Will Anybody Be Buying The Retro VGS?
Mystblade replied to fdurso224's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The RetroVGS is a good idea, just executed poorly. They are taking too much of the past and bringing it into today's world. I love the idea of no internet connection, I don't love the longevity of that. I say that because most if not all games are going to be coded by indie developers, not saying their games can't come out without "game breaking bugs" however, most if not all indie game developers get alpha and beta testing done by the masses meaning (You and me) and we most of the time "Pay" for that privilege so we can get an early taste of a game. Without internet it's going to take a lot longer, cost more money to produce a game, meaning the cost will be passed on to....yes you guessed it you and me. No one in their right mind will ever code a game exclusively for the RetroVGS, now when they can dump their "unfinished" game on steam get an early access tag, and take profits from those sales and improve the game and finish it. If the price point was lets say 100 bucks for the console, I would be jumping on it just because. However at 300 entry not to mention what it will cost at full retail. That is insane pricing, when current gen consoles go for almost that. No working prototype, meaning all footage of the games were taking either on another console or a PC, so we have no clue on how this hardware will run those games, I don't want to get into the 60 FPS thing but it has to be brought up, am I going to get a bad performance out of this? The only thing going for this is that it does have fix funding, meaning go ahead and back it because it's not going to get funded at 2 million. I think the idea was great, the entire reason companies got away from carts were A) the cost and B) the amount of data you can store, with some other stuff I am sure. But by doing this you are basically going to have to charge twice as much for the same exact game, it will be a very costly system to play on let alone content. The great thing about indie games it that a lot of the time they release content for cheap or free for the game you bought, if you bought the RetroVGS version, sorry you can't get it.
