  1. Little advice...they HATE bad publicity, and get very responsive when it's out in public that they're being jackoffs that they fall all over themselves to tell people they're not jackoffs and change their attitudes in a hurry...

SEND A LETTER TO THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER AND NAME NAMES of people that are being jackoffs and doing BAD BUSINESS. Other people will read, and they'll start asking questions...and they'll get very uncomfortable. I've resorted to this a few times and got rsults.

  2. I dunno if last year was better than this year, but having different stuff this year kept things fresh so maybe people were missing certain vendors and didn't like who came in their place. It seemed like there were more pinball and arcade games to play this year than last. *I* certainly bought more stuff this time than last, though I spend it Sunday afternoon on a hard look for bargains when dealers were cutting prices so they didn't have to take it home. Who knows they may have to expand into a third ballroom next year.

  3. Right before I arrived in Wisconsin for the 2008 Midwest Gaming Classic, I had a card for free tokens at this arcade in De Kalb, IL home of Northern Illinois University. I arrived about an hour before it was supposed to open, which I didn't know its hours...but the owner happened to be walking out the door and because I was the second person to come in from the MGC promotion he opened early for me and so I pulled out the camcorder to showcase this facility and do an interview with Patrick O'Malley. Enjoy!

We added the Future Pinball Wizard tournament for kids 5 and under (Jack Pace won 1st place), and a charity silent auction that earned just over $2000 for local charity. WOW!

  5. Well ladies and gentlemen they had no trouble filling up the venue with exhibitors and games to play. Even with some vendors that were there last year but not this year, they manged to fill in the void to me. I think perhaps they might need MORE exhibit space next year.

  6. Not down with SI and Colony 7 Remo? :( . Its cool.

I like the Super Pac-Man Plug N Play as well just due to the fact it has Super Pac-Man and Pac N Pal on it and you dont see thoses two often and you can save your high scores which is a cool feature too. :)

That pretty much has been superceded by the fourth edition pac-man joystick which combines the 1st and 3rd edition games together.

  7. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on the Genesis has a crash screen -

    Stage skip:

Start a single player game. Press Start on the controller two after the first round ends to advance to the next opponent.

    Glitch: Stage skip:

The stage skip trick can be used during the Shao Kahn match. Your square will move past the top of the match pole and you then fight endless battles against mainly Kano, Sonya, or someone else on occasion. The stage skip can continue to be used to make this go faster but eventually if you reach any E box, the game will display an error screen including something like this:

    Exception $03: Address Error

    Access Address: 00FF0497

    Access Mode: Read, Instr

    Address Space: Supervisor Program

    Instruction Reg: 6001

  8. I wish I'd been reading the 5200 forum lately, didn't even know this project existed...

The other day I started disassembling/commenting the 5200 Tempest proto, planning to port it to the Atari 8-bit computers, and possibly turn it into a finished game.

It looks like the 2nd part is already being done better than I could possibly do it (you guys have the original programmer, cool!)...

I did manage to successfully turn the 5200 ROM into an 8-bit binary load file, and it actually loads and runs on an 800XL. Even better, I can ORG it to a different address than $8000 and it works (means I got all the code & data sections separated correctly). I haven't changed the input routines, so it's still trying to read the 5200 keypad, so I can't actually start a game yet, but the title screen displays correctly and I can around in the level select with a paddle.

I probably will go ahead and make the input changes, but the rest of my project is obviously redundant... Any chance your team is planning to port your finished game to the 8-bit? I'd be interested in doing it... and Tempest for the 800XL would be just as much a Holy Grail as Tempest for the 5200.

    Any interest?

Nice to know that someone else has taken up the cause. Right now, we have no plans to port it to the 8-bit. There are a few reasons, first the control. Tempest is programmed to use an analog control scheme taking advantage of different speeds. A digital control will NOT work well as you won't be able to land on some of the tubes. A trakball is a possibility, but right now we have not explored it. Second, the game will be 32k which will require bank-switching on the 8-bit. There are a lot of things planned for the game so we will need all the space.

So as of now we have no plans for an 8-bit version, so it will be a 5200 exclusive.

Have you thought of using the 2600 Driving Controller? I think there's some folks that would like to play something other than Indy 500 with the gadgets.
