[Does anybody else rock a CRT?]

I use a CRT for my retro consoles. It's a very basic Sharp. 20", mono sound. Only one composite/one coax input. I use a y-adapter to combine sound channels. Got it for free last year, when my old CRT kicked the bucket.

[RGB mod on an AV Famicom, worth it?]

Hey guys, I had a quick question. I have an AV Famicom that I play on a flat-screen CRT. The TV supports s-video and I was thinking about getting an RGB mod done. Before I commit to anything, I was wondering if anyone else on here has had this done, and if it's worth the money? Is the picture quality from composite to s-video worth it on my tube television; or would I be better off saving my money? - Regards

I'm glad this topic inspired a debate. My whole issue is the artificial inflation. Just because I'm willing to pay up to X, doesn't mean that's what the item should sell for. My issue is the person bidding with 0 feedback, bidding 15 straight times, who bids 100% exclusively on a specific seller's items. That's what brought up this post in the first place. I actually called out the seller on his BS. I knew he was shill bidding on another account, and he tried to play coy and act like he was on my side. I told him, "If that's the case, remove the shill bids. You have the right as a seller to remove bids from an auction." Guess what? After doing everything but admitting his guilt, he removed the bids. Then the auction took a natural course, not the artificially inflated one.

[What Thrift Store finds did you pass over...and later regret?]

About 20 years ago, at toys r us, I bought a 32x and a three games from the bargain bin. 20 bucks for the 32x, 5 bucks for each game. They had several copies of, Spider Man: Web Of Fire. Had I known it would be worth so much now, I'd have bought every copy.

I'm getting really disgusted with the amount of shill bidding going on. eBay Doesn't give a crap about it either, even if you report the person, and it's blatantly obvious what they're doing. I've been bidding on retro games, since 2003. I think I'm going to give up eBay; start my own site. lol. Has anyone else noticed this, or had any similar issues with online auctions?

[Nintendo Classic Mini announced]

I was happy to see this in the news. However, I have a feeling Nintendo is going to include all the roms built into the board, leaving no ability to hack the hardware. That was the great thing about the Neo Geo X, with the whole sd card thing. Even the atari flashback 2 could be hacked to play real carts. It should be interesting to see how this unfolds.

[What Is the Most Under-Rated Console?]

I would go with the Sega Saturn and Bandai WonderSwan. Though the Saturn did fairly well here in the states, it was a very unappreciated system for it's time. I remember going to Sears and seeing all the Saturn stuff on clearance. They were basically giving stuff away. Had I known then what I know now, I'd have bought it by the boatload. The WonderSwan on the other hand, never made it's way out of Japan. I think it's more obscure than under appreciated; but I never hear anyone talking about it.

[Are too many people reviewing retro games--is it ruining the market?]

Obviously, this question is totally subjective. But what is the census opinion on this? Do you guys think too many people are hopping aboard the retro gaming bandwagon? It seems everyone and their uncle is playing retro games; on YouTube anyways. A lot of people who didn't even grow up in the era seem to be interested as well. Not to mention the people that think retro gaming is a gold mine, who are only in it for reselling. I guess the second question would be, is this causing price inflation on the games? Is it really supply and demand at this point, or has the market--for a lot of otherwise common games--been artificially raised? I scratch my head sometimes when I'm on eBay. Anyone care to give their opinion?

The N64 version for split-screen alone. The PS1 you needed two consoles, the link cable, two copies of the game, and two televisions for multiplayer. Boy did that suck lol. Never played the Saturn version. PC is always good as well.

Dragon Crystal, Shining Force, Sonic, Columns, The Majors Pro Baseball, and a bunch of other stuff. I miss my game gear! I really wish someone would mass produce a console version. It's really not all that practical to play these days.

[Your Favorite Mario Party?]

The original. Me and my friends broke a lot of controllers, rotating the shit out of them for the mini games. In hindsight, it seems like poor game design, but boy was it intense!

[How much does nostalgia impact your opinion on games?]

That's a valid question. Realistically, a lot of the games I loved as a kid are not held nearly as high in regard as they once were. That's not to say that certain games haven't aged really well. Take SMB3 for example: the best game ever! But is that my nostalgia talking? It could be. Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and several other Mario games have certainly passed it's greatness, in my opinion. Do I acknowledge that, or do I refute those claims, solely based off of bias memories from years long passed? It's an amazing game, but it's been outdone by it's successors. My actual favorite game is, Final Fantasy 6. Has been since the first time I laid my eyes on it. Playing through the game now, I still feel the game has aged very well. Is the story as engrossing as a modern RPG, or does it have as many hours of playtime, DLC, or online capability? No; it doesn't. But that doesn't make it any less amazing than the day I first played it. In regards to Zelda, I never really enjoyed the first one; even as a kid. I thought it was cryptic and really not that much fun to play. Even as an adult, I still don't consider it anything more than a building block for the series. I appreciate it as a landmark piece in gaming history. I have played through and beaten it multiple times. But I really don't think the series started to shine until ALTTP. That is definitely in my list of favorite games of all time. But yeah. To answer question, I suppose it does in a sense. But at the same time, if a game is good to begin with, it will always be a good game. Games don't just turn bad over time. Then again, good is just a matter of perspective. Everything is subjective, based on one's own opinion.

Beat it back in the day; still have a copy laying around. It's definitely a fun puzzle game, in that Puyo Puyo style. I personally prefer a good game of Dr. Mario. Both solid games though.

[Have You Ever Camped Out for a Console?]

Sure did, for the ps2. Local news was there and everything. I waited all night outside CompUSA; remember those? Only 15 consoles were available. They handed out 15 vouchers at 6:30 AM, so you could come back at a later time, when they were open (to prevent being jumped). Some guy offered me a couple-thousand for my voucher, which I politely declined. In hindsight, I should have probably taken the money. I remember hearing about a lady being attacked by someone, with a baseball bat. Crazy stuff.
