I was refering to prices nowdays. Excluding new games (that go for about 40$ at retail I think). I'm curious because I'm always hearing different things (Scrapyard Dog for example, I've heard it goes for about 15$ because is sought after for Lynx collectors)
-
Outside of the protos and such, the only game that is really expensive is Lemmings. What are other games that cost more than the average, common cart?
-
California Games is probably the most popular Lynx game and its short events make it perfect for trying to get highscores, but I agree with you. BTW, you forgot about my Slime World highscore!
-
I know the Lynx forum is a bit slow, but still, the highscore thread doesn't get too many posts (or new scores). Having mainly arcade games, the Lynx is just perfect for high score competitions. In my oppinion, while the post is a sticky (as it should be
), you just don't notice it after some time entering the forum (this happens with EVERY forum). This is a little "remember" note to all those looking for some old school high score contests.

Let's see:
Dreamcast
-Crazy Taxi (3 or 5 minutes run)
-Powerstone 2 (a single round lasts about 4-5 minutes)
-Virtua Tennis 1 or 2 (You could play 2 exhibition matches in 5 minutes)
-Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (Runs last 2 minuts, so you could play 2 different ones)
-Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (2 Sonic/Shadow stages should last you the desired time)
-Mr Driller
Game boy Advance
-Warioware Inc or Twisted (lots of variety)
-Gunstar Future Heroes or Astroboy for the GBA (stages last about 3-4 minutes)
-Dr Mario & Puzzle League
-Metal Slug Advance (similar to GFH and AB)
-River City Ransom EX (just play, get some money, and then save your character)
-Mario Power Tennis
Atari Lynx
-California Games (4 games inside that last each about 1:30, you could play 3 of them in 5 minutes)
-Blue Lightning (one stage lasts about 5 minutes)
NDS
-Zookeeper (There's a mode that let's you play during 6 minutes)
-Mario Kart DS (a couple races )
-Meteos
-Trauma Center (a single operation)
-Ouendan (every song lasts about 2:34, so you could squeeze 2 songs in 5 minutes)
-Cooking Mama (a couple recipes)

Another new record! It has taken me 2 hours of intensive playing, but I've done it! I think 30,000 it's possible, but the run has to be damn near perfect and you have to get 999 on almost every turn.

That makes my 5 best scores:
28746
28595
28366
28196
28086
PS: Yes, I've broken the 29,000 barrier a couple times. I' ll post the photo later :-)
There you have it, my high score for the 1# Adventure in Todd's Adventures in Slime World. Even though I knew most of its secrets, it has taken me an entire hour to get through. If there are so many secrets on the first screen, I can't even imagine how much there would be in the other scenarios (The first one is called the "Easy" adventure!)

If you want 3-D platformers, you should get a N64. If you like 2-D fighters, you should get a Dreamcast. But what about the Lynx? What type of people would you recommend the Lynx to?
I'd recommend it to people that like fast paced arcade-style games (Blue Lightning, Stun Runner, California Games) and, surpisingly, fans of puzzle games. The Lynx has a pretty strong puzzle line-up with amazing games like Chip's Challenge, Klax, Shanghai, Super Skweek, Ishido...

I bought the game 10 days ago and didn't even know how to play it. Now, it's probably my favourite event!
-

My high score. Not bad, considering I learned to play just 4-5 days ago :-)
-
Being one of the best, and most popular Lynx titles, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a thread about it. It won't get much traffic, but it sure will be interesting to hear what people have to say about the game.
At first I thought in creating this for hearing tips when playing the game and get high scores, and know how people would rank the games (from best to worst), but you can throw everything here, really (reviews, or your first experiences with the game, for example.
I can't give any tips because I'm fairly new to the game, but I' ll rank the games:
1-Surfing (Most fun event from me, and the easiest to play)
2-BMX (Pretty close to the first one, only its difficulty keeps it from being #1)
3-Half-Pipe (I've just learned how to play it correctly, so it might get ranked higher soon)
4-Footbag (the only event I don't find too fun to play)
So, for me:
Surfing>BMX>>>Half-Pipe>>>>Footbag

Thanks for the answers. Now, I can play it normally. I've just gotten about 16,000 points.
-
I did a thread exactly like this one a bit ago
-
I'm definitely going to submit some scores these days. I can beat the one in Slime World easily.
-
Just for curiosity, these would be the list if we were doing a top 10 list...
California games- 31
Slime World- 29
Blue Lightning- 26
Chip's Challenge- 24
Gates of Zendocon- 20
Zarlor Mercenary- 20
Electrocop- 18
Gauntlet: the Third Encounter- 12
No, this is not a top list, but we can know some interesting things this way. It seems that Gauntlet is considered the "worst" Epyx game, because it's the last one in 3 people's list. Aside from that, and as usual, there's a lot of variety in opinions. There hasn't been a game that has ranked 4# or higher on every list
-
I've tried that lots of times, but it doesn't seem to work at all. Do you have to turn every time you go up the ramp and down?
-
Good to see another Slime World fan! I think that the California Games on the Lynx is tied with the Sega Master System for the best version of the game. That one has the 6 events (I think), and is as addictive as this one.
-
I bought CG without manual, and I don't know how to play the skateboarding game. I've read the Html manual here at Atariage, but I can't seem to get any speed and can't even jump off the ramp. I'm starting to get a bit angry....
-
They were not only the Lynx designers, but one of the best developers as well (most will say they were the best
). How would you rank their games? My list would be like this:
1-Todd's Adventures in Slime World (there is so much cramed inside it's just amazing)
2-Chip's Challenge (Very well designed, and easy and addictive to play)
3-California Games (Great version of the game, with all of the events fun to play and great graphics/sound)
4-Blue Lightning
5-Gates of Zendocon (a bit easy, but the gates system adds lots of replay value. Great music too!)
6-Electrocop (impressive technically speaking, but a bit cumbersome gameplay)
7-Zarlor Mercenary (not a big fan of this one)
8-Gauntlet the Third Encounter (not bad, but it's the worst of them all)
-
Lynx fans say that most of the Lynx's library is good, and I'm not going to disagree. There are a few stinkers, but most games range from mediocre to great. Of course, there are some games that get a lot of love, but do you think it is totally undeserved. Which games do you think people overrate?
-
There are some games on the Lynx library that are loved by everyone (Klax, Chip's Challenge, Rampart...), and some that are hated as well (World Class Soccer, Basketbrawl, Hard Drivin).
Then, there are the "love or hate" games. Those games that people either find fantastic, or just plain bad. I'm curious about your opinion on them. Some of them are:
-APB
-Batman Returns (high production values, but mediocre gameplay make it a perfect game of this type)
-Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
-Electrocop (just like Batman)
-Gauntlet: the Third Encounter
-Scrapyard Dog (this is more a game no one ever talks about)
-
I've seen them on the rarity guide, but as I live in Europe, most games change its rarity. It's the first time I've seen Scrapyard Dog, for example. Rampage is a 5, Electrocop, ridged cart is a 6, Batman and Scrapyard are a 2.
-
I´ll update with that list, then

Chip's Challenge is still first, with Klax close to it. Slime World, Stun Runner and Shanghai are almost tied in third place, and there's only 17 points between the first and the fifth!

I have all of my Lynx games complete (Klax, Chip's Challenge, Slime World, Stun Runner and Pac-Land). Now, I´ve bought Blue Lighting complete too, and California Games cart only, because I know it's pretty hard to find the box. I'm thinking in buying a third game (between Batman Returns, Rampage or Scrapyard Dog), but they're not complete.
-
I've bought a Blue Lightning complete, like new, for 10€. The guy has lots of other games, but they are cart only. I normally only collect complete games, but I´m aware that Lynx games are pretty hard to come by, and I might not see them again in a long time. Some of the games are pretty rare (Scrapyard Dog, Electrocop ridged cart, Rampage), but I seriously do not know what to do.
Do you buy your games complete or not?

Priciest Lynx games?

Isn't your avatar from one of the cards of Magic: the Gathering? Also, is Xenophobe pricey too?
