Adam--I fired up Ye Olde Bally to try out Down the Trench...the link leads to Space Gauntlet. I wasn't able to track it down on Balleyalley...do you have a good link?

Well, perhaps I'll never figure this out. Yesterday I moved all my consoles to another "cave." Suddenly, the Bally works and powers on flawlessly. Temperamental little machine!!!!
-
I just flip the 2 switches on the back of the sd2iec to change drive number.
My understanding is there are many, many models of this unit. Mine has two buttons on top and nothing on the back.

Thanks all...yes, I finally got this to work! Thanks carlsson, as always. Seem like a lot of people have posted the "almost" correct lines.

Thank you good sir, I'll try this tonight and if I keep having trouble I'll come back with that.

I think it might be mentioned in the owners manual, if you have access to that, but here's an on-line mention of how to do it:
Thanks, Seagull...but I am looking for a more temporary fix just for transfer.
-
Yes, that's what I'm trying to do...either/or...but I can't seem to get this to happen on either device. I've got CBM Command...which seems excellent...but I can't seem to figure out how to set the SD2IEC to anything other than "8."

I'm driving myself NUTS over trying to do this. I've tried several programs, but nothing seems to work. This mainly stems from me having no Earthly clue as to how to switch my 1541 to a different device number. I've tried all sorts of command lines found online to no avail. There are programs floating around, but all links are dead. Anyone have any idea what stupid thing I may be doing? I know how to do it outside of this device issue.

That is such a strange problem! When I talk to Ken this week I'll ask him about this.
I agree; Blast Droids isn't great. Or, good. It is a finished game, but it seems like it was never play-tested at all. We still need to talk about this game for Astrocast #8.
The point of this High Score Club, for me, is just to play the games. I've played the Astrocade a lot this week because I tested every game/program on Ken Lill's UltiMulticart. I was checking the multicart list for Ken, because he'd updated it. I ended up playing some games that I'd never played before, which sorta shocked me.
Someone local to me (about an hour away) contacted me because he'd listened to a few episodes of the Astrocast. We'll be meeting and getting together on Tuesday. He will be playing the Astrocade for the very first time! I'm looking forward to being able to introduce the system to someone who is already into classic gaming.
Adam
That all sounds really cool to me. Say hi to Ken for me. I don't understand the problem at all as once it's ready it functions as well or better than ever before, and certainly better with the new TV I have. I just don't want it to konk out.
Did you play the extra RAM games? I'm very curious about these.

After waiting about 30 minutes for my Bally to "warm up (it seems to function find once this happens, I have no clue)," I was able to do an intense hour or so of catching up that essentially gets me a participation medal haha. Most of these games it was my first time playing and it shows. Some I only played a couple of rounds with. The only one I didn't really care for was "Blast Droids." Man that's a frustrating title. I had played some of these but never uploaded anything, and some of my scores are hilariously low. Photos soon.

Hey Adam, what is the tentative expiration date for this round?
-
Wow...I'll save up in my piggy bank I guess...!!! Sounds like ST is even more expensive than Amiga to get into...maybe I'll try and snag a 1200 first.
I was that kid with the DOS speaker...haha

I've had some interesting troubles with my unit, but I don't really want to do anything right away as I know how delicate these damn things can be. I really love my Bally, but it's definitely the most troublesome and unreliable of all my classic systems--and I have a few!
Lately, my Bally turns on to a blank screen. It is kind of the opposite of the classic issue, as it seems to have to "warm up" for an increasing amount of time since I've had this problem. Generally, once that time passes it works find. However, I did have Incredible Wizard lock up after some play time and then reset sent it back to the black screen. I turned it off immediately.
Unit is cooled by a laptop fan. There was no significant heat on the cover. Anyone familiar with this issue? I know Adam and I have chatted briefly about it...I'm only comfortable with very minor repairs.

And I thought I had it bad...

So, I started this thread almost a year ago. In the end, I purchased three classic computers:
1. C64
2. Atari 800 XL
3. An Amiga 500
I love all three for differing reasons. I'm fascinated by the Amiga, as may not be surprising.
I still have a desire to eventually purchase an ST. However, they seem much harder to come by than an Amiga (even a 1200) and it seems the necessary model is at least an STe to get the full experience. Is this true? Should they be near-impossible and expensive to boot?
Not in the position to get one right now, but wondering...
-
Since this thread hasn't been finalized yet, I'm wondering if the catch-up season can be extended for a week or so? I haven't had a chance to play and now I'll have some time...16 hour holiday shifts are killing me!

My Amiga knowledge is starting to get a bit rusty with age. I bought my A1000 about 6 months after the release. I remember that quite a few of the early EA games would only work with Kickstart 1.1. I kept Kickstart 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 disks beside my A1000 at all times just to allow some of the older titles to work. Some games would refuse to run if you had more than 512 KB of RAM.
I'm completely out of touch with the various utilities to load Kickstart images. Can any of them load Kickstart 1.1?
Yes, this is exactly what I'm trying to figure out too!!! I have a feeling 1.3 and possibly 1.2 aren't low enough.

Update--I've gotten an ADF of Tude delivered, that may work out...but advice is always welcome.
-
Update on this--I've been unable to get this to work correctly, despite learning a lot about softkick. Most of what I find concerns how to softkick a 1200 machine to act like a 500, I'm trying to figure out how to kick a 3.1 KS A500 to preferably a 1.2 or lower. So consider this a bump and maybe someone will know wth I should do!
-
I can't wait for the ketchup round--yes I can't think of it without the silly pun. Been so busy.
-
I guess the main thing I want to do is figure out how to wire I guess the "A" or "C" button to up so as to be able to jump more easily, etc.
-
Thanks guys...I'll get to it when I have a chance. Label damage is definitely something I've been trying to avoid at all costs as this is a real nice specimen as well.

HSC02, Round 2: Star Battle / Down the Trench

I tried to get super fancy and load trench into a Atari 800 XL computer on real hardware. This was not successful, but it did load me up to a basic screen. Here is my photographic evidence.
