  1. Adam--thank you a ton. We'll make it!!!! If you all don't know, you can call me Clay.
  2. It took me quite some time and being RIGHT ON the lower right square to finally get it...I'm sure Adam is doing it in a lot less than 27 turns!
  3. Thank you, it turns out my 2 month-old has a rare liver disease and received major surgery a couple of days ago that basically re-routed his entire system. 80% chance he'll eventually need a liver transplant. My little stress-reliever? Yes, being right here with you guys playing Bally.
  4. I may not be able to play much because my son is in the hospital, but I did give it a whirl. I was very surprised with the pits, I found it extremely challenging and addictive.
  5. There was a text adventure called "Enchanted Castle" that was a great father-son bonding thing for me back in the late 80s. I'd recommend it if you can handle text and liked Castle Adventure.
  6. I think part of what made me doubt the Atari was one arcade port...Wizard of Wor. As you can see from my icon, I'm a big Bally Arcade/Astrocade fan, so I'm familiar with one of the very best ports of this game. I found the Atari one to be ugly and simple, but the C64 one to be magnificent. HOWEVER...it appears that I didn't look at enough titles. I can tell you certainly that I bought these computers (Amiga, C64, Atari) in that order of interest. After holding and seeing the actual machines, that interest (for now) has reversed, largely due to the major complications with the ol' 500. However, I never thought I'd get into the non-console side of this hobby. I was mistaken; this is great fun and a little more interactive with involvement. Waiting to find time to hook up my three modern devices to these machines.
  7. Emulation definitely sold me on Commodore 64. I wasn't as impressed with Atari, but I took everyone's advice. I have only played Centipede on it, but I really do love it so far and it's a solid machine. I'm excited to be an owner! I wish I could say emulation got me into Amiga, but it didn't. I found Winuae to be very difficult for a novice to work with...but YouTube really sold me on all three in the end.
  8. Yup. I hadn't even heard of scart until my Amiga adventure.
  9. It's OK, I tried with the TV and it didn't work. They did give me a incompatible signal error.
  10. I looked at the photo you had sent me and I already had a watch on that auction, haha! That monitor looks pretty good to me. I'm still interested though if anyone thinks I should try the TV, and/or if I need a "storage" disk... I'm guessing I'll end up getting a monitor like this one though.
  11. I need some serious advice. I've read a whole lot about monitors and TVs with the Amiga 500. I recently acquired one from goaltoss (may his name be forever praised). I currently have three monitors: a very old (not 15khz) flat, a very old (undetermined) HP CRT, and a flat screen TV I bought for 10 bucks (with all inputs). I also bought the VGA/RGB adaptor. I need serious advice as stated! First, I'm in NTSC world. I know that makes things worse right away. I want the Amiga for game play. I'm fortunate to have a store nearby that sells small TVs and old monitors for pennies (read 5-20 bucks). I went there today but no dice on a 15khz multisynch, but DARN CLOSE on the numbers. I tried the first monitor stupidly. It did nothing. I tried the CRT. It displayed scrambled and emitted a nice high-pitched noise. I turned it off right away. I did not try the TV because I'm relying on it for a C64 and a 800XL. I can't afford something super expensive, and finding a 1084 locally seems unlikely despite being in a pretty big city. I understand some TV's use 15khz. Not sure on this one; manual doesn't say. I also understand 520s suck. What do you all suggest? I really want to use this thing, but since I just had a baby I can be pretty patient. I have tested the 500 and it works just fine on monochrome. Also...the instructions for the adaptor say to use my AmigaOS "storage" disk. I don't have one of these (got Kickstart and Workbench), is this an issue? Also have a Gotek ready to...um...go.
  12. YES, I love the HSC's...I'm very active in the Bally one. Will be doing that soon!
  13. I thought I'd update you--I did end up getting an 800XL, and I haven't used it much yet..I'm waiting on my SIO2SD. I basically got it for free!!!!! I wasn't going to buy another computer, but I couldn't pass it up.
  14. Thanks, all! I think I'm ready to go.
  15. Thanks, all...I think I'm ready to roll. Ordered SIO2SD today as well.
  16. Thanks! Can you reformat/erase old floppies for this system?
  17. Can you reformat/erase an old disc for this system?
  18. Cool! I was wondering about size but I think it's answered.
  19. Can anyone tell me if there is a specific format for C64 blank floppies? For example, this is the description of something I'm interested in (following). However, I'm aware of side/density/size things being an issue, does anyone know? Thanks! If you know about A8 too that's a bonus: 10-packs of NEW 5.25" DSDD Fuji disks. Color coded. Unformatted. Ideal for early IBM compatible systems (up to 360k), Commodore 64, 128, Atari 8-bit, Apple 2 and other computers.
  20. OK, quick other question...I know someone who is selling 5 1/4 disks. Is there anything specific for blank discs that will work on 800xl? For instance: 10-packs of NEW 5.25" DSDD Fuji disks. Color coded. Unformatted. Ideal for early IBM compatible systems (up to 360k), Commodore 64, 128, Atari 8-bit, Apple 2 and other computers. Does anyone know if these will work with 800XL and/or C64? I need some for both.
  21. Well, I am back after my absence last round. Having some baby stuff going on, but I found time to briefly play these two games. I may be able to do more later, but I was sure perplexed by the controls on crazy climber. I was only able to play it for a few minutes, and I did not do well at all. However, I was pleasantly surprised by missile defense. Of all the basic games we have played I really like this one because it took the slowness of basic and changed the strategy of the game, using the slowness to its advantage. I hope to get some time to try these again.
  22. All right, kogden, since you know a lot about this--where does "Side" fit into this? I'm guessing that's the last question.
  23. I knew I could count on you. This helps a lot. Thank you.
  24. I finally have a unit...if you have SIO2PC, can you transfer to floppy and then run from that? I think that's what I'd like to do if given the choice...this whole cord deal for the SIO2SD seems like a real pain as well.
