Finally upgraded my Hard Drive tonight to a SDD
Mord replied to Punisher5.0's topic in Sony Playstation 3
A 1TB drive will work in a PS3. I have one in my Slim model working just fine. Still need to pick up another one for my spare Slim. -
Is the Switch going to get (or getting) a ton of Shovelware?
Mord replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Nintendo Switch
Any console that gets popular ends up getting shovelware. So long as it's relatively easy to find the gems then it shouldn't be a problem. That being said, I'm not sure if I think the eshop is really the best suited for gem finding at the moment. -
This isn't my cup of tea either, but it does have a market it can cater to. How large a market that ends up being will determine exactly how long it'll be around and how many extra free designs will emerge over the years.

Dug out my own confirmation email today. Wasn't too worried about it being misplaced since I remembered seeing it last year when I was digging out spam.

Brand New Atari Jaguar Pro Controllers- For Sale!
Mord replied to Starwander's topic in Atari Jaguar
Is there an estimated date when these things will be ready to ship? And is it possible to pay with a money order, or is this a paypal-only kinda thing, etc? -
I plan on starting in on a new game on the PS4 after christmas, although still not sure which one. Kind of tempted to do Ys VIII but with their complete-redo of the localization not completed yet, it feels like it'll be a train wreck to even attempt it. I may just start off small and try to finish up the two touhou games I still need to finish.

Mine has the same setup as yours then, but I can't say I've had those issues. However I'm not a plus member anymore, and it's been probably over half a year or more since the last time I bought anything from the shop. (To be honest I find that digital deals aren't what they use to be already - sadly for the industry I can't be bothered to buy a dlc burdened game that's "only" 60-70 dollars during a 50% off sale.) This being said, my tendency to buy anything from PSN dropped sharply after they had that DLC screwup with Project Diva F 2nd that took them several months to bother fixing - was more important to them to finish putting out the 100+ dollars of DLC. Really dropped my confidence in the company to make sure that everything I can buy on the store will Just Work.) One thing I have noticed lately is that the PS4 will respond sluggishly for a while after exiting the store. I'm guessing because the store is stuffing up the ram, making it a bit sluggish. For instance if I leave the store then try to scroll across the games in the home bar, it'll take a couple seconds for each one to be scrolled over. Once they've been scrolled over once (loaded into ram) then you can move over them quickly again. If I just avoid going into the store I don't have that kind of initial sluggish response.

Weeeeelll... when at the beginning especially there would always be a shortage of games on the store shelves - but those exact same games available in infinite supply in the e-shop, I guess that can certainly alter the intent of the numbers. Ultimately it means people wanted games regardless of how they could get it - even if they'd prefer to get physical, if they had to deal with digital, so be it.

Like their mp3 service? Mind you, an extremely negative consumer backlash made Walmart change it's mind about shutting off the servers at the time, although the point is that just because a company is big you shouldn't assume it'll always be around. They don't need bankruptcy to pull the plug - just not high enough profit margins. (Especially the case with stores that aren't completely dependent on the drm service of the day for their bread and butter - you have a much better reason to have confidence in steam than a retail chain.)

I don't think anyone but you really cares about that. At least everyone is using the term in the same way so they all know what they're talking about. It certainly won't be the first time, nor the last, that a word will gain a new common-use definition. But I understand how pet peeves work, having some of my own, so I won't say much more about it. *edit* If it helps quell the peeviness (a new word), keep in mind when people are talking about buying a game digitally, they mean they're only buying the digital part of the product. When they buy physical, they're buying the digital + the content it's printed on. That's basically what people are thinking when they use the term.

Looks like the gamegear I had in storage is busted. Powers on, but doesn't read any carts. :/

The only thing left with the fine vertical scrolling demo I have posted is to get the CHARBASE register updated reliably at the proper time. I'm pretty sure I was on the right track for getting it done, but there's still work that needs to be done.

You should keep in mind that the costs of the characters/upgrades were drastically cut after the outrage where people who did the math were saying it would take thousands of hours. Also keep in mind someone mentions above that there was apparently a glitch where people were getting 10x the credits they were intended to. This is assuming these people were playing the game legit and not finding some way to unlock everything without the necessary credits, or were at least telling the truth that they didn't spend a dime, or weren't a paid off shill. (That actually happens in this industry.) Bottom line: If it was easy to effortlessly unlock everything "in just a couple days" then the loot crate system that most definitely cost them a chunk of change to develop and painstakingly integrate into the core progression system of the game so it couldn't be removed would have been a complete waste of time and resources. You know as well as we do that they added it because they knew people would feel pressured to open the wallet if they wanted to get more than a couple of favorite characters unlocked and powered up. And that's not just a BF2 thing. ANY game that incorporates an in-game gambling system (And that's all lootboxes are, regardless of what people want to officially classify them as) into their game, it's being done to milk the customer. If gamers want devs to stop doing that, they'll have to collectively take a stand and just not buy any game with such a system in it. Believe it or not, if it's done by enough gamers then you won't even miss out on many games as devs will definitely feel the pressure to go remove the system just to get off the collective boycott.

"Open Lootbox, maybe progress." Can't get much simpler than that.

I have the first game on PS3 as physical, so getting it included as a digital download on the Switch with the 2nd, which I don't have (no Wii U), I'll gladly take it. Of course I have 128 gigs on my sd card for filling up with that stuff.

Looking for 7800 programmer to assist porting a game
Mord replied to peteym5's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
I'd assume if the blank character is the same width as the full sprite it's replacing it would still be read the same. Maria would need to read in the byte to even know it was blank. One thing you could probably do, although I don't know how useful this would be in practice, is to have your sprites set up so that there's enough of a blank space at the start of each sprite. Then to "erase" them, you'd just have to change the width to be minimum - ie: just the blank portion of the sprite? Not a perfect solution but probably one of the fastest to change on the fly if you're directly editing the DLs. -
So nintendo has hit a home run with the switch
Mord replied to LutzfromOz's topic in Nintendo Switch
The vast majority of the Wiis that sold were sold to people that didn't actually play games however, which is why most of it's user base was fairly silent. There's truth to people saying most Wiis were kept in closets and used as a party game with Wii Sports etc. This was shown by extremely low game sales. That isn't happening this time around however, at least as far as anyone can tell. -
Developer: That's not true! Is it true??! Publisher: Yes.

Mord replied to peteym5's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
It's possible the display lists aren't being capped reliably. If it's a case of too many objects in the same horizontal zone, you could be overrunning the ram set aside for the Display List, making it read parts of the next zone as well. You can try adding "set zoneprotection on" at the start of the program to see if it clears things up. Additionally/alternatively, you can use the commands to allocate additional ram for the display lists. -
Digital purchases *can* be recovered from a different Switch if needed.
Mord replied to Austin's topic in Nintendo Switch
I assume you mean you want a save backup/copy function rather than just a transfer from system to system? As the latter is technically possible already although you have to download the tool from the eshop. (The tool available is just for transferring saves between two functioning Switches, as it deletes the original copy.) -
A7800 - "new" 7800 emulator, tons of controls, very accurate
Mord replied to RevEng's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
How many people spammed your message box asking to buy it outright after you posted? You could organize a small coding competition if you're crazy. Set a date for say January 1st for submissions, set the maximum rom size to 48k. Select a group of finalists by the end of January for the community to vote on. -

More work than I want for starting a file. Particularly when I'll be compiling, running, editting, compiling, running, in quick sequence as I debug. In the name of laziness, a friend told me based on the way mame.ini files work I can just copy the rom folder containing a7800.zip, etc to my project directory. Then run a7800 a7800 -cart <filename> and it would run. And... it did! It's something about mame.ini files being current-directory, so if you launch from a different directory it uses the mame defaults. In the spirit of being lazy, I'm going to further add the a7800 command to a "start.bat" file and toss that in the project directory too. Either way, I think I'm finally back up and running for 7800basic coding. -

That's the unusual thing though. I've already got the additional files copied over into a7800's folder. Regarding the complete path, should that be necessary if I'm launching a7800 from the same directory the rom is in? I added a7800's folder to Win10's path. Also regarding that software list, how can I edit that to add/remove games from it?
