  1. Oh yeah, a good one is to check with your friends....like mine I ran across that had been to some yard sale awhile back, and bought about 100 titles. He's bringing these to me Friday along with my original's that came with my VCS (Thanks, Dad!). He's told me that I might be able to have ALL of them, since they're just sitting around in shoe boxes.
  2. I'd have to say the original stick still serves well through almost all my 2600 titles....although the paddles DO come in handy!
  3. Hello, and welcome! I'm also starting collecting, and right here is a great place to find others trading and selling! Also, flea markets and yard sales are another good place to find games, often in top condition WITH instruction booklets to match. I'm sure more adept Atari'ers will give you lots of help with this.
  4. I second that notion! That would be one helluva great machine as an arcade coin op. Since the system's a classic, you should have instant success with it. I say go for it! The system deserves that type of admiration!
  5. Ahh, my favorite topic! Well, there's Crono Trigger and Final Fantasy III for the SNES, Space Invaders, Berserk, Missile Command, and a SLEW of others for the 2600, Final Fantasy Tactics, Quake II, and Star Trek: Invasion for the PSX, and for the PC there is Baldur's Gate I: Tales of the Sword Coast, X-Com: UFO Defense AND Terror, the MOO (Master of Orion) series, and Master of Magic. Then again, there's another slew of games I enjoy! This isn't to mention the countless other systems (Odyssey II's Quest for the Rings...loved it!) I've played and had over three decades. If I had to REALLY pick? Hmmm, probably my two fav's of all time are Berserk and Phoenix for the Atari 2600.
  6. Ahh, the dreaded null zone. I've experienced that myself a few times. Well, when nothing you've got looks appealing (and don't panic and sell off your stuff like I did once...it was a lull in video game bliss then I swiftly kicked myself for selling it!)just read, watch movies, take walks, etc. Everything in moderation is the key, and just because something doesn't interest you for time, be it short or long, DON'T get rid of it! We all become "bored" with things, even something as great as our Atari fanatiscm. Now, a personal story. My PSX wasn't getting played. It sat there, with all the games I'd accumulated over the years gathering cobwebs. So, the other day, I cleaned up! I put the PSX and all the games in a box up in my closet for safekeeping, and made room for my Atari 2600. Since in the past I would have SOLD the system, this time around I've learned a lesson: Be a pack rat! Hope this helps you out during your sessions of "nothingness"..diversify!
  7. Thanks for the heads up! Also, someone kind enough sent me the list of Activision titles that were popular during the golden age. My thanks.
  8. I have to whole-heartidly agree with Rockingroll...this site is the best I've come across since Atari nostalgia hit me full force awhile back. Very informative, friendly, and the BEST people I've seen inhabiting a forum since my first experience on the web years ago. The respect level here is top notch, and I have yet to be flamed (I personally don't think it'll happen). Keep up the good work and thanks for providing a place for Atari fans everywhere to meet and share their stories.
  9. I have to agree with you, Stan! Also, a side note on the Atari being a collector's item. I was recently chatting with a friend of mine and happend to bring up the Atari 2600....he told me, much to my personal joy, that during a particular yard sale that he personally acquired about 100 Atari 2600 games, most of which had the original manuals! I almost jumped for joy when he told me this, especially as he said that he'll check whether or not he can GIVE them to me! Imagine my elation at the moment! Just FYI to everyone out there. The Atari 2600 and it's wonderful games most certainly are a collector's item.
  10. Hello, everyone! Just a quick question regarding Activision and it's titles. Could someone out there give me a complete list of all the Activision titles that were released for the Atari 2600? I cannot seem to remember them all, and for nostalgia purposes (as well as collecting purposes) I need a full list. Thanks for your help!
  11. Wow! Congrat's to all the older gamers! Looks like I've found several with like minds regarding classic video games and the Atari 2600! And a happy birthdays to all that just turned another year older. To be honest, I thought there were a lot of teens that were on these boards, but it looks like I was wrong! And to all those that are young and playing Atari despite the "current" consoles.....hat's off to you for playing a classic and still wonderful system. Now, a question to all....is there a free fanzine online that celebrates Atari? I'd love to browse it!
  12. I do agree that it's funny that these companies and commercials are using old sound effects from some of the more classic games. Goes to show you that if you play it, the older gamers will come! I did see this commercial, and a smile lit my face as I recognized some of the sounds...my old Atari was alive and well again!
  13. Now that you mention it, I've noticed several sites (also names not mentioned) that seem to be charging $10.00 and more for game manuals! Also, the games on these sites seem outrageously high..is this my imagination? I say deal privately with other people that share your passion for Atari...you'll reap the benefits at lower costs!
  14. Ahh, well, I was alive when the Atari 2600 came out! An old "fossil" like myself (35 this Thursday) remembers when the shelves of the local stores were FILLED with 2600's...fresh, clean, and boxed! Those were the days... *sniff*..lol..anyway, without the web and the internet, how else would all of us nostalga games, young AND old, get together to trade and talk? Heh, modern technology and old gaming unite!!
  15. Well, that's a good question...I'd have to say that the Atari 2600 tops the list, even over the other "modern" consoles. The reason? Playability! Of course the other systems look great with their flashy graphics and sound, but still....for retro gaming goodness there's no beating the old woodgrain 2600 for simple fun! I own several consoles, which now are gathering dust. The 2600 is a keeper for all time, and I find myself going back to it more and more. I've even packed the PS1 I have away in a box to place the 2600 next to the TV!
  16. Atari Jr.? Hmm, that's one I missed somewhere along the lines of Atari history! I only had the original 2600 woodgrain model and the cloned Sears model. This is news to me! Could someone fill me in on the history via email? I'd love to know more about this system I missed!
  17. Thanks for the welcome! My top fav games for the Atari 2600? Hmmm, that's a toughie. Well, if I were to choose, I'd have to say Space Invaders, Asteroids, and Berserk. But, like I said, it's tough to choose any one! I love them all, of course, except maybe Pac Man! Augh!
  18. Hello, fellow Atari fans everywhere! I'm new to these message boards, but in my quest to locate someone, SOMEWHERE who still played Atari 2600, I found you! I myself have owned/played the 2600 since it first came out, and my brother had one in his apartment! I remember saying, "I gotta get one of those!", and it's been a joy to own one ever since those early days. So, without further ado, let me say "Hiya" to you all, and here's to classic gaming at it's finest! Sun is fun, but I'd rather be playing Atari!
  19. Ahh, the Atari age...I WAS alive during that famed period in gaming history. In fact, I owned no less than 3 Atari's (two 2600's and one Sears clone)and remember the frenzy I had collecting all those great titles (Asteroids, Space Invaders, Pitfall and many, many more). Sadly, over the course of time, I lost the system and the games. Now, I have it again with SOME games (not nearly as many as I once did). Sure, you can emulate these games on your PC, but why? Wouldn't you rather hook it up to an old TV and play them with the original hardware?? I certainly would! The Atari 2600 was my first console, and despite the flashy graphics of today's systems, it's desire hasn't abated one bit over 20 years! I find myself playing it time and again for the wonderful experience of games that were fun to play, not just pretty to look at.
  20. Multi carts? Waaay back in the day, I had an old Atari 2600 (and still do, but a friend's got it!!) but never experienced multi carts! I know my current line up doesn't have one, either. I didn't think they even MADE them back then! Thanks for the heads up, everyone! Maybe I'll try to get some myself!!
