ST Ports Series 2 Ready for Pre-Order NOW!
Trooper Galactus replied to Gaztee's topic in Atari Jaguar
That said, I'd love to see the original available on the Jag, though I'd imagine it would be a severe under-utilization of the system's capabilities and might be good for a multi-title cart. Maybe combine it with some other old IIc and Commodore favorites like Karateka, Archon, Bard's Tale, the original Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, and Hardball! Heck, if I could get a dual cart of Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken and the Alien Airbenders, I'd probably wet myself. -

Yeah, when I played it I expected the level to be full-screen like it was in the original. Instead, it scrolled with your character and the entire feel of the game was lost. I downloaded it on my WiiU and instantly regretted it, though I do still need to add a CIB copy to my NES collection. -
Got my invoice! Between these, the Bad Commando set, the rest of the ST ports I needed, and the final Orion releases, my Jaguar shelf is gonna be pretty darn full soon! Even have a copy of the Battlesphere Gold reprint coming in the mail!

I had it on my old Apple IIc and loved it. The NES version....not so much. -
I haven't found the older FPS games to have stood the test of time given how much the genre has advanced, though given I can't play most of the earlier ones (sets off my vertigo), I might be biased against the likes of AvP, Doom, and W3D. The other ones you named aren't really ones I've had an urge to revisit with any kind of regularity, though it's been a while since I ran through my Jag library completely, so maybe I should give them another chance (though I'm pretty firm on not being a huge fan of Bubsy on the Jag).

I haven't received an invoice for Bionic/Dragon or the Orion re-releases yet. Don't wanna miss out!
-
Email sent. Always love adding some crisp new boxes to the shelf, and some solid games to boot!

Okay, fair enough.

With Orion's recent departure from developing games, I was just curious if anybody had ever tried to develop an aftermarket Jaguar CD unit or if it's even possible/legal? We seem to be stuck in a bind where producing CD games for the Jaguar is probably simpler and less costly, but it's not worthwhile because there just aren't enough operational units out there to create enough sales volume. I mean, even a lot of the people in this forum who are dedicated Jaguar players don't have a CD unit. I mean, if somebody was able to cobble together a cost effective stand-in, would that help the market for developers?

The real question is, which Jag games HAVEN'T I beaten off to? ....gonna have to get back to you on that one.

I literally just bought a sealed International Sensible Soccer on Amazon for, like, $60. As for loose Jaguars, I can't believe somebody is actually trying to sell a loose one for $300. I bought mine CIB about five years ago with a dozen games (also CIB) for less than that. I know the prices have gone up, but that's just a straight-up gouger. Even on eBay you should be able to find a loose one for $100-150. Sadly, we're past the days where you might be able to waltz into your local resale shop and luck into one at $50.
-
It's not too hard to find; CIB is a bit of a challenge, but they pop up regularly. In terms of price/rarity, Brain Dead 13 is up there as well. Most of the original 11 game run for the Jag CD is pretty easy to get. Given the small number of actual operational CD units compared to available games, it's not surprising there's limited demand for the limited quantities. As for why Primal Rage is so rare, it's probably the most in demand of the long box game in terms of popularity and playability.

Got mine today, and looks awesome!

If only I could actually find a copy of Impulse X...but has anybody made an Arkanoid cart? -
Total blast from my past! Used to play this a lot as a kid on my 2600, and even my sister enjoyed it back in the day (she was never a gamer). Still have the loose cart, but I have been wanting to add a CIB copy to my collection, and I'd definitely add a Jaguar version if you complete it. While I don't condone the negative sentiments of certain other posters here, I do understand that there have been many empty promises that have burned people before. Nonetheless, I wish you the best of luck in completing this and making it available to us Jaguar fans!

Always on the lookout for more PS4 stuff to play. Aside from a few of the exclusives, I mostly stay on my XBox One these days.

Absolutely drooling over getting these finally. Already have the protectors and the shelf space set aside!

I think most of these games would have been a hard sell in the mid-late nineties, even if they sold them at $20-25 apiece. Most gamers had simply moved on, and if you owned a Jaguar you probably had much higher expectations for the system's offerings. I guess if they'd done, like, a 4-in-1 cart, that could have brought in some nice supplemental sales.
-
Yeah, but what Jag games HAVE stood the test of time? I mean, Iron Soldier still plays well to a certain extent, and I think Raiden is one of the more outstanding top-down shmups out there. But aside from those and Tempest, I have yet to play any Jaguar titles that keep me coming back for more. Of course, I've yet to play even half the games in my library, so maybe I'll find another to fall in love with.

Actually, has anybody thought of trying to port a version of Arkanoid to the Jaguar? Be nice to get another rotary controller game, and that's one of my faves! Have the arcade version in a cocktail cabinet and the NES version CIB!
