  1. Thanks for the responses guys. I'm gonna dig through them and come out with some gems.

Especially encouraging to hear that Space Channel 5 and Ikaruga are worth getting.

I didnt think, and maybe I read this wrong, that there was an activision anthology for the xbox 360.

I've considered getting the GBA one.

And thanks for the Atari Anthology suggestion. I didnt realize it was backwards compatible so I'll definitely look that up.

  2. Great lists here.

I realized I can't edit my own post, but instead of giving the wishy washy "ugh too many to choose for number 10" answer, I'm amending it to Sonic CD because holy moly is that game amazing.

Hadn't played it until just the other week and it's been some time since I got that kick in the chest sort of feeling you get when you experience something that you immediately know/feel is a classic.

  3. So I inherited my brother's unused Xbox360 a few years back and I've only recently started playing it.

I've got some modern titles (Splatterhouse, which I think is fantastic, Streetfighter X Tekken, and a few others) but I've found myself discovering some games that I missed out on through the Xbox live store.

Some good, Sonic CD (which is absolutely incredible and has almost instantly become my favorite Sonic game), Doom and Doom II, Capcom Arcade Collection, and some not so good, Sonic Adventure (i've heard people really love this game, and while it definitely has some charm, the controls are really awkward).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has any recommendations.

I'm looking at Radiant Silvergun and one of the King of Fighters or Virtua Fighters games.

Which KOF or VF game would you guys recommend and what other Classic titles or classic compilations would you suggest. I already have the Genesis collection (which is great) and the Namco one (also great but strange menu).

Also, how are the ports of Nights and the other Dreamcast games on there?

  4. Pat and Ian did another segment (probably their last) on the RVGS/Chameleon on their most recent #CUPodcast (skip to 1:26:14), and that was their conclusion as well: Mike is either a dumb fraudster, or an extremely dumb businessman. Either way, even if he is telling the truth, there's no way he comes out of this story looking good.

There's the specific part of the CUpodcast for those who dont want to scroll through the video.

  5. I love these threads. I may come back and change it at some point, but off the top of my head (many of these are sentimental)

    1. Kirby's Adventure
    2. Dig Dug
    3. Streets of Rage 2
    4. Wario Land
    5. Tempest
    6. Circus Atari
    7. Gunstar Heroes
    8. Castlevania III
    9. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
    10. too many others to think of. I'm better at listing my favorite music. I'd like to put Balloon Fight here but with how much I'm loving Bayonetta 2 and Rayman Legends, they may make their way up to the top 10.

  6. I'm not a hardware guy so I have no real feedback to give there. If, however, you can license Namco titles, you'll definitely have my money for a Dig Dug or Galaga minicade.

    Or mappy. Or pac-land.

I'm a namco guy here so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    EDIT:

I love that, would be great to see Turbo, Slither and other games use a paddle or small trackball.

Not sure if Coleco would be able to partner with Atari for some Atari games. Crystal Castles, Marble Madness, Tempest, Warlords etc. Taito's Arkanoid would work well too.

Yea gimme a mini tempest and you'll get more of my money.

I have no idea how you'd manage a tiny trackball for Crystal Castles and the like, but you'll also get something out of me if you pull that off reasonably well.

  7. Wow. It really does feel like this ride is coming to an end!

Now we just need to find Mike hiding in a hole with a hobo beard he grew.

Yeah but does ridding the retro scene of these guys create a vacuum of power in the retro community to be taken up by someone who could arguably be more insidious?

(that's a joke, of course we wont. And I couldn't resist. I hope it's not too political)

  8. Alright guys, I looked through my stash and I still need to search in a few more places but unfortunately I don't think I saved a full copy of the Gamester81 interview. Now that I remember it, the audio on Mike's end was so shitty and unusable it wasn't worth saving the whole thing. Plus, I didn't expect Gamester81 to delete his own video.

But I did save the last three minutes, which is all I needed for a video I was making at the time.

It's still pretty good, Mike wraps up his selling points for why you should give money to his project so we don't lose out on "all this awesomeness!" Plus there's the typical name drops, blaming the community, and if you have "good solid questions that deserve to be answered" send him a PM! It's all pretty funny to listen to in hindsight and you get the gist of how the "interview" was a glorified soap box for Mike to spit out his lies and empty promises.

    yikes

Looking forward to your next full video on it (your others are great now that I've looked them up)

  9. Question: How is either one of the Pokemon games for the 3DS (Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby)? I've played X/Y, but will be looking for a Pokemon game next month to add to my collection.

Or should I try out and play Final Fantasy Explorers instead? I keep hearing mixed reviews about it.

AS & OR are both perfectly fine. I think I enjoyed X/Y a bit more, but I had no issues with either of these. I really liked the secret base feature.

    Fun overall.

  10. If it's the original monochrome version of Joust + Defender, that port of Joust is actually rather poor. I recall the physics being kind of weird, and I think there are only two types of enemy combatants. Now the color version of Joust + Defender is another beast entirely, and may well be the best home port of Joust that isn't just an emulation of the arcade version (Genesis and SNES are debatable - don't remember if there's emulation of the original ROMs going on there). It's right up there with the 7800 Joust.

I haven't played enough of either version of Defender to really comment on if one was substantially better than the other, but I remember both being reasonably good.

    Ah

I dunno I liked it. Maybe I dont have enough experience with the arcade game (which is pretty likely), but I loved the classic game boy port.

Anyway, maybe I missed it, but I also really love Burger Time Deluxe and that weird Godzilla puzzle game.

I'm also a big fan of most of the capcom disney games (the ones based on the NES games, ect) on the GB.

Nemesis and Nemesis 2 are also fantastic.

  11. Just recently picked up the GB port of Defender and Joust (one of the arcade classics series) and while I'm ashamed to admit that I never played Defender in the arcade, I can speak to the excellent quality of the Joust port.

There's a Mickey Mouse game that plays similarly to the Rescue Rangers NES title that's also fantastic.

  12. Nearly all of the Sega 3D classics are always in some sort of rotation on my 3DS. Been playing a bit of DK Country Returns and Code of Princess. Tried getting into Etrian Odyssey IV but it's been hard going. Maybe I'm just not much of a dungeon crawler.

Oh, that and the NES galaga port from the VC.
