  1. Finally showed Raiden. The district manager of the store (Game Over) wanted to play that one since he has played other Raiden versions. He said he liked it, but while that was a top contender in his option the Turbo Graphics 16 version he liked more.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I have the TG16 version coming in the mail, so I'm looking forward to a direct comparison. Haven't played the TG16 version in a LONG time to make a side-by-side comparison.

  2. Inflated cart prices are what drove me out of collecting for the NES/SNES.

Ugh, I'm about 100 games into my Turbografx 16/CD collection and about everything remaining is either $100+ or just impossible to find in almost any form (Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Legend of Hero Tonma). I still have plenty of cheap NES games I can grab here and there, but the library is about six times larger, so that's no surprise.

  3.

Right, so Rolling Thunder and Xevious. Got it :)

Holy crap, Rolling Thunder was one of my arcade favorites as a kid! I'd totally be on board for one of those.

And yes, add me to the fictional Xevious pre-order list as well.

  4. Wanted to contribute to the AvP podcast, but I've found in my old age I am incapable of playing a lot of early first person shooters because they give me motion sickness. This pretty much means Doom, Wolfenstein, AvP, Marathon, Medal of Honor, and the like are all off the table these days. However, looking forward to getting a few hours in on T2K.

  5. Far before trying to enter in the Guiness Book, simply having tons of fun at 2, 3 or 4 players with a Bomberman would be cool on the Jag

Intriguing idea. I know there's a mini golf game on the Lynx, but it's next to impossible to find a copy.

  6. You know what the meter for great jag game vs bad jag game is a diffrent meter than most systems bubsy 3d would be one of 5 platforms on the Jag and the only other 3d platform er outside of highlander...and it was better than highlander.

I would say if ported it could sell as good as another world.

But if I was going to pick a sega/SNES/ATARI ST GAME to port...I would want either ultimate mortal kombat or zombies ate my neighbors.

Props for ZAMN! Didn't own a lot of SNES games, but that was one I cherished back in the day.

  7. I assume a more boxy tomb raider could of been made...bubsy. 3d probably. even virtua fighter and vr racer...for the Jag cd

Why in the name of all that is holy would anybody want Bubsy 3D ported? Almost every "Worst Video Games Ever" list I've ever seen has that monstrosity on it.

  8. Yeah the cd unit was not like the 32x for the genesis where it gave the system bettrr capabilities basically the cd could make bigger games more megs cheaper on a cd also you could have better music and video.

Otherwise most games would look similar to what you where getting on the regular jag.

    Say again?

  9. Just played this on my arcade machine! Always liked the multi-dimensional aspect requiring use of bombs to attack ground targets (something lost in Raiden). Look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Yes, that was always one of its problems. It had little software to show why its 64-bitness was superior to the two dominant 16-bit systems in the twilights of their primes. As was previously stated, Atari simply didn't have the resources at that point to compete on equal footing.

I imagine in my mind's eye people playing 16-player Marathon: Durendal on four linked Jaguars. Baby Halo.

To save you the trouble of reading the other topics that thoroughly dissect this idea, no, there is no hidden power in the Jaguar, no it's not capable of anything close to Mario 64 or Goldeneye levels of 3D, etc. If it was programmed well, likely the best 3D-like game it could probably pull off would be something like the 3DO version of Alone in the Dark, with simple polygons and pre-rendered backgrounds. In other words, a properly programmed version of the otherwise atrocious Highlander for Jaguar CD. 3D with any type of texturing was not a strong suit for the Jaguar. Even though it was never designed to pull off the type of 3D found in later systems (or even the 3DO), it could definitely have been pushed better in many of the other areas that it was designed for.

I dunno, I would have thought it might be able to handle something at least close to one of those games, but I'll trust you when you say it was out of reach. Still, I do believe a lack of innovation that would help separate it from the existing systems really made it a difficult sell from the start.
