Could it be shaved down to fit into the Intv2?  That could be something the end-user could do so the added work isn't a factor on your end -  but let's hope the end user doesn't make a mistake :grumble:

But for the original consoles, this DB9 size isn't a concern once the adapter cables are installed into the console.  Assuming that the adapter cables are still something that can be purchased :dontknow:

Having the Intv1-to-DB9 adapter cables would offer the best flexibility, but another possibility would be that your sega-to-inty adapter could be purchased either with a DB9 end or an Inty1 end :five:

I really enjoyed the reimagined series.  I tried watching the original, but couldn't get into it.  Maybe someday.

    I am quite the opposite.

I could not get into the reimagined series, but i like watching the original

We won't know the full effects of COVID until after the lockdown is over.  Los Angeles county just said that businesses can't open until August now.  If that happens in Orange County (we are the next county over from L.A.) I can tell you that it won't be ready by October... or even by the end of the year!  We need to be in the same room in order to complete hardware.  Especially to the level we're doing.  Imagine telling a car manufacturer to make a car but everyone needs to stay apart in different places.  Being apart for smaller games doesn't affect the software/games... but the hardware.  Yes.  2 of our guys are literally hand building controllers from scratch to get to our many developers around the world.  And parts are very late and delayed from China and of course need to be quarantined the second they arrive and are opened.  But if it takes 2 people to build a controller... how can you accomplish this when everything is in the office?  One guy comes in and does what he can do, then another comes in after that, etc.  How can we all test the different parts of the hardware when each machine part needs a ton of testing and companies that do it are closed and the hardware we have is limited.  It's crazy, but we're trying our best given the circumstances and health/lockdown laws that the state of California has placed upon everyone.  It is what it is.  Nothing we can do except try our hardest and work as long as humanly possible.  We were really hoping California would be "opened up" by May 1st.  And now they're talking about being closed til August?  Impossible to get hardware done in that time.  I refuse to put out a product that isn't the best it could be.  We're not going to rush it or cut corners and take shortcuts.  Part of the reason J Allard is such an important part of the team now.  He's been through the "red ring of death" and knows why and what happened.  Not enough time for heat and component testing was a big part of that.  I'm doing everything in my power to keep the promise I made to my mom, dad & brother about honoring my sister Karen's birthday on 10/10.  They keep telling me over and over not to worry.  And if this crap continues for another month... it's out of my hands.  :(  But maybe if 10/10 slips I can do something super special on 10/10.  Maybe have a huge public showing where the general public can play all the games for the first time (like what we had planned for E3 and Gamescom).  Maybe we do one on the west coast (LA?) and one on the east coast (NYC?).  I don't know... I really don't feel like thinking about it or discussing that at this point.  10/10 launch is still our #1 goal right now.

Founders Editions would be a few days before launch I would imagine... not a few weeks.

Road Rash would be pretty cool.  EA would need to be on board.  Probably wouldn't happen til 2022.

sounds like you need to open an R&D office in a less restricted county :)

Now I know this thing is tiny, a LOT smaller than the other Flashbacks, and that's why I LOVE it. I will get it modded like the one in this thread. My questions are as follows:

    1. Where can I get the script to get the switches working and connected to the GPIO? They are functionally identical to the buttons from the other Atari Flashbacks, just now proper switches, like a real 2600, and in the "correct" order. minus b/w switch (Power, Left Difficulty, Right Difficulty, Select, Reset). I may even add in a Black & White switch for more authenticity and for use in some games for reasons other than lack of color. Can someone post the scripts for all 5 (six hopefully) buttons/ switches, if not along with an image for the Pi Zero that hopefully someone has made, or the script(s) by themselves. I may do something else with the power button for a Pi shutdown instead.

    2. Again, I know this thing is tiny, so for that and other reasons, I'm using a Pi Zero. I don't want to play anything past the 80s on this bad boy anyway.

    3. What are the dimensions of the "naked" "daptors"? I'm sure I can fit em in somehow, along with micro to full HDMI adapter, tiny 4 port USB hub with two ports going external and possibly micro USB extender (depending on how I fit the Pi in here) for the power, and of course the Pi Zero.

The Pi0 cannot using the same image that is used here that is made for the Pi2 and Pi3

You will need to build your own using the RetroPie version for the Pi0

As I mentioned in my post in the other thread, I have helped other AA members with scripts.

I do not want to hijack this thread.

Please send me a PM and we can see what I can do to help you.

Frank Palazzolo has the data for all of the keyboard component programs I believe. He's been slowly working on an emulator for the Keyboard and has the basic operating on the system.

Here is a picture of Frank (in the middle) along with myself (left) and Carl Mueller on the right outside of Detroit in the late 90s I believe.

I'm selling a bunch of Intellivision homebrew games and etc on ebay, username oratorio-tangram.  If you buy on AA, then price can be dropped 11% due lack of fees here vs. eBay.  I'm selling everything as I no longer have any income.

Sorry to hear about the financial problems.

It is always a tough decision, but certainly understandable.

Let's hope this economy turns around sooner rather than later

is that why many of your posts in other threads are always multiple in a row?

Yeah, but I mean will it look all cool exactly like ByteKnight's stuff, and can I use the script to use the buttons/ AKA switches? And about systems, yeah that's fine, as I said PRE-NES, meaning just Atari-era stuff.

Byte Knight uses RetroPie, but he uses his own theme, but other than that yours will be functional identical.  I think he theme is floating around in the main The Ultimate Intellivision Flashback thread, but we can help you with that later.

In regards to the buttons and switches, this will require confirmation of how they function, and then it will take a script running in the background to monitor them.  The script will "press" a keyboard button when the button/switch changes state.

The emulator will do what that keyboard button is mapped out to be.

The three emulators each use different keyboard inputs for quit, restart, pause, etc.

so you will need to decide what keyboard "buttons" are pressed for each button in the script and then you need to configure each emulator to use that particular button to said function.

I have helped other AA members with this type of script, but you will need to configure the emulators yourself to match the script.

Thank you. I have a bunch of Pi Zero's ($5 at Microcenter), and on this project, I think it would be best. I just found and ordered a Flashback X on Mercari for $34.00. It's pretty tiny, like the (S)NES Classic, so I don't think a regular Pi will fit. Besides, I only want to play pre-NES on this unit.

Has anyone made any of these "Ultimate" images for the Zero?

Yes, install jzintv, standalone stella, and the coolcv

They are all in the optional packages that you can install.

These will work good in the Pi0 - I have no experience with NES emulators on a Pi0

I have the Atari Flashback 2 which is a pretty decent.  How's the emulation on the INTV Flashback?

The Atari FB2 is neat in that you can add a cartridge port and play using real Atari 2600 carts

    https://archive.is/20130117160348/http://atarimuseum.com/fb2hacks/

But there is a cart compatibility chart floating around.  There are various posts in the Atari Systems > Dedicated Systems subforum and the Atgames Flaskback and Portable Consoles subforum about this hack.

In regards to the emulation used in the Intellivision Flashback, I can't rightly speak about it.  I got mine, played Space Spartans a few times and then I rebuilt it with a Raspberry Pi.

    • Haha 1

  13. The internal board is fairly basic and not really serviceable.

As 1980gamer mentioned, it can be rebuilt using a Raspberry Pi.  You can go to Intellivision subforum here and look for the Ultimate Intellivision Flashback thread.

Basically the main flashback board is removed and it is replaced.

If you don't want to have it rebuilt/upgraded then it is possible that Byte Knight (or another member here) has an original Flashback board from one of his previous rebuilds.

If you are handy, then you can rebuild it yourself.  That thread has many comments and we can all offer tips, too.

Does that require soldering of the wires?

    no

The wires in the cable use an odd connector (if that is what you want to call it) that simply slides on to the board.  More like a press-fit.

Each wire is connected individually, but be mindful that the connector can be broken, and if you break it then you will need to solder that particular wire to the board - or use a different joystick or replace the cable.
