  1. So, there won't be a PS9, XBox 1920, nor a Nintendo 1024 console - apparently we'll all be playing games on your flat screens without a console. *pffth* Really? REALLY? And recordable media will go away too...I'm sorry but I'm not replacing DVDs with USB flash drives anytime soon if ever...far more likely to use recordable blue ray discs instead.

    Video Game Consoles

Popular video game systems such as the Wii, PlayStation and Xbox may still be in homes next decade, but they will look much different. Rather than buy a separate console, Enderle expects that consumers will instead buy smart televisions with a gaming system built into it, not to mention tablets and smartphones that will continue to ramp up their gaming options.

“It looks like analog game systems won’t make it until the end of the decade,” Enderle says. “You are already seeing the Wii have a tough time holding on to the market and PlayStation has been struggling for a while.”

The gaming systems that will succeed in the future will be those that manage to move away from being focused solely on video games and more on other entertainment options such as movies, evolving from a traditional game console into more of a set-top box.

  2. Oh wow, another CCW 5200 proto has shown up. Astro Grover was planned for the 5200, but no one has ever found a prototype of it until now. As Allan pointed out, the 8-bit version of the game WAS released. The 5200 version should be identical, but there may be minor differences.

Very cool find! One of a kind to be sure.

    Tempest

The obvious one - the copyright date.

  3. If you've found one of the Earthworld competition carts out in the wild...you've gotten yourself a video game holy grail. Can the programmer, Dan Hitchens be found to confirm the differences in the marketed game and the competition game?

  4. Well...I dunno how many people NEED to attend...it's very crowded as it is which is why I didn't like the move from the more spacious Oconomowoc but Big Bang may get as big as MGC soon now that it has gotten established and is now more attractive to vendors.

There is something to say about the vendor issue - the same vendors don't have to be there for each day. They can do one day, then a different vendor can come in...kinda resupplies the variety of product when a bunch of stuff has been sold.

  5. >Everything from the Galloping Ghost Arcade - I wasn't familiar with it, now I'm going to have to make a road trip and spend a day there. I loved that they brought a Simpsons Arcade machine, a game that has sadly never seen a home port.

It came out for the Commodore 64 and the PC actually.

Ahem, Midwest Gaming Classic really needs to be extended another day. Big Bang is four days ... why can't MGC be three? They claim there's not enough volunteers...but how'd they staff Big Bang for four?
