Most Lynx games are of the arcade-type: just some quick plays and that's all. But there are some games that are deeper than what they seem at first glance.
An example is Scrapyard Dog. Seemingly a Mario clone, there are hundreds of secrets hidden in its worlds. Not only you can find money, weapons and such in trashcans, signs and other places, but there's also some mini-games that will gie you neat items!
What are other Lynx games that have deep gameplay?

I was thinking on something more like this.
HSC #3: Klax
It is the 2000's, and there is still time for Klax. Colored tiles are falling, and it's up to you to match three of the same color to make them disappear!
Company: Atari
Year: 1990
Genre: Puzzle
Profile:Link
Mode of playing: Easy mode or Normal mode. This competition will end Monday, March 31st at noon Pacific.
Highscore table
PS: I got a highscore of 584,020. Not that great, really, I died at level 7. I have made a pic with my phone, but I can't upload it to my computer because it seems the device I use is not working properly.
-
May I suggest something? You should add some images, tips and such at the topics, it would attract more people to participate into it (something like they do in the Atari 2600 board).
-
Even though I have a soft spot for River City Ransom, I consider SOR2 the best beat'em-up ever.
-
Same here. Only if its a game I really like I will use emulation.
BTW, everybody knows the Lynx forum is pretty slow, so I wouldn't be surprised if most of the games don't get more than 10 submissions. Still, I think it's worth it.
-
The only game I have from those is Klax, so I'll vote for it. At this rate, I don't think I'll participate until week 6 or 7.
-
Bumping after 4 months for new people to vote. This is still being updated!
-
A high score thread and I missed it?
Can you play it on emulator? I prefer to play on the original system, but if it's a game I truly like I'll have to settle for it.
May I suggest that we split California Games in two weeks (with 2 of the events every week? ). One week could be BMX and Surfing, and the other one could be Half-pipe and Footbag.
-
I would participate in every game I can. The only system I like getting highscores on is the Lynx

I'm a very lucky man. After thinking for a while, I decided to get a sealed Gates of Zendocon, instead of the Lynx bag. Hey, there will be more chances to get it. I didn't know my words would soon come true...
So soon, that this morning, my gf has bought me this!
http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...:EOIBSA:ES:1123
And a lot cheaper than the other one, and a lot less than what usually goes for (30€ or so).
-
Nobody knows it? I want to know how many games can hold and if it's worth it. Does it really hold 24 games?? Sorry, but I need a fast answer. Thanks

How many Lynx games can you put into this bag? I'm considering getting it, but only if you can put about 6-8 games into it.
-
I can get Hard Drivin, sealed, for 15$. Should I get it? I know it's a pretty bad game, but it seems to be pretty rare.
-
Mmm. I'll surely get all of them sometime, but the decission is which ones I'll get first. This is what I think of them:
-Gates of Zendocon (last Epyx game I don't have, some people have found it easy and boring).
-Malibu Bikini Volleyball (Seems pretty good, but very hard)
-Robotron: 2084 (never played, but if it's like I think it is, a very intense game that makes you be in edge, I'm sold)
-Hydra (seems like Stun Runner, and I loved that one).
-Crystal Mines 2 (a faster paced Chip's Challenge, which I loved)
-
How are Robotron and MBV? I've never played them.
-
I finally purchased Awesome Golf. Good thing is, I've received some unexpected money, so I'm going to buy 2 more games. From the games the seller have, these are the ones I'm most interested in:
-Gates of Zendocon
-Hydra
-Crystal Mines 2
-Malibu Bikini Volleyball
-Robotron 2084
Which 2 are the best ones? I need some help, as it's really hard for me to decide (as you might know
) -
I'm going to buy some games (one of them will be Shanghai, at last!). I have one last spot for a game, and I'm having a hard time deciding between Awesome Golf or Gates of Zendocon (How surprising!
). Both are unopened, btw.Which one should I buy?
-
Ok, updated, and a little bump for those who still haven't voted. I'm still updating this, and will continue to do it.
Total of people who have voted: 14
Games most people have voted for: Klax (9), Chip's Challenge (
, Stun Runner and Shanghai (7), California Games, Todd's Adventures in Slime World and Xybots (6)Games with more points/user (at least 3 votes):
Todd's Adventures in Slime World- 8,83
Warbirds- 8,66
Lemmings-8
Chip's Challenge- 7,625
Blue Lightning- 7,3
-There are only 4 games that have received 2 first place votes (Chip's Challenge, Lemmings, Rygar and Todd's Adventures in Slime World)
-Only one game has received 3 votes on the same position (Chip's Challenge, with 3 2nd place votes). Aside from that, only 2 games have received 2 second place votes (Klax and Todd's Adventures in Slime World).
-As for third place votes, only two games have received 2 votes: Blue Lightning and Warbirds
-Only 3 games have received votes in first, second and third place: Chip's Challenge, Stun Runner and Todd's Adventures in Slime World.
-
Do you remember when I said a 30,000 score was possible in the Half-Pipe game in California Games?

Well, I fell short when I said that

And that's not all. I managed to score more than 32,000 points once, but I stupidly erased the photographic proof, and I doubt I could ever do it again

-
I' ll update the first page when the main list is updated, too.
-
I agree with some of your picks. But I disagree on a few.first. In 1990, you put the best game that came out was Tods adventures in Slime World.... I would definitely put Roadblasters ahead of that.
I would put Desert Strike and Lemmings as a tie for 1993. Both games are awesome, and I am trying to aquire both for my collection.
*Oh and btw, what did you use for your source on release dates? Some release dates are confusing. Like Warbirds for example, it says Copyright 1990 when you start it up, but the label says 1991. Same with Steel Talons (1990 vs 1992?)
I'd say Lemmings is quite a bit better than Desert Strike, that's why I've put it as the best 1993 game. I don't remember which source I used, but it was probably Atariage.
I don't really care for Slime World myself, so there's no way I'd say it beats KLAX or Shanghai. There's quite a bit of controversy this year, huh? I'll add Roadblasters as an honorable mention, and of course, I' ll change games if more opinions are added to the thread.
-
Yes, it is a different take on in a topic I did a while ago (Link for those who are interested). That time, I asked which one was overall, the best year for the Lynx by looking at game releases.
Now, I ask which do you think was the bests games released in every year the Lynx was being marketed (just for fun, I'll add some honorable mentions in Italics):
1989
Blue Lightning
California Games
Chip´s Challenge
Electrocop
Gates of Zendocon
Gauntlet 3
A VERY hard year to decide which were the best games. I think California Games is the best overall, but Chip's Challenge is not far behind. From the other 4, I think Blue Lighting is great as well.
1990
APB
Block Out
Crystal Mines 2
Klax
NFL Football
Ms. Pac-Man
Ninja Gaiden
Paperboy
Roadblasters
Robosquash
Rygar
Shangai
Tods adventures in Slime World
Toki
Warbirds
Xenophobe
Zarlor Mercenary
This year is even harder. I think Slime World is a masterpiece, but so are Shanghai, Warbirds and Klax. And just a step below are good games like Zarlor Mercenary, Xenophobe, Toki, Paperboy...
1991
Awesome Golf
Baseball Heroes
Bill and Ted´s Excelent
Checkered Flag
Dracula
Fidelity Ultimate Chess
Ishido
Pac-Land
Qix
Rampage
Rampart
Robotron 2084
Scrapyard Dog
Steel Talons
S.T.U.N Runner
Super Skweek
Tournament Cyberball 2072
Turbo Sub
Viking Child
Xybots
I think S.T.U.N Runner is more impressive overall, but Rampart is one of the best Lynx games as well. There are lots of "not-quite-must-haves" this year too: Scrapyard Dog, Qix, Rampage, Xybots, Awesome Golf...
1992
Basketbrawl
Batman Returns
Dynolimpics
Dirty larry
Hockey
Hydra
Kung Food
Lynx Casino
Pinball Jam
Pit Fighter
Power Factor
Shadow of the Beast
Switchblade 2
World Class Soccer
Probably the worst year for the Lynx. Only SOTB is outstanding, while most of the other games range from good to horrible.
1993
Batllewheels
Desert Strike
Double Dragon
European Soccer
Gordo 106
Hard Drivin
Jimmy Connors Tennis
Joust
Lemmings
Malibu Bikini Volleyball
Ninja Gaiden 3
Super Off Road
1994
Battlezone 2000
Super Asteroids and Missile Command
Do you agree with my choices?
-
When do you think it will be finished? What will be the approximate price for it? Will you ship to Europe?
I want answers answers answers!!!!

Is that a Lynx flashcart?

I'll repeat because nobody noticed it:
" I got a highscore of 584,020. Not that great, really, I died at level 7. I have made a pic with my phone, but I can't upload it to my computer because it seems the device I use is not working properly."
