Nice job guys, I just tried out the last version, had very few hang-ups. I dumped Combat, Defender, both versions of Asteroids and Commando, I don't have any F4 carts, so I can't test that. I tried Robot Tank and I couldn't get it to work then I finally discovered (according to sizes.txt) that it's a FE cart that's been fixed to run as a F8, no wonder it didn't work.
-
Ok, it worked, I had to do it about 3 times and then it worked! Thanks batari, you da man!!

Ok, I tried this, and it doesn't seem to be working. Here's a pic of my setup: The Harmony Cart is on the bottom, the other cart is Adventure. Pin 24 is cut near the bottom, +5v from a USB cable is attached to pin 11 of the dump cart and the ground is attached to pin 12 which is connected to both carts. The "Harmony Programming Tool" tells me that the Harmony Cart is on com4. So after connecting everything and running dumper.bat: D:\Harmony\dumper>dumper Enter bankswitch type: 1. 2k/4k 2. F8 3. F6 4. F4 5. Custom 1 COM port of Harmony (ex. com2) com4 . When dumping has completed, press ESC Press any key to continue . . . lpc21isp version 1.80 File dump.arm: loaded... image size : 4332 Image size : 4332 Synchronizing (ESC to abort). OK Read bootcode version: 21 2 Read part ID: LPC2103, 32 kiB ROM / 8 kiB SRAM (0x4FF11) Will start programming at Sector 1 if possible, and conclude with Sector 0 to en sure that checksum is written last. Erasing sector 0 first, to invalidate checksum. OK Sector 1: ........... Sector 0: ...................................................................... ........................ Download Finished... taking 4 seconds Now launching the brand new code Terminal started (press Escape to abort) It never gets any futher than that. After about 20 minutes I press ESC and there is a file named lpc21isp.log that's 0 bytes long.

Ah, the good old days, when gaming companies weren't afraid to use toxic chemicals like lead and mercury in their products. Those were the days!

I believe that MAME will give a screenshot of the same size as the games' native resolution, if the game is 320x224 then the screenshot will also be 320x224 @72dpi.

Actually this is what you need: RCA female to BNC female adaptor

Have you tried changing to another channel on the TV and then changing back while the 7800 is on? I have some older games that seem to loose the signal if power-cycled but work just fine if I change the channel then change it back, or even turn off the TV then turn it back on. As Bruce Tomlin suggested above LCD TV can be finicky about the incoming signal, newer TVs seem to automatically adjust the channel according to the signal, and sometimes they get it wrong.

I just tried them both on my Harmony and they are definitely white & blue.

The problem with a self-built optical trackball is, 2 of the directions will always be reversed. While flipped, if the mouse points away from you left/right will be reversed, if you point the mouse toward you up/down will be reversed. Not sure if MAME or other emulators can compensate for that. Maybe bouncing the beam off a small mirror first would do the trick, I don't know??

I agree, senselessly smashing things for fun is just plain stupid and immature. But here's the problem that I see, and I mean no disrespect to you HollowPoint123 but, when you see something like that and you post it to a forum then hundreds or even thousands of people will click on your link, and that only adds fuel to fire. These dimwit kids see that there are a bunch more hits to their idiotic video and that makes them want to do it even more. It's like the news on TV showing crazy stuff that these attention starved teenage celebrities are doing. If they would just stop showing it maybe these kids will find something more constructive to do with their time.

All games you can find in the wild work at the Harmony cart as well. And if you happen to find some that don't work, just post them to the Harmony forum here, and I'm sure Batari will have them working in no time. BTW: Welcom to AtariAge, you can check out but you can never leave!

I think I have a dead Omega Race also. I just got it because it had a booster grip with it. It starts with the title screen ok but then goes to vertical lines and a tone as if no cart is inserted. I've cleaned the hell out of it and tried it in 6 different consoles including 2 7800s but no luck. Luckily I have another one that does work. I also have a dead Yars' Revenge & Astroblast.
-
Ok, that's kinda what I was thinking, but thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks A.J.

Nice mod batari. Thanks. One question though,I notice that when a cart is not selected, you have its A12 line grounded, is it necessary to ground A12 or can it just be left disconnected?

Halo for the 2600 Released at CGE! Download the game here!
Buzbard replied to Albert's topic in Atari 2600
This is Awsome! Thanks, Ed and Al for posting it. -
3 wires total, just move the yellow wire to the select side. Do the same with the remote switches. Then use the red wire as a common for both remote switches.
-
That should be an interesting project, I look forward to seeing what the finished project looks like. Are you referring to the switches inside the console? Each of those switches has 6 posts but only 2 are actually needed. If you's using a 4 switch console, pull out the board a flip it over, you should see something like this: if you look at these traces you'll see that you really only need a total of 3 wires for the Reset & Select switches. They share a common ground (marked by the blue arrow), just attach a wire to one of those bottom 4 pads. Then attach your reset and select wires to each of the upper pad sets.

Try this: Download this: mame.zip and extract it to your C: drive, this is a standard mame directory structure, I've included the free roms that are provided on the mame website. Go here: MAME | Latest Release and download the first file under "Official Windows Binary Packages"(which should be at the time of this post "mame0139b.exe") Double-click the file that you just downloaded and type in C:\MAME in the "Extract to:" box and press Enter. Navigate to the c:\mame folder and double-click mame.exe then select a game and press enter.

Check ZX-81's web site he has emulators for Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Colecovision, Intellivision, Commodore, Vectrex, etc... Don't expect the paddle games to work very well on the PSP since there's no paddle controller. Most VCS games work fine except Pitfall II and a few others that I can't remember right now.

How does paddle autodetecton work on the Harmony?
Buzbard replied to Underball's topic in Harmony Cartridge
That's right, center pin on the pot is connected to +5v(pin 7) and the left pin(looking at the bottom of the pot, with pins facing you) is connected to pin 5. Fire button for player 1 paddle is pin 4(aka joystick right). When you look at the control port connector on the console the pins are numbered as such: 1-2-3-4-5 -6-7-8-9- 1=joystick up 2=joystick down 3=joystick left / paddle2 fire 4=joystick right / paddle1 fire 5=paddle 1 6=joystick fire 7=+5v 8=ground 9=paddle 2 -
Abso-freakin'-lutely AWSOME! I bought my first 7800 because of the Harmony. I just can't wait for this release. Will this also play 2600 games on the 7800 or will it be 7800 only? Either way it's still awsome. Thanks in advance batari!

No, if you open up a DC you'll only see 4 wires, ground, up, down & fire.
