  1. I liked it. Sure, it's in demo mode, but it's more the idea that it represents within the space of 2 seconds. And at least they were actually holding NES controllers! Usually when "video games" are presented on TV you'll see two people on a couch: one will have a PS2 controller, the other has an Xbox 360 controller, and you hear Space Invaders sound effects.
  2. These videos are kind of annoying. The kids know they're being subjected to something that they probably won't like, so they already have a torturous attitude from the start. They know they're being filmed for reactions, which means they're gonna "play to the cameras". A couple months ago, I brought an Atari 2600 with Kaboom over to a friends for his kid's birthday party. You might be surprised how excited and entertained kids in the modern age can still be with these old games. We set it up, played for 5 minutes with them watching, and then before you know it they're having fun and boasting about beating each other's high scores. A positive environment makes a big difference in how they'll perceive something. Remember the excitement from the arcades when we were kids? We could see other people having so much fun, and it was something we wanted to experience too. Instead these videos present older tech as a sort of impending boogeyman, focusing almost entirely on the outdated aspects.
  3. Aww, sacrificing original Neo sticks for this project is a shame. Neo Geo X controllers are still available, as are the many other replicas made for PS2, PS3, and the Wii. Modding arcade sticks made by MAS would be a much more sensible choice. They used wood panels and buttons exactly like those found in arcade cabs. Add a keypad and some 80's designs and you're set.
  4. I looked inside the Player 1 controller port, and all 9 pins are there and look seemingly normal. Are there any physical signs I should look for?
  5. Hey guys, I need you! For some reason, my CV isn't reading input from controllers correctly. Everything worked fine very recently, but now, after setting it up for a play session, the controllers suddenly aren't responding correctly. The asterisk and many other keys don't respond. The problem is identical across all 3 controllers I've tried it with. I've hooked the system up in two different rooms, suspecting a possible voltage issue, but the effect is the same. Resetting doesn't fix it either. Have you seen this problem before?
  6. Tough to list only 3, but I'll go with: 1. Frogger 2. Pepper II 3. Venture Sammy Lightfoot should get a special mention too. I guess it's not that great of a game, but it's one that I grew up with and enjoyed. Nothing was funnier than that spinning hairdo back then.
  7. Here's a short video that shows it a little better. trim.943663FE-AD47-474E-9609-49A8334E1A28.MOV
  8. The noise shows up as a wavy instability in areas of solid color, especially blues. Look at the areas between the logs. Instead of solid blue, there's a noisy instability in the colors. It spills out into the areas of green on the sides too. I tried adjusting the middle pot, but it didn't seem to have an effect. Would the other pots do something maybe?
  9. 250k for an iOS app seems pretty outrageous. That, and touchscreen controls are just abysmal for games like these. Legit or not, the final product wouldn't have been worth it.
  10. I just got my console back from a guy who installed the mod for me. The sharpness is great. I'm running it through an XRGB upscaler, and I also get the bluish blacks. That part doesn't bother me too much, but there's also a lot of noise in the image. It's especially visible in the darker areas of color. Is there an easy way to fix this? I've tried on 2 TVs so far, with and without the XRGB, and it gives the same effect.
  11. For anyone out there who thinks this, please consider getting an XRGB-mini Framemeister. It's an upscaler with ports for almost everything (composite, S-video, component, scart RGB, HDMI... but not RF). If you have an LCD HDTV and enjoy old games, you've gotta get one of these. Perfect, sharp pixels. Using component video, this new Colecovision board would look absolutely perfect on any HDTV.
  12. They must be pretty rare, I haven't seen one come up on eBay in at least 4 months or so.
  13. I'd be interested in a device like this too. A small keypad with ports for NES, SNES or Genesis controllers would be an amazing solution if it existed.
  14. Sign me up for one, I definitely need it! I have no experience with electronics installation and soldering though. Would you be willing to have me send you my console for the upgrade?
  15. These are going to be amazing, I can't wait!
  16. Gotta agree with Frogger II: Threedeep How could a game go so horribly wrong? The first game was awesome, all they had to do was copy it and add some tiny tweaks. Maybe a mode where you become the hungry snake chasing after the frogs, and the more you eat, the longer you become, making it harder to avoid being run over by a car. Or maybe where you play as a worker who has to control traffic and flood gates in order to ensure a frog passes through safely. But nooo... we got clumsy multi-screen flying and no catchy tunes.
  17. I love rogue-like games. This would be great to see on Colecovision!
  18. I remember something about the older disk formats not being able to handle files with longer name lengths. If you're using HFS, maybe that could be the problem. Try shortening the file name to something really simple? Zip disks are what I usually use for this type of thing too. Someday I'd like to revive my old Performa and set up a retro gaming Mac.
  19. If you have any doubt whether or not you should keep your Colecovision, play Frogger. You'll know what to do.
  20. I hope this thread doesn't mean our hopes of getting a second wave of arcade controllers next year are squashed!
  21. I appreciate that this WASN'T handled privately through PMs.
  22. Me too! I can't wait to see what these look like. As far as I can tell, based on the waiting list in this thread, they might all be spoken for now if everybody who expressed interest buys one. 1. misspent_youth 2. toymailman 3. Zenimus 4. twoquickcapri 5. sqoon 6. HDTV1080P 7. san-d-2000 8. HARMIK 9. cimerians 10. pcefan Of course, this is just my unofficial list from this thread and Harvey may have gotten PM's from others as well.
  23. For the price it's going for, I wouldn't do it. The tiny upgrade in visuals isn't worth the tradeoff for significantly worse music and sound. You'll be disappointed. But... the SNES did have it. The original character designs were created by Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball. That's why they look so similar. Same artist = same art style. Also, grab a copy of Wild Guns if you can. It's an obscure cross between Sunset Riders and NAM 1975. Incredibly fun!
