bob Smith for making the game reset with the joystick button! I always appreciate it when I don't have to hit reset to get back in the action.

Cool, thanks for digging that up. It was a thought I had after reading the manual. I agree with you that I don't want to use that technique either, since it sounds like it's just "not fun" to even play it.
I wish the game was either something like... the higher level you are, the more points basic ships are worth. Or once you've blown up the required amount of ships to move to the next era, all the enemies become the boss ship so that you don't have any choice but to progress if you want more points.
My idea: is to implement a countdown timer that begins after you get the required number of ships, so you will be warped with or without killing the boss, but obviously you would miss out on the points if you don't go for the boss ship. For this variation the advanced strategy would be to try to cut it as close as possible, killing basic ships as the timer counts down and then hitting the boss at the last second.

I'd rate this game about on par with Commando Raid. Its better than Wabbit or Raft Rider, but not as good as Squeeze Box or Eggomania. (Sneak'n'Peek is my personal US Game favorite.)
