FYI - I found Kobold v3.5 (it may actually be v3.5.1) translated to English here:

    https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=441860#p441860

This is only a patch. The full version with all bonus utilities is there: https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=394303#p394303 . But you need to overwrite it with the file from the previous link 😉

And yes, it is v 3.51. The only change compared to 3.5 is a Y2K fix.

And I checked audio data on sides B of floppies. It is same as in eng. version on all 3 floppy images, while by fr. original (STX images at atarimania) floppy 2 and 3 have some smaller differences.   And real hard work was done by FM.

    No shit Sherlock. ?

Just like your 2MB rip off, actually. But at least, I gave credit where it was due. And mine runs on 512K.

Just for the record, this is my own hack attempt from way back in 2008, spread free of charge (of course) and I DON'T want ParanoidLittleMan/Ppera/Whatever his nickname is, to use it for his own financial benefit.

BAT.ZIP  -  Does not respond on mouse when title screen is opened and 'Creation' scrolls up (should be able to start it or change to 'Jeu' (game) . On Mega STE. This is English v. and needs 2 MB RAM min. Music goes via YM , no need for MV16 .

Interesting. How did you patch the replay rout? Do you have some sources?

And I guess it's the censored version?

I cannot get Venus The Fly Trap to run on either of my systems. I have tried running Peter's HD adaptation and also off floppy.

    My systems : Mega ST2 4mb / TOS 1.4 - I Tried Peter's HD version with ASC2STF( Peter's Driver ) AND Floppy version - No joy.

                         1040STe 4mb / TOS 2.06 - Same.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

Does the floppy version run without any hard drive attached? And which version (cracked or original)?

Also, as a general rule, 4 MB + TOS 2.0x is the worst possible combination when it comes to games: some will crash because of too much RAM, others because of that particular TOS version. But not that game, it should run on both.

I'm trying to use HyperView 0.4.0 on my 4meg 1040 STe. When I start HYP_VIEW.APP I end up with three bombs.  I tried renaming the configuration file so it wouldn't be found, but that made no difference. I'm running TOS 1.62 in Medium resolution.

Any idea's why this is happening?  What is the "go to" app for viewing HYP files on the Atari ST these days?

HypView needs Windialog to be installed in your AUTO folder, or a multitasking OS line MagiC or FreeMint in order to run.

Already have it, but i'm looking for an HDD version (copy/paste doesn't work for DMA).

Indeed. If I remember correctly the game loads the sound data from side B, that data is not in files (BAT works the same way).

The only ways I know how to edit GEM resource files (*.RSC) are with programs that run on your Atari machine (or in an emulator, of course).

But, is there any modern software out there which would let me edit them outside of the Atari environment? Combined with m68k-atari-mint-gcc, I'm hoping to be able to cross-compile an entire project and iterate upon the resource file entirely from, say, my Mac.

Edit: I should specify I'm looking specifically for a graphical app.

Of course there is one: ORCS.

Download it at Homepage Thorsten Otto - Downloads (tho-otto.de)

However there is no Mac version, only native TOS and Win32/64.

Let see little recent history:  I started thread about new UltraSatan available in plexy/transparent case . End Mr. Polite/aka Tillek wrote there that I presented that device only to advertise my hard disk driver SW - sure sir, that was really polite and based on ... what ?  I will say mild word: shallowness. But there can be more of it, maybe biased fanboy of some crew ?  And interesting: did not notice that I promoted concurrent Atari Flash card adapter, since myself selling ACSI-CF adapter, which is btw. my original design . http://atari.8bitchip.info/acsicfafs.html

So, personal attack for sure. It is not forbidden here to promote own products to sale.

In little later thread Mr. Polite was very offended because I called his writing shallow. And yes, it was it. Especially for me, who knows much more about that topic.

Why I wrote that 'stoopid' - because was called lame from man who really has no clue - and I answered with good arguments about  "don't make money using someone else's work." .

Certainly argument about manufacturing, selling (so making money) with UltraSatan was best - because it is open source HW project, Jookie self made firmware too.   And of course, Mr. Polite skipped it completely - as it is always done  by people don't caring for facts, truth, or just basic equality between people . Mr. Polite is the worst - double standards, dragging out of context, playing judge ...

While his knowledge even with English lang. seems hmmm ...   I wrote 'stoopid' with intention, and it is not me who first used it in that form. 2 o-s are long u - got it now ?

Btw. recommending google translator ? Huahahha .

Btw. I have 2 native languages, and I learned both parallel (Hu and Sr). And I think that it was good, not only because environment - where population was approx. 50-50% in those 2 nations, but to start understand some things better, to see different ways of expression.

"Pushing out of forums" - well, first time I hear that word about it. I guess Mr. Polite would be good dictator, pardon, efficient dictator - they are newer good.  And why ? Because he says that people leaving forums because of me ?  Yeah, another Cyrano Jones - coming with serious accusement without any argument.

I'm always nice with fair people, those who don't insult me. May happen that I do some critic, corrections without much leading blah,  because that is waste of time and space. And those egoists will get insulted anyway.

More history: AF - dictator MugUK wanted that I  act there by his unfair conditions, what I refused. And he called me in 1 PM "paranoid little man" - now dear atariage people, you know origin of my username here ?

Exxos forum: exxos wanted to dictate there that I write only nice things, not about some problems. I made some complexer SW work for him, on his request, and he just totally forgot about it . And overall, what goes on that forum - he uses members as free developing labor force - see thread about IDE adapter, for instance.  At the end, I abandoned forum on my own will, posted about it there. So was not banned - or more accurate - exxos deleted that my post and banned me ?

" it's hard to find anything where you aren't argumentative and rude." - hmm - argumentative - indeed I'm in some Atari forum - because it is that I know many things much better than average user.  Sometimes it may look rude, and I usually getting mad a bit after someone pushes silly things over and over again. Or just posts without reading what is written in thread.

Will not comment final paragraph of Mr. Polite.  Btw. that 'segg...' is obsolete, and today youth does not use it at all. Hearing insults here ? They exist for sure, but habit here is to say them behind subject's back, on safe distance.

Final words in this reply:  I saw recently best shirt text, and it was on younger girl (like 18 years), something like (sorry for own translation, google needs to improve it's translator a lot yet): If you don't understand what I say, it doesn't mean that it is stoopid.

And moron just continues with his ridiculous arguments.

I don't sell games. I gave help to many of new game authors - mostly because of my experience in it, and TOS knowledge. And imagine what - I did not ask money for it. They published games as they wanted, and that's all about. Ah, this reminds me on that some new games are not free. I did not deal with such games, and you will not find their adaptations on my site - because real bad thing is not asking little money for service (in this case it would be less than 1/100 Eur for 1 game), but distributing new SW for free, or whatever charge without permission of author.

So, claim that it harms and dismotivates  new SW creation, releasing is total idiocy - nobody is forced to use hard disk adapted version from PLM - and funnily, they are free for DL as single game ZIP on my pages.  DL-ing compilation with 1400 games is just an option, to make it easier and faster to people - and that required extra work - as said weeks, to put it all together and check. 10 Euros are asked mostly for that extra work.

Only shallow people and notorious haters can come with argument of 'selling games'.  When I will want to do it will be priced like in old pirate times - 5 bucks for floppy with 6 games. "Oh, you want 1400 game in single DL. No problems, you can get it for 499 bucks, or as special today offer - if order it today it will be only 399 $ - because I love my customers so much ! "

Everyone can DL new releases from sites of original authors. So, how on Hell some game compilation can do harm ?

Funny how much I was accused for 'killing' this small Atari scene.  From people who already abandoned scene - like D-Bug about decade ago (or their mindless fans). Or ijor - who claimed similar thing, just because I wrote the truth. This reminds me on silly case at AF, with one of AL members, he asked me to not write negative comment about new game release (actually finished Jaguar X220 or something like that). All what I wrote is that it looks very good, but gameplay is not really good. It was actually not so negative, and if on some forum you can not write your opinion about new game release (good or not so good, or even negative) then that forum is bullshit. And actually they care more for self and their circle, than for the truth.  What is of course behind posts of cb too.

LOL. Another random and useless rant. Thanks for the good laugh! ?

This is ridiculous, how some people doing this strictly on personal base. Of course AL member did not react on my note about Marcer's selling of games on DVDs, or his using of other people work without permission. No, asking 10 Euros for making available and playable 1400 old games on modern storage is something most immoral thing on this planet .

And to add that Atariforce aka cb is D-Bug fan (hey, are they those who sold pirated games on floppies before Internet time, and name of crew was automation ? ) .  Total clear case of double standards, personal bias.  Please, write here more, embarass self more with repeating your idiotic comments.

Interesting that now we have new books about whole piracy scene, mostly years when Atari ST, Amiga were well sold. Are pirates presented as some heroes in them ? I guess yes, in big part. And of course, as it is always, they think that did useful thing for community.

Well, the truth is always somewhere between - saying that every pirate copy means 1 sale of SW less is overstatement - surely those who bought pirate copy did it because: was no other way (like Eastern Eu. countries), could not afford to buy original for like 100 DEM (I paid Microprose F1 GP 120 DEM in 1992, for instance) .

My comment about AL advert posted above: yes, all those who did something for AL are super self sacrificing heroes (like today medical workers fighting against covid 'to the last gasp' - and we know the result now - there will be more waves, more vaccinations, more money earned by industry ...) . They worked countless hours, while someone who made self more games than all them together wants only money for games which are made by others ?

Piracy is piracy even if they don't ask money for it. The point is not so much in earning money with it, but in harming legal sales of SW . Or movies, music etc ..

I apologize to all SW, game authors for doing this - keeping their old games still alive. For making corrections, improvements in games (what is btw. usually forbidden, there are notes in some cases, like 'only unmodified files' ) . Well, there were actually couple cases that authors said thank you to me for it.

    43iv8l.jpg

... To answer Darklord's question, I don't think it is just a matter of money, but more a matter of consequences. He (PLM) can sell whatever game he wants, I actually don't care. But who would ever be motivated to release new software (specifically games) for free when they see it might end up behind a paywall just because someone spent an hour patching it? Because it is safe to assume that those free games he admits selling are probably all those fairly recent free games that were on his website, released by currently active people. Can you imagine the demotivation? That's how you kill an already rather small scene.

Really ? 'Selling' games ? There are many freeware ones included. The service is for what people pay. Should I add note like: " ... must own original to have right to play this 'conversions/paches' "- like it stays at WHDload ? There is no copyright for tose old games - it is abandonware.

Internet is full with sites holding image files (ROMs as some say) of 'those game' - for instance Atari Legend site. You are just a hypocrite .

Ah, and what about your buddy at AL Marcer ? He sold DVDs with plenty of games. And added even my work, without asking my permission.

I made over 1400 games to be usable in much easier, reliable way, with modern storage, with some added extras, over 13 years. And it is not over, while some others abandoned it. It's just that life is now harder than was 13 years ago. Sorry that I need to eat and living somewhere ...

Newsflash: selling pirated software is illegal, no matter how many hours you spent making your compilations. And selling freeware games? That's not only illegal, it's immoral.

And you should check the definitions of copyright and abandonware because you obviously don't have a clue.

PS: lots of menu disks are available at AL thanks to countless hours spent by people gathering, dumping the disks and fixing the faulty ones, all free of charge of course! Thanks for the advertising!

  14. I just checked the link from where you downloaded that version of Mint, and indeed absolutely everything is commented in the config file... No wonder it doesn't behave as you expected ?

EDIT: it is actually no big deal, Mint is using its builtin default settings. But you will have to tweak them. Try the other way around, uncomment the  FS_VFAT line without modifying it so it doesn't use VFAT for drive C.

And uncomment #GEM=u:/c/mint/xaaes/xaloader.prg if you want a graphical interface (you will need a desktop too).

    • Thanks 1
  15. 1-18 is not the last version. Latest binaries for v 1.19 used to be available on bintray.com, but not anymore.

There are several vfat settings in the mint.cnf file. Try to modifiy them, especially the line :

    FS_VFAT=C,D,E,...

and make sure your C drive is not declared in there (or comment the whole line and test the modification).
