I too am curious if he got ATASCII to work. You need to use ASCII to enter the login name and password. After you do that, I think you can switch to ATASCII if your term program allows you to change the translation after you connected. You can't do that with Syncterm. Also, Syncterm translates both the Enter key and Control M to the ATASCII EOL when it's in Atari Mode. So, I think one needs real hardware with a real dial-up modem to get ATASCII to work on this dial-up service. Native Atari term programs such as Express and Bobterm will allow you to switch translation after you connected. I will try it with real hardware/modem soon.

    -JP

I added a two layer connect - Standard first to confirm enter without setting the translation, second Enter or Return is for the Translation. This was put into place specific to address this term program change of emulation. Pretty standard for BBS Express and FoReM but not really AMIS in the connect. Should provide enough flex to change emulation or change the emulation from ascii to Atascii at the main menu.

I love that service (and I put in for Boot Factory and Dark Forces to be added.)

Will give amis86 a try soon.

Thanks Doc for checking it out. Curious, did Atascii on the dial up work for you or did you have to use Ascii?

Going to See if I can get an XM301 working today to test as well - 300 Baud should be the most authentic of dial up

  3. As JP mentioned, the Amis 86 Board is up on the dial up modem pool. It's also running on the WiModem232 at amis86.ddns.net:9000 right now as the testing is completed to run the board on either emulator, or FujiNet or WiModem or modem. If anyone would test the dial up modem pool that would be cool. Couple of dial up numbers below the user id and password for the modem pool is: amis86

    ...Nope, not yet.

I think someone's trying to sail a boat with my 600XL on board from WA to Vic across the desert.

It'll get here, all in good time! :)

It’s All good Mazz! You got the insurance right? We all have your back on this deal!

I thought about making all new users validated. It isn’t really like the old days where we didn’t want someone loging in a d leech all our warez and then leave.

I know in some instances it would allow hackers to log on and post dumb messages but I don’t know how often this really would be an issue. What do you think?

Validate with the exception of Visitors is my current set up. I agreed, back in the day, validated and the tiers of access were incentive to contribute as well as controls access to warez. No longer needed

Wait... 1990 and he's only going to 2400 baud?????????????

Wait you think that's the only quirk - try, it need a joystick port style dongle to run - A ring detector in reverse, the 6 pin constant and will answer when its released..

    Hello @Amis

Is this a copy of the Bulletin Board Bob was running at CSS including all the or is this the BBS software package?  Did you get those from this room at CSS?

    Sincerely

    Mathy

PS tried to run the ATR in Atari800MacX, but it tells me "no DOS on disk".  There doesn't seem to be a directory at sector 361 or sector 7.

Load up the attached Sparta 3.3 ATR and place the Puff disks in drive 2 and look at the directories.. Look at all the disks.. This is not a ready run set of ATR's the big job is sorting through where files and directories should be with the config..

Thank you for this!!, hopefully someone more BBS savy than me can get this running, even better on Fujinet

Working on it.. Couple of screen shots as the config process is starting.. Will post some project information on southernamis.ddns.net:23 and here as the restoration progresses.. The ATR's are a snap shot in time - downloads, message bases etc are all intact.. Im geeking out...

  10. Here you go - Located for restoration Bob Puff's, Puff BBS. Have not yet restored the platform but looks complete. Have added all ATR's which maybe duplicate for the sake of a complete pack..

Once thought lost but now found as part of the restoration through the Southern Amis projects.

If you have questions or start the process of working the files, let us know here and on the BBS - southernamis.ddns.net:23

or email [email protected] for support

Couple of other programs now loaded on the BBS and website at southernamis.com download section.

This one is a real treasure!

I seem to recall (at least on macOS) needing to restart SyncTerm before the change in character set would apply.  Never used it under other platforms (IIRC), though, so no idea about those ones.

I run MacOS and SyncTerm and have not experienced this issue. Agree with JP maybe reinstall as your version maybe off from the last build

Hmm, so amis is ATASCII only?

    Thanks.

Southernamis.ddns.net:23 is Atari / Atascii only.

The restored/New Build of AMIS, Fuji Amis is Atascii and Ascii.. A bit more to the Atascii side.. amis86.ddns.net:9000

Lets not forget it is Atari Message Information System..

  14. #BBSweek - After a month or so of grinding on the code, Fuji Amis is online and undergoing UAT and stability testing.. Modified extensively from the 1986 MACE original code, built for FujiNet or Altirra with variable baud rates, a screen driver, updated features and a bunch of improvements for the sysop, message board navigation and the option to turn on user profile / user passwords. Additional feature to reduce the once complex message compactor, is now an automated feature.. If you have a chance, atascii over to amis86.ddns.net:9000 as this is a nice piece of history and restoration that brings AMIS back after at least 20 years of being off line... Placing this project under the Southern Amis Group of Projects including the parent bbs southernamis.ddns.net:23
