To Roll or not to Roll?
Thomas Jentzsch replied to Thomas Jentzsch's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
That explains it, yes. But it doesn't explain why that bug has never been noticed before. The coincidence is not that big. -
To Roll or not to Roll?
Thomas Jentzsch replied to Thomas Jentzsch's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Hm, that seems to make sense. But then, why did this not happen more frequently before? The pattern (wait for timer, vertical sync, start new timer) is pretty common. No clue. I could only lookup what Stella is doing. And that might be wrong. -
From the normal Stella download website. There are versions for the various supported OS and for the R77.

To Roll or not to Roll?

So what does that mean? In the "ROLL" case the write to TIM64T is ignored? -
They should work when loaded from SD cart. The cartridge port dumper is out of reach for us to improve. So it will most likely stay as it is forever.

Please try to remove the sqlite files and then boot again.

To Roll or not to Roll?
Thomas Jentzsch replied to Thomas Jentzsch's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Many thanks for the analysis. 👍 So it is the VBlank overscan timer loop (and not the T1024T timer) which is not working correctly. Which still leaves the question what is happening here. Ideas welcome! -

We got the same bug reported by SpiceWare. However I cannot reproduce it on my Windows system. Might be a macOS problem.

Are you sure that there a no magic numbers (pointers) affected now?

ZeroPage Homebrew Twitch Stream
Thomas Jentzsch replied to ZeroPage Homebrew's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Once you have memorized the physics, the game will completely change for you. Then it will become a large puzzle, where each cave needs a new strategy to beat it. But without that memorization, you will constantly be stressed by the physics and cannot concentrate on developing a strategy. -

Hm, AA looks different for me now too. Maybe only a temporary hiccup? -

I noticed the problem lately too. Yesterday's stream was definitely not replayed at 60fps (though the menu said so). Asteroids Attack stars were on and off (see 1:53:53). I had some fun watching you playing Boulder Dash and reading Andrew's comments. Too bad I cannot be there at that time. You clearly need more practice to get a better understanding of the game's physics. Boulder Dash is not a casual game by far. As for the Amoeba level, make sure that there is a large space right below the amoeba, down to the wall at the bottom. Also make sure that the path of the butterflies is wide enough, so that it doesn't get blocked easily. Finally, use the grab to collect the diamonds. You can also go inside the diamonds and grab. As long as there is a diamond on top of you, you are safe. But watch out for trapped butterflies! -
With Stella 6.1 we introduced a new kind of filtering (QIS). This became necessary because we corrected the way Stella emulates different vertical resolutions (e.g. NTSC vs PAL). There is no integer vertical scaling anymore, a scanline's height has become variable now. Unfortunately it turned out, that the R77 is too slow to handle TV effects combined with QIS. We also removed the independent NTSC and PAL aspect ration settings and replaced them with V-Size. This allows you to fine tune the displayed height so that the aspect ratio matches a TV best. Maybe you can use it to reduce the scanline look.

ZeroPage Homebrew Twitch Stream
Thomas Jentzsch replied to ZeroPage Homebrew's topic in Homebrew Discussion
No big deal. Initially I thought Twitch had also reduced the bandwidth. BTW: Aerlan's volume was too low for a non-native speaker like me. I hope you can find a way around the delay. -

Just watching last night's show. Was the main camera not focused 100%? -
That's the plan, yes.

I hope Andrew (or someone who knows Boulder Dash well) will be there on Friday to provide some live tips. -

Quite easy, just select them in the right column and use the menu at the bottom to move them. Or empower me. -
Feasibility of prerecorded speech packages for Stella
Thomas Jentzsch replied to DirtyHairy's topic in AtariVox's Topics
Speeds and pitches might be done on-the-fly by manipulating samples. Libraries for this exist. Not sure about the bends, could they be manipulated on-the-fly too? -

@Nathan Strum The Club overview is a bit confusing, e.g. this thread doesn't show. And Andrew's latest topics appear under the "Welcome!" tab. I would suggest adding a "Topics" tab to the club, maybe even as the first tab. -

I just compared with the SaveKey & AtariVox memory allocation list, there are some more games listed. E.g. Karate Master, Indenture and Monster -

BTW: This club needs a logo. And the SaveKey should be mentioned in the description too. -
