People get pretty silly for sealed video games and accessories.

I have the Lynx 2 in box. I use the SNES/N64 protectors for the Jaguar cartridge games I have CIB, but yes, a protector for the Jaguar console and Jaguar CD peripheral would be great. Especially the latter, given its value on the current market.

Could the Jag Do Decent Ports of NeoGeo and CPS-2
Trooper Galactus replied to christo930's topic in Atari Jaguar
Yeah, I know the bit wars were all hype, but that doesn't mean programmers weren't deliberately avoiding using the Jag's full processing power. And yeah, lots of games could use the Motorola 68000 processor and make stuff look good (if they bothered) because it was a mature technology and there was a much greater degree of familiarity with it. Just like late-release NES, SNES, and Genesis titles, there was a much greater understanding of how to use it to its full potential so the results could look like a generational leap. It's too bad the Jag's tech took so long to fully mature, because as we've seen, it was VERY capable once all the kinks were worked out. I would agree with you about there being something of a generational gap in quality, to a certain extent. I've been collecting heavily for the Sega Saturn in the last month or two, and one thing I've learned is that while the overall libraries for that generation didn't necessarily age well (I mean, I loved RE on the PS1 but wouldn't bother playing it in its original format today), those systems have a lot of excellent titles that didn't try to do too much with new technologies. Yeah, there are some iconic titles in the 32/64-bit era, but the blocky graphics (and sometimes the gameplay) don't hold up especially well. But quite a few 2D games played exceptionally well as generational leaps over their forebears. Clockwork Knight 1 & 2 and Astal are two good examples on the Saturn. -

I'm not very tech savvy, but wasn't part of the issue with the Jaguar library that they were created to use a redundant 16-bit processor due to ease of programming rather than going through the pain in the butt of unlocking the full potential of the twin 32-bit Tom and Jerry processors? It's not that the Jaguar wasn't capable of looking/playing a whole lot better than its 16-bit competitors, it's just that nobody wanted to put in the effort to do it. I'd imagine it would be even doubly so for ports of Neo-Geo games, which were created to high standards by motivated game programmers. -
New Atari Jaguar Games at 2017 Portland Retro Gaming Expo
Trooper Galactus replied to Albert's topic in Atari Jaguar
Making me wit until November. You teases! -
I have a boxed 32X and the entire 32X US release game library (all 36 of them). Aside from, like, two games, none of it is really worth much of anything, including the 32X itself. It's all just a matter of supply/demand. Nintendo stuff like the Virtual Boy always will have a market because there continues to be a big following for the brand with new fans being made all the time. Compare that with Sega, Atari, and NEC, and the number of people who have any interest is bound to be much more limited.

Arcade to Jaguar ports you would like to see.
Trooper Galactus replied to SlidellMan's topic in Atari Jaguar
I didn't think the home console versions were BAD necessarily, but without the 360 degree rotating joystick I felt like Ikari Warriors was always missing a crucial element of what made it such a unique game. As translated, it just felt kind of like so many other games. -

I loved Ikari Warriors but never liked the way it translated to home systems without that specialized joystick. -
I can hardly criticize; I didn't pay much less for mine. But let's face it, the BOX ALONE goes for about a hundred bucks, and they aren't always available, unless you want to take one of the ones from European sellers going for $400-500.

Yeah, but it looks like he has a wife and kid to feed too. And milk's like, what, three bucks a gallon now?

I've actually bought several Jaguar games NIB from Amazon to flesh out my collection in the last year or so (Fight for Life, Cybermorph, Sensible Soccer, Bubsy) and found the prices there to be pretty damn good in some cases.

As an owner of a boxed Neo Geo Gold system and about twenty games, I can attest that the Jaguar has a ways to go.
-
That'd be awesome! I have my Odyssey 2 games in SNES protectors; a bit tall, but the right size in every other respect. Lynx protectors are the same way, since they double as Game Gear protectors as well. I'd love to have a box to protect my Lynx system, though. While you're at it, if there's a way to get protectors for the Jaguar system and ESPECIALLY the Jag CD box (and game boxes, as discussed above), that'd be sweet!

Arcade to Jaguar ports you would like to see.
Trooper Galactus replied to SlidellMan's topic in Atari Jaguar
Albert made a whole slew of ports a while back, and R-Type was the first one I bought (along with Joust). He removed the thread for them a while back to focus on other things, but I don't know if he's still willing to make more or has any extras lying around for sale. But yes, I have an R-Type port, box, and instructions, all nesting comfortably with the rest of my collection, so rest assured I physically own it and am not just recounting some anecdote I think I saw in another post. -

R-Type was already ported, dude! My personal list: -Combatribes -Sunsetriders -Xenophobe -Afterburner -Cyberball -Alien Syndrome -Vendetta -Rolling Thunder -Raiden II I'd love to see the four player Turtles or Simpsons games ported, but that's some serious licensing that we'll never get. -
Yeah, I'm guilty of a lot of my collection being window dressing, but I do intend to sit down and play most of my games at length at every opportunity.

I've added just about everything video game related imaginable to my collection over the years, but I don't think Kiosks will ever be on my list.

ST Ports Series 2 Ready for Pre-Order NOW!
Trooper Galactus replied to Gaztee's topic in Atari Jaguar
Yup, I've bought from keep_em_minty. There's nothing really wrong with the protectors, but they are definitely made to be a bit more snug of a fit with the regular games and there's no way they'll hold Jaguar homebrews. -
Thanks!

Here we go. I've updated it with some of the suggestions I've received as well as release dates. If somebody knows which games are available as ROMs or in some other format, let me know and I'll try to add a column or two for that. Jaguar.xls

I noted the Team Tap with WMCJ because it was actually bundled with it, not simply because it used it.
-
I adjusted some of them to no longer be listed as homebrews, but did put a note in that they are independent ports of the games (i.e.-Joust, R-Type, etc.). I'll keep making adjustments as needed and attach an updated spreadsheet soon. If anybody sees something has been omitted, by all means let me know!
-
Good point. Maybe we just need to add some terms to our gaming lexicon.
-
Duly noted. As I said, I wasn't totally sure what exactly qualified as "homebrew" by definition. Feel free to message me with a complete list of suggestions for editing.

YOU zip it, Al!
