What's your favorite Super Mario Bros?
Trooper Galactus replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thing about SF2 was they spent so long simply developing it and Alpha, which recycled old Capcom characters, that by the time 3 came out SIX YEARS after the original fatigue with the series had set in a bit. -
What's your favorite Super Mario Bros?
Trooper Galactus replied to toptenmaterial's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I went with World, but just as easily could have said 2 or Galaxy and not been lying. I'll give 3 and 64 their due, but for some reason they never resonated with me like those three. -
Wow. I've had a Retron 5 for a couple years now, and despite its limitations I've always been satisfied with it. Nice to see they're still doing development for it, and even though I have the PBC I will probably still get this adapter for the Game Gear and SMS Card games. Much as I'd like to see a TG-16 converter, I understand if it just isn't feasible, but my system is hooked up so it's all good.

There's a mod available to play Sega CD games in the original XBox? Had no idea! I'll need to look into that, though I want to keep the one I have in original condition (CIB and all).

I'll be on the lookout for a cart, and a box if/when one is made!
-
I'll be ordering the full set! I only have three of the carts thus far, but I'll be adding them all, so might as well make space in the case for them!

I'd love a boxed cart! -
Soccer Kid + Frog Feast combo cartridge by Songbird

Not sure I can be bothered with the combo cart, much as I want to, but I'd do FF as a standalone in a heartbeat! -
What Killed Sega Saturn & Dreamcast?
Trooper Galactus replied to Atariboy2600's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think Sega kind of let themselves get pushed out of the market in the latter half of the 90s. The Genesis was a runaway success, but its peripherals (CD/32X) were demonstrably awful in terms of their overall offerings and hurt some of their brand perception. It didn't help that basically every Sonic the Hedgehog game after the first three was a complete piece of crap for the most part, which meant their company mascot was reduced to a punchline. This while Nintendo did very well overall with the Mario brand (Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy, Mario Party, etc.). They were already losing market share to Nintendo when Sony interjected themselves into the marketplace with a very similar system and much larger corporate pull, and given the PS1 was easier to program for, third party developers weren't exactly flocking to develop games for the Saturn. Of lesser concern but still significant, Atari (Jaguar) and Panasonic (3DO) were also consuming a not-insignificant portion of the market share in the mid-to-late 90s. Once Microsoft entered the fray with the XBox, Sega was competing with three corporate giants on another level of being. Let's face it, even now partnered with Nintendo the former 1-2 of the gaming industry is collectively overshadowed by Sony and Microsoft these days. -
N64 Buying Guide & Top 10 Great Games
Trooper Galactus replied to Metal Jesus's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Always interesting to hear other people's takes on what games got them into a system or keep bringing them back to it! For me, I would have trouble leaving Conker's Bad Fur Day, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark, and Starfox 64 off the list of must-plays. However, one game that I have very fond memories of (and really need to add to my collection...surprised I've overlooked it for this long) is Jet Force Gemini. Was a very fun game with all-age appeal and pretty simple mechanics, plus a little bit of a puzzle element thrown in. I'd have recommended it to anybody who was buying the system. -
I've been mulling this over myself, as I am collecting for a lot of systems but could probably stand to limit what I'm searching for. As it stands, I'm about ready to give up on handheld games almost entirely outside of my TurboExpress (which plays the console games anyhow) and GBA (which can play basically the entire GB library anyhow and I have sentimental attachment to). This might mean parting with my Neo-Geo Pocket Color, but I don't exactly have a ton invested in it and it isn't taking up much space. Still, I have a lot of GB games in boxes which I'll likely never play, and it's pointless to hold on to a lot of them. Probably can part with my very large and almost complete Atari Lynx collection as well as my Game Gear stuff. As for consoles, I'm strongly considering getting rid of my Saturn and Dreamcast stuff. I didn't keep up with Sega much after the Genesis, and aside from a handful of very expensive games (Panzer Dragoon Saga in particular) I just don't have much interest in anything unique to those systems. I'll probably keep my PS1 games, but shed the system and just use my PS2s. At a minimum, I know I'm keeping my 2600, 5200, Jaguar, Nintendo, SNES, N64, TG-16, Odyssey 2, and Genesis collections for now.

The Official Turbografx 16 Thread!
Trooper Galactus replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Wow, a TG-16 thread in Atari Age! Who knew? Feel kinda late to this party, but TG-16 has been, along with the Jaguar, one of the focal points of my video game collection the last year or so. Have about 80% of the US releases for the TG-16/CD/Duo thus far, but admittedly have only played about half the games I own (2016 was not a banner year for me, so I've fallen quite behind on retro gaming). Just added Magical Chase (no box), Soldier Blade (complete), Neutopia II (complete), Legend of Hero Tonma (no box), and Lords of Thunder to my collection in the last couple months. Only really big hurdles remaining now are Bonk's 3 (CD and Hu-Card), Dynastic Hero, and Super Air Zonk. Most of the rest I'm missing shouldn't be too difficult to acquire. That said, I REALLY need to try Military Madness again. I loved Advance Wars, and I bought it immediately for my GBA when it came out. At the time, I thought it was a groundbreaking game, but lo and behold it took its cue from MM released all those years before! The one time I gave MM a shot I wasn't able to use my console (TV was shot) so I loaded it up on my TurboExpress. Needless to say, there's just no playing it on that small screen at all. -
Pretty remarkable that a corporation which once had complete domination of the marketplace and lost it through it's own stupidity would blame somebody else for their inability to grab a market share.

Just got my copy the other day. Can't wait to give it a try!
-
Crud, I want to get more of the ported game cartridges, but I just blew my game budget for some time getting some unicorns for the Turbografx-16. Hope they'll be available for a while.
-
So, they're going to take a game made for the PC which was ported to the Jaguar and port it back to the PC? People have too much time on their hands these days.

Is the Jaguar as bad as everyone thinks?
Trooper Galactus replied to totallyterrificpants's topic in Atari Jaguar
I think it's probably the most powerful cartridge-based system freely available to develop and code for, which probably lends itself to the attraction. Do programmers have to jump through any hoops to do programming for the NES, SNES, or N64? Heck, do people even do homebrews for the N64? -

My list of NES releases (non-Famicom) comes in at around 900, and that's with a smattering of PAL games on it. -
Is Full Circle: Rocketeer still available anywhere?

Derp, yes, it was. -

Yeah, missed the part of the thread where it was mentioned. Saw it and Rebooteroids and figured I'd treat myself to an early XMas, though I guess I kind of already did that when I got a copy of Ghost Manor for the TG-16 last week. -
Just ordered and stoked to have another rotary controller enabled game finally!

Hey, if somebody brings a Final Fight clone to the Jag, count me in!

I would read it!
