I have the board out and cannot see any bad solder joints, multimeter detects contact being made on all pads... other than the up contact bridge being cracked... I will need to replace or repair it I guess. Other than that, it could still be related to diodes I suppose huh? I have a few more controllers in the post... so maybe I can do some donor work.
Check for continuity in the actual wire too - it may be broken somewhere

lol it is just ADAM or COLECO ADAM, to much use of the word "CPU" going on here

Well... Technically the Adam is the printer, keyboard, one data drive and the cpu (memory console), so I wanted to make sure no one thinks they are getting a complete system. There are people who dont read and would just see the one picture and think wow everything.

Bad video ram?

I am trying to diagnose a wonky controller and am coming here in hopes of finding answers. Initially I just rebuilt it as my other one, but when I went to test, it could turn right and that was it. I have looked online and found a bit about the controller and how it is wired and functions. I have tested my cable for continuity, noting the 2 pins that don't have a wire connected. I am now diagnosing the PCB and have found my contacts have continuity, and am now trying to figure out how to see which buttons are registering at the base of the PCB where the wires join.
How do I test the board in a way that will allow me to see if there are bad spots in the diode chain? Will that be my best bet? I have reflowed most of the joints, and the board *looks* good, but am wondering if I should just do them all. Thanks in advance.
If you have an adam and smart basic write a little program to test it, thats what I have

Ah, that explains it!
Well, I hope you're able to sell this one, ideally to someone who will love it.

Already gone - they usually only take about 3 days to sell - I'll put another up soon same deal - maybe with a few extras

It sure seems like it. And yet, it sits there.
My recent observation has been that people are looking for very specific things. This is in several markets, not just classic computers & video games. If it's exactly what people want, it'll go for a high price or it'll be instant BINed. If it's not exactly what people want...it'll sit there.
That may be what's going on here.
That said, I wonder what the price was on 08/20, since the auction mentions that date. That must be when it was first put up for auction.
I actually just updated it - I sold one in August and used the description for the games in this since they are the same games- didnt realize there was a block of text about the weight from then with the date. The one in August was auctioned and went for 275 - this one I am testing the waters since it has an after market power supply and keyboard cable, not a complete original system with printer like the one in august

Hi - am refurbishing an Adam for resale and have an issue with the printer. The print head does not strike the daisy wheel when I print - The relay is not making the plunger move. I swapped heads and it is the same on the other head, anyone know where on the circuit board this may be controlled? I am thinking that maybe a capicitor or something is bad
Any help is appreciated

This may be a stupid question but here goes... I know I can fix the trace by sanding the plastic and using a trace pen to draw another trace but would this work as well... How about putting a small staple on the trace to bridge the connection? Would that work?
Thanks!
If you are reselling it I would suggest not, unless you tell the buyer - I have refurbished a lot of adam parts that were fixed with hot glue, tape etc- messy and ruins the original (and getting rarer) parts

Hi - you can get a mAdam controller and switch out the pad - I sell them

No languages are built in - unlike most 80's computer systems - the Adam has the word processor built in (I think one of its failings) and you have to load any language or operating systems. So you will need it on datapack or disk as NIAD said - You can get a lot for software from my store and if you have nothing contact me, I'll send you a basic tape to get started.

I used to own an Adam, but I sold it to someone who really wanted one. Mine never had a disk drive. At the end of the day, I never really got to use it as a computer. Currently, I just have two ColecoVision consoles and various accessories.
To see what I was missing, I loaded up AdamEm and now I'm looking at a screen displaying the Electronic Typewriter and my question is:
How do you load a file from a diskette on a Coleco Adam computer?
I am assuming you are using the emulator still - if so and it is the dos version look at the adamem.txt file for details. You will need disk and / or tape images If you haev them here is a simple dos command line to start it
adam -da "full path to disk image"
replace the "full path to disk image" with the full path minus quotes. You can have up to 4 disks, -db -dc and -dd and 2 tapes -ta and -tb like I have here:
adamem -da media/disks/smart.dsk -db media/disks/smartwrk.dsk -ta media/tapes/transfer.ddp -tb media/tapes/hacker.ddp -dc media/disks/ann/MAR16ANN.dsk
This loads smart basic, gives me a scratch disk (drive b) and loads a blank tape image, one of hackers guide and one disk (drive c) of one of the old ANN disks
On new PC's you can use dos box to make it work

Been a while since I've used it, but it appears the typical video corruption issues that colecovisions / adams usually get. I need to hook it up to be sure.
You can sometimes adjust that - if you pop the cover on the RF modulator you can adjust Channel B to get channel 3 and 4 to be cleaner and Audio subcarrier to get sound back (see pix)

What's wrong with ur Adam?

Hmmm guess I don't need to finish AViD - or is this like the IDE in that it is not fully compatible with everything Adam?
