  1. Didn't even know about this. Should I even bother trying to get in on this now?
  2. I think it was used on a recent episode of We Bare Bears.
  3. The 3DO was a decent enough idea, but nobody knew whether it would work or not because the concept of a multimedia game system was very advanced for the time, and it was offering a lot of capabilities within one machine. I think it was the price that threw people off more than anything else, as that was a LOT of money. I find it amusing that its reputation has actually been pretty good in retrospect.
  4. I saw one on eBay where the rotary control was below the D-pad. Wasn't sure if this was a good version or not.
  5. I saw Jaguar ads, but they always trumpeted the system's capabilities while not backing it up with anything truly tangible. Put a screen shot of Cybermorph next to one of Starfox or Fight For Life next to Street Fighter II, and I don't think the average consumer is seeing double the value. Add to that the lack of critically acclaimed titles outside of Tempest 2K and they really didn't have a lot to work with to get people excited to buy one. Yes, there were some solid games, but the system needed a smash hit to really bring in players and never got it. If the SNES was working with a library of games of which Ultraman, Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball, Mystic Quest, and Populous were some of the more prominent titles, it would have flopped. Instead, it gave us DOZENS of iconic games like Super Mario World, Street Fighter II (which single-handedly made it the system to have for a while), Final Fantasy II and III, F-Zero, Act Raiser, Secret of Mana, Contra III, and innumerable other must-have titles. When it comes down to it, maybe two or three titles for the Jaguar rise to that level.
  6. SNES had about 800+ titles, similar with the Genesis. Hence, 10% was a pretty close estimate if you include the Jag CD games.
  7. The CD-i and 3DO were multimedia systems with far more capabilities than a Jaguar, and they failed pretty miserably too (moreso the CD-i). The Neo-Geo was always a niche system with limited distribution, so not a great comp there. The Jaguar was supposed to go head-to-head with the big boys (SNES and Genesis) and it got pantsed because of its price, which might have even been justifiable but only with a much better games library.
  8. Online Jaguar play would be pretty cool, but I don't see that happening unless there's an emulator that can manage it.
  9. Sorry, still new to the forum, so not familiar with any lingering dramas from the days of yore. I'll move on to the next thread.
  10. Nice service offered! Hope I don't need it any time soon, but do you have a thread up for that Doom 3/3rd Doom/whatever for the Jag CD? That looks sweet, and I want it when it's ready! And I'm a fan of free stuff!
  11. I didn't even know these existed! I'm gonna have to grab one just for Tempest 2K!
  12. What'd yours run you? My wife paid a pretty penny to grab me a JCD CIB.
  13. How was the Jaguar affordable? It cost twice as much as the Genesis and SNES, and had about 10% the game library to choose from. And yes, if Nintendo and Sega were paying for ad space in EGM, of course they're going to get more pub. Atari didn't much advertise the Jaguar at all, which is nobody's fault but their own. Obviously I love the Jaguar, or else I wouldn't be on this board, but I don't have a romantic notion about it being unjustly kicked to the curb by the industry in general. Atari largely dug their own grave, and of the entire cartridge library there's maybe a dozen games that a kid in the mid-90s would have been excited to have. Yes, it could have been much more than it was, but that's not on Nintendo or Sega.
  14. Everything I'd heard about RetroVGS to this point is a mess. They're trying to raise millions for something with no demo and it shouldn't cost them millions to make these things, at least not initially. It was exciting at first but I don't see them raising that money nor getting a working demo any time soon. Maybe they'll prove me wrong and it will turn out to be an awesome new retro system, but I'm not holding my breath.
  15. Love those little inside stories around small additions to games that give them character beyond the game itself.
  16. They were lukewarm on AvP, but they didn't discount it completely IIRC. I remember they mostly ignored Jaguar releases, so I don't remember a ton of reviews for Jaguar games, which might have been a good thing given how many of them were really bad.
  17. If you're going to get one, now's the time. They're becoming more expensive every year and they have durability issues, so I'd expect the number of operational models to dwindle with time.
  18. The most important thing is you are happy with the purchase; there's no point worrying over whether you paid too much. Could you have gotten all that a little cheaper? Maybe, but you certainly weren't hosed in the deal. I bought my system CIB with a dozen games CIB three years ago for about $140, and that would be a STEAL these days. I was happy with the deal then, which was roughly the going rate, but in hindsight I'm ecstatic with it, and I hope you'll feel the same three years from now. Anyhow, if you're intent on really playing these games, I would recommend staying away from Trevor McFur and Kasumi Ninja...they're both common and pretty awful. AVP is a polarizing game, but kind of a Jaguar staple. If you like shooters, I'd recommend giving Raiden a look: not too expensive and a decent port of a classic shmup. Iron Soldier 2 and Rayman are good, but you'll pay three or four times more to acquire them. Happy hunting!
  19. This. I got one sealed when I bought a games lot, and I've had zero happen that would compel me to open it. It has limited utility even before considering there's rarely enough Jaguars in close proximity to make use of it.
  20. I think that's The Brown "Note". Still, well played.
  21. I think the Rayman bubble burst. Saw one CIB listed for $200 on eBay, didn't sell, got relisted at $150, not sure it will sell at that even. They're out there, and the supply is starting to outstrip the demand. I think they got a bit of a boost since a YouTube video outed it as the original game from which other versions were ported.
  22. Oh hell no! If it's going for $1200 today, it will go for a lot more than that in a decade! That's the one you sell for your retirement!
