  1. On this front, I have to give a lot of credit for the guy who found the SNES Playstation prototype. He chose not to sell it so he could still go around to events with it, and he allowed a few people to analyze it and basically document it for all to share. If only more collectors did this with their precious rare gems, I think the community might be more sympathetic to them when something goes south.
  2. Wow this is amazing... I was a huge fan of ACS on Apple II but never found another person with it around me. It remember it was really easy to use and loved Aventuria. I also remember all the auto generated quests were more or oess the samw, but it was neat to do some rooms and let ACS "finish" the game for you. Modern day equivalent would be something like RPG Maker, I guess, but it lacks the simplicity of ACK. I don't think anybody tried to remake it, I suppose the Amiga version is as good as it gets.
  3. I used to make Flash games... it was a neat little tech that reminded me of Hypercard in terms of ease of use. It's actually harder, but it did hit that sweet spot for me between ease of development and distribution (Newgrounds, Kongregate) vs. the learning curve.
  4. Agreed, this feels like the emulation version of the boy who owns the ball we play with, and who wants to be able to take it and go home if the others don't do what he wants. I think that's the only thing that was really stolen here (if the story is true) and while it's not entirely right, I find it hard to sympathize with the "victim" as a result. That said, a story like this will make him more likely to be remembered, after all. We are storytelling apes, suckers for a good story.
  5. When I see this it makes me think of the Skyrim meme whereby the player does all kind of random things, but meanwhile the Draugr are training... https://m.imgur.com/gallery/8M1cj3Q While Polymega/Retroblox are meeting random people in hotel rooms, the FPGAs are developing...
  6. Arcade Cab Guy probably paid a small fortune, and probably justified it to himself by the fact that he would be the gateway to playing this super rare game. That's pretty much the only thing that was really "stolen" in my view. The cab is still rare and a special item, and it is undamaged.
  7. This is a great idea, although I wonder if some platforms will struggle more at some kind of games / features. But still, targeting multiple platforms for some types of games would be really neat.
  8. Oh wow this is great... it gives a behind the scenes look at these games!
  9. Great news on the HDMI front, there is now a zero latency mode: https://www.retrorgb.com/mister-hdmi-core-now-sub-1-frame-of-lag.html
  10. Yes... I was expecting a kind of replica of an arcade control panel, not this weird thing.
  11. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap (mentioned around the middle) is IMHO a fantastic example on how to modernize an old game. Not only they reused the original source code, but you can switch between the original and remastered graphics and music at any time, and even separately in any combination. It also allows you to generate a passcode so you can use your "save" with the original game, on top of being able to accept original passcodes as well. It was a true work of love; the main coder, Omar Cornut, wrote one of the major SMS emulators and this was his favorite game. I suppose that talent like that is hard to find for every single game, though...
  12. I expect shovelware to disappear, and it won't be possible to have complete collections. That is not a bad thing. Truly iconic games will probably remain around thanks to efforts of peg legged individuals on black flagged marine vessels.
  13. I had some kind of Pong paddles that connected to the TV in the early 80s, thought I don't remember when it was bought. It had 4 or 5 games on it including one-player "squash" against a wall. It had no brand but it was a couple of rectangular paddles which connected to the TV via RF. Like an early version of those TV-only game devices with retro games. Along the same time I had that brown Mattel Soccer handheld. My first console and portabke gaming systems I still have both but they aren't working, sadly. Still cool gadgets to have on the shelf.
  14. Is this the Oddisey 1 or 2? I thought the 1 had everything baked in the circuit and the "games" are just jumpers inside a card. That must limit what one can do with the system.
  15. Anybody who wants more cores, just get a MiSTer. There is no competition on the number of cores it can run. I know Kevtris' cores are excellent, but if you want more systems at no extra cost there are other platforms where that is provided willingly. Disclaimer: if you feel burned by the lack of cores, I bought an original NT... same price as the NT mini, but no cores. At least you paid less for your system
  16. How do you switch between cores? Is it just a menu option? Or do you need to reset and choose one at startup? Just curious on how the experience feels compared to other FPGA devices. I didn't feel the need to JB my Super NT since I have an SD2SNES, but may do it if/when I get a Mega Sg.
  17. I see these which are on the 150 bucks range for 720p: Salange T23K Mini LED Projector 2400 Lumens 1280*720 Video Beamer HDMI VGA USB Home Theater Option Android 7.1 and T22 Proyector https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/b2jBbA6y There is no mention of lag whatsoever so hard to get an idea of performance.
  18. The problem with using a 32X with the DAC is that it would only work with RGB or compoaite output, losing one of the main advantages of the Sg. I suppose Analogue could come up with their own version of the 32X in HDMI... but is there a market for such a device? I can't see it costing less than 100 or 150 bucks.
  19. Has anybody tried one of the smaller newer HDMI projectors? It's tempting to get one to project on the ceiling (lazy bedroom gaming! haha) but I am concerned about the lag it may have.
  20. It already exists: MiST already has both Genesis and PC Engine working good, although the FPGA is not large enough for the SNES core. I'm pretty sure somebody will eventually try a "MiST 2" whereby it's all one packaged product in a box, but I don't expect it to be cheap given the high cost of spare (non subsidized) FPGA chips. Whoever brings it out will have competition of people buying a MiSTer instead.
  21. There are many inexpensive FPGA boards popular for retro systems (e.g. MiSTer, MiST, ZxUno, etc). Are you considering creating a core for an FPGA system?
  22. I can see a cheap flat monthly fee gaming service as the future, and I'd expect other major players like Steam to start offering alternatives if it catches on. But streaming seems dubious. I can see benefits of a hybrid approach where you could see screens of other people without taxing your GPU (say a 4 player Mario Kart where your PC/console only renders 25% of it), but I am not convinced dabbling with the tech at home (streaming my PC over an NVidia shield via 5Ghz wifi). It was plenty playable, but the compression artifacts were noticeable and bothered me.
