1. IIRC one of the prototypes that has been found is actually working (meaning only regular Jag carts, nothing Jag II), while the other (IIRC, again) is just a chipset without processors.
2. I'd buy. I had a chance at an RP proto last year, but it was horribly incomplete so I passed on the opportunity. I'd love to play a real version of it, assuming it doesn't play like crap.
3. Brett Hull Hockey - On CD and Cart. B&C carried copies of the cart they made. Not authorized, IIRC. Commando - No. Dactyl Joust - No. Just video. Formula Racing - The one by Teque? Could be World Tour Racing. If so, many of the prototypes are in Jay Smith's Extremist Packs. Varuna's Forces - B&C made copies of what was left of this game. Wayne Gretzky NHL Hockey - No. Black ICE\ White Noise - About 23 zillion protos were found in varying stages of development. See Jay Smith. He included a version on his Extremist Packs, and there's a different version for download somewhere with the grace of one of the original programmers. Deathwatch - No. Magic Carpet - No. Dune Racer - No. Alien vs Predator: The CD - Artwork only, IIRC. Mind-ripper - No. Batman Forever - No. Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball - No. Mortal Kombat 3 - There's plenty of jokes out there about this one. No. Dante - PC demo only, included on Jay Smith's Extremist Packs About the Extremist Packs, they were made in very limited quantity so unless you see one on eBay they're no longer available. Basically they were a series of discs containing playable/watchable demos and prototypes of released and unreleased games.
4. Or giant screen light gun games. My sons and I love the House Of The Dead and Virtua Cop games. How many light gun games have come out on this generation of home consoles? Is it two or three? 1006537 To close the coffin and bury it under mounds of dirt, we have Xbox Live replicating the "quarter trail" arcade experience, starting with Street Fighter II. Call your place in line just like the good old days, except there's, uh, not really anyone next to you. And there is seriously a dearth of light gun games. We've got guitars, taiko drums, and congas, but not nearly enough light gun games anymore.
5. Do you have a date on your Fatal Fury at all? Mine's got the same cover as yours, except for two things: 1. It says Preview Copy on mine, rather than Review 2. Dated: 11-3-94 on the cover It's also a WIP for sure, as there are graphics glitches and other differences between mine and the released version. It's pretty neat. I'd be interested in knowing more about yours if you ever have a chance. As for BHA, the fact that it says "Bignet" on it leads me to believe it's the American version. Do keep in touch; it's great knowing there are many other protos and review copies out there.
6. I would inquire with Adol (found on eBay and DP boards) about Force Striker Alpha and Burning Fists (two titles for the same game at diff. stages of dev, unreleased ultimately) but my chances of getting him to dump any of them are slim to none. Luckily, I do have CD copies of 7 other prototypes floating around here, inc. a Sonic CD beta (American, but with the Japanese tracks) I sold off long ago.
7. There are simply so many factors that it really is a game in itself -- of chance, of popularity, of release status... Many variables. I personally collect for the investigative opportunities, but if I sell them, I do like trying to recoup the money I may have spent on them. Doing it purely for investment is a bad idea.
8. I have been a collector of SegaCD and MegaCD prototypes for years. Back a few years ago, they'd go up to $75-$100 apiece if you had the right titles, but I recently picked up four for $100 -- the market's pretty much flat. I am still buying, but not for value's sake. The only one I ever sold for a huge amount of money was a Captain Tsubasa prototype, sold to a guy in Dubai for about $300. I used to have some unreleased MegaCD titles (Burning Fists, Force Striker Alpha), but even they didn't go for much when I sold them. Only $50/ea to Adol. Kinda sucks, but I have more fun looking through them than anything else. I have a Fatal Fury Special Review Copy and Mortal Kombat proto on the SegaCD end, and about 4 MegaCD protos. Used to have 16. If you're ever interested in offloading through trades/sales, hit me up with a message sometime. I'm a huge Blackhole Assault/Micronet fan (oddly enough, I own every released version) so I've got a special interest in that one.
9. I finally got to check your version out. I haven't been able to check out the B&C version, so I'm not entirely sure if there any differences there, but it's definitely not the same as mine.
10. You can buy the B&C version (which is probably parallel or later than mine) at http://www.myatari.com. Sometimes they also advertise them on eBay for about $30-40. Or you can use emulation through Handy and a copy of the ROM, which is all over the place (including here at AA).
11. Offer has been accepted.
12. No, it only exists in prototype form (which you can buy!) and its about 50% complete at best. You can't be the alien and the missions or enemies havn't been implemented properly yet. Still freekin impressive though! 997431 I do have the prototype where one can be the Alien (i.e., not the B&C version -- different version entirely). I think I've posted screens here before (or in the Prototypes forum). It's a pretty neat proto to mess with (in any version), and a wonderful example of what the Lynx could have been. Lynx AvP Screens w/Alien, Non-B&C Prototype
13. One problem with the PCE is that games like Sapphire and Dracula X have been counterfeited as well over the years; it makes finding real copies quite difficult if you don't know what you're looking for.
14. I actually can't confirm Worms, but I personally saw Iron Soldier II (CD), Zero 5, World Tour Racing, Breakout 2000 and Towers II in an EB Games. In fact, after seeing them is what got me started in collecting the Jaguar, as I had until that point been under the impression it had never come out. I even remember the day and location of the store I saw those in since it was an interesting experience. Technically, I believe it was an "Electronics Boutique" store, or a "Software, Etc." or something like that. It's definitely an EB Games now. 995683 I remember every release but Worms being in stores, so I'm not certain it qualifies. Might be worth checking some JEO mags from the "Golden Age" to determine this. Edit: Actually, I'm almost positive it never made it to retail. Very confident, in fact, that it never touched the shelf at an EB or Software, Etc. I remember trying to locate one for a while and all that came up positive were the other TG releases. I ended up buying IS2 and World Tour Racing in an Electronics Boutique. Last copies they had.
15. It has to go as a lot ,I don't have time at the moment to split it up and i don't want to let people down with delays.I'm offering it in this forum aimed at Jaguar collectors rahter than anywhere else. The only alternative is to stick it on E-bay..Thanks 996997 Most collectors will already have some, if not most of the "commercial" releases. You might want to consider selling the higher-end items separately, as you'll surely get more bites that way.
16. Have you noticed: The dustballs have Mexican accents, the rats have New York brawler accents...? I'm not quite sure what they're trying to say about those people with those comparisons. edit: I read the entire thread, and a bit late to the party.
17. I'm curious. What are the toughest Lynx protos to find, and who has 'em? I've posted about the ones I have in an earlier post in this forum, but while I'm very familiar with the Jaguar protos (Jay Smith and I talked quite a bit on the ones he and I have) I hear nary a peep about the Lynx protos usually. For the record, I've got: AvP (w/playable Alien, 12.17.1993, Rev. 2 board) Daemonsgate (1992 CES Version, Rev. 2 board) Lemmings (02.23.1993, Rev. 2 board) Warbirds (alternate "illustrated" cutscenes, Rev. 4 board) Can anyone shed some light on the Lynx proto collecting community and what's out there?
18. Hey man, Merry Christmas to you and yours as well! And have a safe and Happy New Year if I don't pop up again until 2006.
19. Here, Here! Couldn't agree more. I write with passion, which can be a flaw, so I can see your point. I too have owned a Jag since day 1. I have one of the first 100 Pal Jag's! I have a near complete collection and have had games published for the Sinclair Spectrum and Atari ST, hopefully a Jag game too one day. 987536 I've got #48 in Colorado. Well, I did, until it was stolen and my mother bought me a new one for Christmas the following year. I used to have all the Songbird releases but ended up selling them off during a financial crunch and currently cannot afford Total Carnage, or I'd get a copy. I liked it on the CD32. Perhaps after the holidays when my budget's back to normal. By the way, thanks for the clarification, and hey, I totally understand passionate writing... I've been guilty of it once or twice myself. Everyone does, I think. There's room for all of us in this community, even if there are disagreements along the way. No need for all this animosity to continue. Let's make this a Merry Christmas and make amends, and all look forward to a wonderful 2006 for not only the Jaguar, but for the entire legacy of Atari and videogaming as a whole. AA and JSII, show each other some <3.
20. LOL. True, that. (Double True!) The fans are fervently passionate, of course. The DC community's come close, but they've still got a few years yet to go. And I agree with your assessment of 99% of fans. They just want to have fun, sans drama. They're the ones who drive sales of new games, explore its library, and generally have a great time soaking in everything Jaguar. I've never understood why bad apples give themselves megaphones; it begins to rot the outer edges of the fruit.
21. Not sure you read my post properly. This was the whole point I was making! Ok you've worded it differently but I was not trying to fan any flames. My opinion of Battlesphere is just that, my opinion and many others would agree. The fact is, truth be told, TBird helped ruin the Jag community by ripping people off (and still is) I am stating my wish to build bridges and bring our community together, just like we all did at JagFest UK. 987505 I realize the point you're making, but the way you presented it (assigning blame) kind of deflated the overall message. Be a bit more neutral, in my opinion. Understand, I've been a Jaguar owner since day one back in late 1993, and a part of the community for a decade (yes, 10 years now). It's never been this cutthroat against their own members in that time. Hell, if anyone remembers "Sinclair" (aka "Sinclap") from USENET's r.g.v.a. back in the day, that was the good old-fashioned ribbing I was used to. He loved to rip on he Jaguar, and I loved watching the hordes rip him a new a$$hole right back. None of this "you !@#!@#!@# suck you #$@#$" kind of thing internally toward Jaguar owners/community members that I've been seeing more of as the latest releases trickle out. It's really disheartening. If you don't like someone, don't talk to them. Don't listen to them. Don't feed who you may perceive to be a troll in your opinion. If you don't like someone's business practices, nobody's forcing you to buy the game. It's really that simple. Much love for the community surrounding my #1 gaming system, but jeers to the people continuing this ongoing "Feud of Futility".
22. You know, if everyone involved laid down their bayonets pointed at one another and picked up controllers, everyone might have a high score in their favorite game by now. Such a pointless waste of time, this bickering. It's not like there's 40,000 Jaguar fans here, so sticking together and celebrating all releases (expensive or not, it's always your choice to buy or not to buy) is probably the wiser choice in the long run. Just my $0.02 on the entire matter. I find it rather futile, and posts that fan the flames such as this (knocking BattleSphere's quality while defending Total Carnage) do no service to any "community". Actually, truth be told, I find you're doing no better than the very people you're railing against. Try to mend animosities, and let's all have a fun time with our Jags.
