Grrr! Why can't I upload photos???

Rather an appropriate way of describing game glitches when it's applied to Food Fight. Earlier this evening, I was playing IIRC round 16 on the advanced difficulty setting, and the game froze on my. The digits in the score changed, and it looks like some of them changed to GCC. While leaving the game on, some more random graphics appeared, one of which looked like a capital "A".

Have a JVC VCR/DVD burner, two Philips all-region DVD players that also play .xvid and various computer formats (plus another one that only works sporadically). Both my TVs have 1080 capability, but I don't have Blu-ray just yet -- that depends on how much my income tax refund is. (Plus, I don't watch many movies, mostly old TV.) Oh, and a 1984-vintage Toshiba TV for my Atari playing.

Did you guys know there was an easter egg in Asteroids?
Chris-in-NJ replied to PacManPlus's topic in Atari 7800
Just did it too. Remember, it's the right joystick that does it. Nothing's needed in the left. -
Been playing it again recently, but on the Advanced level. Managed to get over 23,000 on the first bonus round, having gotten "extra bonus" twice and "hold sphinx" during the first round. On the higher levels, all I do is stay walking in the lower right-hand corner shooting away. Most of the enemies will simply run right into your arrows suicidally.

"You are about to enter a new dimension of experience. You will venture to a place beyond reality, where both space and time transform into grotesque realities..." I must've played my tape of this so many times that I've got most of the dialogue memorized by now. Now, if I could only find the hatch key.

What is Dual Pac-Man? Love the labels, maybe I'll attempt to make some some day...
-
I love it. Copied it to a cassette way back when when I picked it up in a game store, and still have the cassett, it's creepy.e. Back in 1990 in high school, I played it on the cable TV station they had on Halloween.

My brother e-mailed me a link to this YouTube video about the 1983 Consumer Electronics Show, which features a nice bit about Cookie Monster Munch. The video was apparently posted by that game's designer, Gary Stark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OItxKQ1W23w While watching, check out those clunky VCRs and camcorders

What have you actually PLAYED this week? New Top Ten
Chris-in-NJ replied to cvga's topic in Atari 2600
Jr. Pac-Man, 30 minutes Lock 'n' Chase, 45 minutes 7800 Desert Falcon, 30 minutes Infiltrate, 5 minutes M.A.D., 3 minutes Midnight Magic, 10 minutes -
Was playing Infiltrate a few hours ago, finally seeming to get the hang of it (ie actually reaching the "wall" twice in one game!). Tried to put it in my 7800 a few minutes ago, and didn't get the angle right, and now the chip has moved lower down into the casing. Is this sort of thing easy to fix?

Thanks. All four of my Prolines have developed problems of one sort or another within the past couple of months. One I have would always go to the right, so I tried this and it worked. Also pushed in the contacts at the bottom of the PC board as a few of them, particularly the one that I suppose is for left, seemed a bit loose. Stick now works again, though it seems a bit stiff. (I guess this is how it was when new.)

The ghosts stop moving, and the siren stops, every now and then on the arcade game too. I think their eyes look all over the place while they're stopped too. I could, of course, be completely mistaken...

Not much, but the 2600 games that have been in my 7800 this past week include: Jr. Pac-Man Pac-Man (playing the hardest game on difficulty 'a') Go Fish and a bit of Squish 'Em -
Love the design on those Turkish carts, mix of silver label and picture label.

NE146: you may well think that, I couldn't possibly comment! I've recently played the arcade game, which was in a Ms. Pac-Man/Galaxian cabinet that had been converted to play 40-odd games, and with the stock Ms. Pac stick, I had great difficulty in maneuvering around the maze, whereas, irony of ironies, the 5200 version with a digital stick I find incredibly easy, short blue time and all.
-
I'll have one please! Much as I like the 5200 version, it's just too easy, and I find myself passing stage 20 nearly every time I play it; the arcade version is much more difficult, and I hope yours is too (that not as difficult as 2600 Jr. Pac-Man...)

What are your favourite Atari 2600 sound effects?
Chris-in-NJ replied to Supermarket's topic in Atari 2600
The energy fanfare in Vanguard. -
In the past few weeks, I've fired up Midnight Magic on my trusty old 7800, and almost every time I do absolutely wonderful on my first ball and crap on all the others. One game I got around 880,000 before I lost my "first" ball and had the score multiplier reset. My final score was just over 900,000. Another game, I managed more than 500,000 on the "first" ball, added about another 120,000 on the second, and then blew it on the rest. Still love the game to bits, though. I actually find myself shaking and get sweaty palms once I achieve 5x.
-
I absolutely hated it too. Think I tried several dozen times to finish the second board and never could, so I sold it. It reminds me a lot of the games my friend had for his Apple //e, graphics-wise, such as Droll, Lode Runner, and a few others I can't remember as it's been >25 years now.

You have some sort of gaming museum, Harmik? I'd love to be able to connect each of my consoles to its own dedicated monitor like that!
-
My five-year-old daughter wanted to play some Atari this morning, and asked for "the jumping game", so I put A-VCS-tec Challenge into my 7800. One problem though: everything was slowing down, which is most noticeable because of the music. Switching the music off seemed to cure the problem. What's going on here? My system is NTSC if that means anything. I've noticed some slowdown and screen rolling on Go Fish too recently. Is it my 7800 doing this? I'm posting in the 2600 forum as these are 2600 games.

international atari information from the 80s - please contribute!

Looking at that "Made in Ireland" console, I think it rather unlikely that they'd sell a console with a "COLOUR / B&W" switch in countries that drop the U from the first word. Unless, of course, they also made them with "COLOR / B&W" switches... -

What's Galactic Tactic? I can't find it in the Atarimania database... Is it the same as Galactic?
