These tech sites reporting on this are still awful. Consider the subheading to TechRadar's report:
Wait, the Chameleon was a real product that had an updated version and in its lifetime sold millions of units?
Ugh. This is why I avoid mainstream game journalism like the plague.

Nintendo seems to be the only company that still supports local play. Bless them.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Friday The 13th and Nightmare On Elm Street. Highly doubt it would happen, but a fool can dream.

I just discovered that the user Janus, who had been trolling in this thread (including repeatedly calling people here "haters") until I finally kicked "her" out, is actually Mark Kaminski, who works for RETRO Magazine. Janus had a previous account by the name Mr Retro, although he hasn't used that one since last September. In this interview with Mike Kennedy and Mark Kaminski, Mike Kennedy states about Mark:
You can look at Janus' posting history here. Here are some select quotes from him:
And so on..
Mark is now posting on the Digital Press forum using the same Janus persona. Here's the text of the post I just linked:
..Al

"What purpose the PCI card served?"
Um... its purpose was to FOOL people. Wow. That was easy.
If Coleco honestly doesn't know that, it's not hard to see how Mike strung them along this far.
Being able to record while I'm playing would be an awesome feature.
However I doubt that's why its there.

it's not really a 64 bit server, it's two 32 bit servers running in tandem...

It's exhausting to have to put up with the blunders directly or indirectly connected with this textbook masterpiece of a project.
Why did Gamester81 made that video? I mean what was he thinking to obtain?
I hope this was not rehearsed or written down but was just randoms incoherent rants for being caught with the pants down and not feeling bad about it .... on second thought I wish he wrote it down and read it to himself, maybe that lonely neuron left over from the great escape of the rest of his brain, would have fired up and stopped him from doing even more damage.
Every time they have some knee-jerk reaction only the "jerk" part seems to emerge.
After a couple of attempts from all the parties involved I think that's all there really is to it.
[so far only J-F and Piko seems to have taken a satisfactory position, imho, they got fooled, they went along for sometime now it's done and it's undefendable]
I thought it was going to be him explaining that he was just involved with making games for the CC and not involved with the prototype fraud. But this video had a twist that would make M. Night Shyamalan blush!
Nothing pisses me off more then people saying "It's just video games. More important things are going on!" Yeah. The fact that worse things are happening in the world completely excuses all other bad actions. Say that to the cops if you ever get pulled over. See how well that flies! I would expect the "It's just video games" line from someone who has no involvement in the hobby. Not someone who is supposedly passionate about it. People are right to be pissed off about this.

It all goes askew about nine minutes in. Mike didn't make "a mistake." He made a series of mistakes that turned into lies. OF course everyone makes mistakes. It's how you deal with them that measures what kind of man or woman you are.
I'm 12 minutes in and now, the Chameleon situation is not a big deal because ISIS is killing people all over the world. Also, no one lost money. Again, ask the RGR guys about that.
15 minutes in; Pat's the bad guy because he didn't reach out to Mike for "the facts." Not that Mike had the facts, but Pat should have reached out to him (?). Also, Pat's a hypocrite because he worked for RETRO magazine (a fact he disclosed on the first podcast he did about the Retro VGS. Keep in mind John did not disclose his involvement with the RVGS).
18 minutes; Pat's doing this for views and there's two sides to every story.
21 minutes; he's upset that people take away what one guy says on the internet as gospel. He hosts a show where people go to him for his opinions about games; I'm at a loss to see how people treating Pat's (sourced) opinions is any different than him telling us how great the Retro VGS was going to be.
This was a pretty interesting video; as he says up front, he wasn't going to change anyone's opinion. He starts off fairly contrite. He's clearly very upset about his integrity being besmirched; but vacillates WILDLY between being upset with Mike, and then saying that we should look at both sides and understand that maybe Mike had good reasons for what he did. He talks about how he doesn't want to dredge up the past or get into internet drama, but goes after Pat. He says he's sorry for calling people at these forums names and for leading CollectorVision down a path with Kennedy (he was upset that suddenly some contract terms were changed on the eve of the Kickstarter)... but then he is upset that he has to apologize at all. He's angry people want him to talk about this in his comments and Twitter and Facebook, but is also angry that no one asked him what he thought about all of this (?). Pretty puzzling, all considered.
Wow! This video did not play out they way I thought it would!
Pat never said a damn thing Gamester81. He has been nothing but honest about how he wrote for RETRO magazine. And I don't think he has to attack anyone to get more hits.
Lot's of sour grapes here.

Certainly explains the new (official) 3ds console design in Japan.

I promised myself i'd not buy a new 3DS but this is just too much to say no...
Damn it! Japan always gets the better 3DS skins.

Sony is in the most trouble at the moment. Yes, the PS4 is doing great. But the rest of the company is failing badly.

Also I must include a few more...
Janet Maddox Goree's "New Life" from Atatiage.

At this point they should just revive the original ColecoVision hardware and call it a day. If it were a truly faithful reproduction I would definitely buy one.
If someone made something like the Retron 5 that could play ColecoVision, Atari etc. I would buy one without hesitation.

Maybe there's enough hardware and variety of platforms out there now as it is. Do we need more? Maybe it's getting, or going to get, exponentially harder to come up with new and proprietary hardware bases. Maybe products now need to be borne out of presentation and convenience rather than a whole new hardware platform.
There's billions of smartphones and millions of consoles, do we need more?
Without bringing a box of emulators up, yet again, I think (and so do you) there is a market for a nice comprehensive all-in-one solution. And it can come in many shapes, one of which was the original RetroVGS. Cool. But for whatever reason (I don't care why) it morphed itself into something I didn't want.
Wouldn't it be cool to play NES, VCS, Astrocade, Intellivision, Colecovision, TI & Atari & Commodore 8 & 16 bit, TRS-80 & Apple II stuff, Vectrex, and many more.. All in one box? I think that's what gamers and enthusiasts want in addition to some of their prized original hardware.
We have some of that already, but I think it can be implemented and presented 100% better.
I agree 100%. And I think there is a market for it. What I don't understand is how a project could get this off track!

How hard would it have been just to stick a Android or Raspberry Pi in the shell, add a couple bluetooth wireless game controllers, and claim that was the prototype? Sticking a SNES in the shell seriously sounds like something a 14 year old would do.

Would a Retron 5 fit inside a Atari Jaguar shell? I'm asking for a friend...

Since Team Chameleon seems to specialize in producing fake expensive rare pieces of ****, I thought it would only be fitting to pair it with another equally fake and expensive rare piece of ****!
If anyone recalls the fake Air Raid thread members had fun with a few months ago...

You beat me to it! lolz

How is this still a thing? After all the BS that has already gone down?

I guess this is as good a place as any to show off my own creation again: the Aquarius Alpaca, a new game system based on a Mattel Aquarius inside a Jaguar shell!
