Hello...I never expected to be posting here, but I just picked up an Atari 800XL and I think this guy had no idea what he was doing...because he also gave me an Apple IIc for 50 total. Photo below. It has no power cord. Questions: 1. Is it easy to locate a power supply for a reasonable price? 2. Is there any sort of multi/flash/hard drive option for this computer? 3. Can this plug into a CRT tv? Thanks!
-
I think you guys got me to my answer. Turned it on for the first time today...ready to rock. Thanks!

Carlsson, which would you recommend for the greater breadth of gaming "fun" and compat.? I'm still learning these extensions and how they can be converted. I do have a physical drive and quite a few floppies, and I don't mind running from them...but I'm not sure if there is a way to transfer info from cart and disk and vice versa through the C64...
-
What about these Atarimax flash carts? They seem inexpensive, but I'm not exactly sure how they work/what they can run vs. a SIO2SD.
-
Will the SIO$##% run all programs? Also, can cart programs be run from a floppy? If I can just transfer PC to Floppy with that APE program, that may work...I don't need a ton of bells and whistles, just trying to figure out what is best.
-
I guess in the alternative, I know it can be tricky to get images from PC to C64...but I'm open to that as well.
-
OK, so I'm trying to get all of this straight I think: 1. Easy Flash ONLY does carts? 2. SD2IEC can do only floppies? 3. The more expensive options can do all. The unit I purchased comes with both a floppy and a cassette drive. I'm just trying to figure out the cheapest way to run as many games/programs as possible. I'm not opposed to using the original format, and I think I'm getting a significant amount of floppies with programs I won't want. Were most of the games carts or discs, and were they often available in both formats? I'm lost on it! I think I have tape covered though, heck I'll record a real one if I need to (I have like 100 blanks)
-
OK, well now I came across some more funds...so I have a question now to you guys as to what you think is the best modern alternative flash/USB/SD alternative for the A8? Like a specific cart or drive emulator to run programs? I think I may end up getting three computers in a week...YOW.

Would you believe I originally paid $1.95 for it, 1 year ago? -
Colecovision auctions including rare games
nd2003grad replied to nd2003grad's topic in Auction Central
Two days remain on these auctions, have a lot of Bally Arcade/Astrocade games up as well...good luck! -
Well, I came across a C64 situation I couldn't refuse (whole lotta crap for $60, even if shipping was painful--but I know it works) and then was offered something off of marketplace here that I could NOT refuse (Amiga 500 with upgrade and extras shipped for $150!), so my Atari days are now in the future--but at least I know a whole lot about it now from you all.

Good evening! I've got some Colecovision auctions going, including some quite rare games. These include: 1. Alcazar 2. Sector Alpha 3. Super Cross Force 4. Spectron 5. Gateway to Apshai (with bizarre white and black only label) 6. Quest for Quintana Roo 7. Dukes of Hazzard 8. Rock N Bolt 9. Boulder Dash I also have a bunch of commons with near-mint condition manuals. Hope somebody wants these! http://www.ebay.com/sch/wolfgang123/m.html?item=112034925415&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Thanks! Clay

I didn't realize it was only 16K...guess that answers that.

Pre-crash systems are slowly being forgotten.

May I suggest you try our high score club? That's how I'm learning a lot of the games (I got my bally in January). There are a few real interesting games in there, including in BASIC. Treasure Cove is a very unique original that is probably the best looking Bally game. -

I think this is a fantastic idea. -
Well, now that I got some birthday money I'm seriously reconsidering this. I have one more question--what do you guys think of the 400? Is it technically inferior to the 800 other than the keyboard and the two cart slots? Because it really has an adorable clunky awkwardness that I find appealing!

I've got about $150 to spend towards a mix and match of any of these systems. If you have any that you want to unload, please let me know. Looking to go real cheap on C64/800XL. I understand Amigas are much more.

Colecovision Roller Control on Atari?
nd2003grad replied to nd2003grad's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
For anyone who reads this, I have finally got both the roller and the expansion unit on the Coleco, tried Centipede, and it DOES INDEED WORK! -
I have to say that I agree with both of you to some degree. I have a sentimental thing for computers, but for me it's more of a "what might have been" since we didn't upgrade from a 286 computer until about 1996. The lag behind what was going on with some of these systems even is atrocious. I have the big consoles of the era (Atari 2600, INTV, Coleco, and NES), but I'm actually more excited about having the Bally/Astrocade due to the incredible quality of SOME of the games. It's too bad the whole library isn't like that. But, Phoenix, that's why I have never wanted a Channel F or a Odyssey 2. I don't feel like I need it ALL. I have to say though, the "look" of that 800 calls to me loudly.
-
You all are a very good resource for this stuff...I have a bunch of Coleco things I'm going to sell to fund this, so we'll see what happens! Isn't the net fantastic that I can get help from both NZ and the UK? Can you imagine this back in that day? I'd wager that only a tiny percent of people locally even know what these things are.
-
The problem is I like all sorts of games, but I lean toward the Colecovision style of games--arcade translation. The other half of me leans heavily towards RPG's. I even loved text adventures as a kid. The more I learn, the more I feel like I have to make a choice due to all the flashcarts and peripherals. I love the LOOK and the NAME of the 800 particularly (I even like the bizarre retro juice-box friendly 400), but the C64 keeps pulling me towards it. Maybe this has something to do with my deep desire to buy an Amiga as it seems easier to me (I'll probably get in trouble for this) that it is quite superior to the ST. That will probably complete my collection, but I don't think I'd ever be AVERSE to gettin an 8 bit Atari. I just know most of the games I've seen are superior in multiple ways on the Commodore.

How about those little SD 1541 drives from Poland? http://www.ebay.com/itm/C64c-Style-SD2IEC-Commodore-1541-Disk-Drive-Emulator-SD-Card-Reader-C64-C128-VIC-/330917399751 1541 Ultimate is pretty expensive, but I am guessing deservedly so.
-
I'm a console guy, but I'm about to get a C64. My question is this: does C64 require a different sd or multi option for carts, tapes, and disks? Or, is one unit able to handle everything? This is so much more complicated than, say, a harmony cart...

Proof (he's holding a Bally controller):
