  1. Yes, it is possible. I'll have to ask Torben not to convert it to a cartridge .bin and leave it as a .dsk file since he is using E/A and a stock TI system. With the disk, TI99-PC can be used to convert the image to a real TI disk and played that way.
  2. Yep there was a sequel to Parsec, but this will be one done along the lines of the original: scrolling screens, enemies blasting, etc. Even having levels where you go through caves and such. More like a Gradius/Parsec combo. So more or less one true to the original, unlike Beyond Parsec which was a two player game and took place on a single field where you shot asteroids at each other (which is why this will be called Parsec II instead of Beyond Parsec, to show that this is along the lines of the original).
  3. Well, I just sent Torben assembly code for scrolling and such. Assuming he can build off of that, I think there is possibly a demo coming up here soon for Parsec II. Don't quote me on that though!
  4. Smurfs on the loose! (Sorry, got excited about this new development and posted one of Torben's older ideas). I guess a Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle should be next on the TI? Just kidding. Torben better keep his mind concentrated on Parsec now
  5. Lucky for you, there is talk of getting speech in these games. Recording speech using a tool called Quadravox which converts WAV to LPC on a PC is being looked into. Just being looked into at this point, and will be used if possible. As to RAM expansion and what not, this should be made as a cartridge on MESS and if really lucky a stand-alone cartridge for sale on-line (therefore we have a good amount of memory to work with). I do have connections to a guy in South Africa who has the know how to make the carts and get the molds done. Could be exciting
  6. Well, there is an effort to get some new TI games out on the streets after seeing some of the new Colecovision titles. One project involves a sequel to Parsec and another possibly on Super Mario World from the SNES. What I can post here is a title screen (current title) for the new Parsec and title for a TI converted Malaika. Included is an emulator ROM image that shows the title screen moving around. Figured some might be interested in hearing about this project, which seems to be going places. The idea behind this is to get the most out of gameplay and graphics on the TI system, since people have been impressed by the Coleco offerings of recent and feel the need to do the same on the TI. BTW, these projects are being headed by Torben Andersen. You can e-mail me if you have any ideas, suggestions, or know about the TMS9918A graphics chip! Any help is appriciated of course. A screen shot of Super Mario World will be coming in the next few weeks hopefully. We're trying to get the graphics down right now on that one (and it's no easy thing to do!) titlc.bin
  7. Probably not. But since some images come with more than one file, I just zipped them all so everything came in a package. Anyway, from many of the pages I've seen they seem to ZIP the files, so I just followed their lead considering I never hosted a site like this for ROMs. Is there something I should know about placing a ZIP file on-line, such as if you can't download them on a MAC?
  8. There has been talk here (and in other places) about the lack of a site that includes TI-99/4A cartridge ROMs. Well, after distributing a ROM package through e-mail, I decided it was time to put up a site with the stuff The site is located at http://ti99.freewebpage.org/ . If anyone has any problems with downloading ROMs or getting them to run, let me know. Not sure if this is the forum for this or not, but if not feel free to move the post to the proper section. I posted here since this is where I noticed people asking for the ROMs.
  9. There is now I just started one at http://ti99.freewebpage.org/ . Go there and get your fill of goodies. There are still a number of games missing, such as "Meteor Belt" and "Bigfoot" to name a few (which were very good games!). I'll see if I can get ROMs for those somehow to the site.
  10. I wanted to add that a Colecovision PS will power up and work with a 99/4A. I tried it on mine a few years back. So you might have a bad TI, especially since you mentioned the red power light came on and nothing on the TV.
  11. I still have those games actually. The Colecovision games do run slow, unless used on a TI-99/8 which does operate faster. Someone was playing Antartic Adventure on the TI that I know, which is on these disks along with Mr.Do! and such. I never got them to work, since the guy had a MAXIMEM device which is like a cartridge dumper (can load/save TI cartridge games into it and such). I'll see if I can dig up his info on-line. As to the Tomy Tutor, the TMS9918ANL graphics chip is not more advanced than the TMS9918A (I used to think this too). As I found out, the NL stands for the casing/operating temperature. Basically, the TMS9918ANL could operate in hot environments. So if you live in an area that gets up to 158°F then it could make a difference I guess Death Valley would need the ANL chip come to think of it. N=plastic JD=ceramic L=0 to 158°F H=0 to 131°F E=-40 to 185°F Toucan was selling a floppy for the TI that had Tomy Tutor games on it. I don't see how it'd play, considering the Tutor/Pyuuta used a faster processor running at 2.2Mhz (clocked down from the TMS9640's native speed of 10.2Mhz) and a more advanced video processor. Toucan was also selling a floppy with Colecovision games on it, which is another one I have a hard time imagining working well. The TI and Colecovision used the same video chip, but not the main processor. The Colecovision's Z80 was supposed to be faster and more efficient than TI's TMS9900 CPU.
  12. Here's the Pictures. Two of the HD2000/Space Age prototype joysticks and two of the prototype MBX joysticks. As you will see, the nameplates are the same shape it seems. You can compare the MBX sticks here really well with the Space Age sticks on Atariage: http://www.atariage.com/controller_page.ht...ControllerID=18. They are basically the same mold, just with some missing buttons and no rotating knob on the top. Screws are in the same places too.
  13. Well, I guess it makes a lot of sense since MB was to make the Voice Commander for the Atari 2600 and 5200. So I guess having similar joysticks to that of the MBX would have been the logical choice. Probably once that Voice Commander deal fell through, the joysticks were marketed instead. Actually if you look at the MBX sticks in black/red they look even similar to the Space Age ones. I'll get pics of both up soon.
  14. Well, after going through the basement I came across a pair of prototype Atari 2600 Milton Bradley HD2000 Joysticks that I got from a guy who used to work for Milton Bradley. The guy designed the MBX joysticks for the TI-99/4A and I ended up buying his stash of items mainly for the TI-99/4A MBX black/red prototype joysticks that he had. As a bonus he included these with the deal. The MB HD2000 joystick eventually became the Space Age Joystick from what it seems. So these are prototype HD2000/Space Age Joysticks I guess. I have two of these and thought I would mention it on this board since I don't have a need for them and probably will try selling them here or on eBay in the future. Anyone have any inside stories behind these joysicks? I should have asked the guy back then but I only talked with him about the MBX sticks and I got the feeling he didn't want to be too pestered (since I bugged him like crazy about the MBX for the website!).
  15. Well, luckily for you Steve and anyone else interested there have been so many offers for separate items that I feel I could probably piece things out and still get the basement cleaned up in short time. So I'll be willing to take offers on individual items at this point. I'm basically doing a first-come first-serve sort of deal where the first person to e-mail me will get first shot at the items they are interested in.
  16. Here's a big TI-99/4A Inventory Blowout. Attached is a listing for what's being sold. I am taking offers for the entire lot, so hopefully some people out there are interested in getting a huge amount of TI items in a single blow! Send all offers to [email protected] and I'll get back to you. I would have posted the listing here but didn't want to eat up a lot of space on the board. Good luck! As a note, Save the Text file and then open it from your computer. It came out jumbled on mine otherwise. If that still does not work, I posted this for sale listing to comp.sys.ti at http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.ti...261f82f9?hl=en& Inventory_Sale.txt
  17. Check out this auction: 8250353080 It was for an MBX and only went for $66. The seller says he has a few of the systems, try messaging him and see if I sells one to you, even for more money since they are worth at least $100. Maybe you can coax one from him!
  18. Well, I just listed some more TI-99/4A's (Black/Silver) on eBay. I got all these systems in a big lot from Maine which is the reason I have so many of them. I'm trying to move them to good homes at a cheap price. The auction can be checked out here: http://tinyurl.com/777p5 These are going for $7.99 mostly due to the lack of an RF Modulator (TV hookup) and Users Guide. But hey, for $7.99 you can't go wrong with a working TI system
  19. Consider it yours for $35 plus shipping. I've been meaning to sell it the past few months but haven't gotten around to it. The system works and comes with 2 Joysticks, power supply, and headset. I'll also toss in a few game overlays and 10 cartridges that I have for the system (Championship Baseball, Bigfoot, etc). Let me know if this is a deal. Actually, I was only kidding...The MBX will be staying with me for a while, that's too good of an item to give up (especially at $35!). Let me know if I had you going
  20. Just so people are up to date on what's still available, here's the breakdown: 1 Beige TI-99/4A System Complete 1 Black/Silver TI-99/4A System Complete If anyone is still interested in either of these at $8.99 just let me know. I'll probably list them on eBay in a few days if no takers.
  21. I have a beige one (late wife's). The top row of keys doesn't have the legends for QUIT, DELETE, etc. and I haven't seen any photos with enough detail to make out the legends. What are the proper legends for the top row of keys? 998311[/snapback] Here's the proper legends: Delete,Insert,Erase,Clear,Begin,Proceed,Aid,Redo,Back,---,Quit
  22. If anyone wants the Black/Silver systems with the same configuration as in the auction, let me know. I have 2 complete boxed Black/Silver ones that I was going to put on eBay for the same price, but if someone wants them here let me know. Just thought I would mention this for those interested in that model.
  23. You should be happy. There's also a "Read This First" and "Beginner's BASIC Card" with some of the systems, but not in all of them (so I left this out of the description). If you're one of the lucky ones you might get one with the bonus items
  24. I just put up some Tested/Working Boxed TI-99/4A consoles for sale, they are the beige versions and come with Power Supply, RF Modulator, and Both Manuals. They are going for $8.99 on eBay, so they are pretty cheap (at least I think so!). Anyway, I remember some here looking for TI systems and here's a chance to get some boxed ones complete and working. Auction URL: http://tinyurl.com/doxwe
  25. I actually talked with Paul Jaquays from Coleco who mentioned that they outsourced basically everything. Some graphics work and game design was done in-house according to him but that was about it. His webstite is http://www.jaquays.com/paul/product.htm which lists many of the games he managed. As to the companies they used to develop the games, there were probably a plethora of them, since there were so many titles. Here's a quote from an e-mail of his: "We did very little actual game software development in house on any platform … our designers mostly worked with outside teams. We outsourced nearly everything except design and art. We did do a lot of the sprite and tile art in house … our in-house artists were substantially better than most teams working on Colecovision art at the time."
