On veeery rare occasions (e.g. DP Award Nominations) I posted on digitalpress, with a total of about 10 posts.

BTW: What about having our own yearly awards here on AtariAge? The DP guys are more focussed on other stuff.

Thanks! (I wouldn't want that much censorship too)

When you search for the recent posts of NintendoDiesScreaming, you don't find this thread.

That's what I did, and therefore thought the thread to be removed. There seems to be a problem with the search engine of the current software.

Or am I just to stupid?

I know, but wasn't there an "Albuquerque" thread yesterday?

Just to make one thing clear:

Neither the Stella Mailing List nor Andrew's tutorials are meant to teach you 650x assembler. That is the basic knowledge that you have to learn yourself and there are plenty resources available that will help you there.

Only when you have got at least some assembler knowledge, you will be able to follow both.

  9. What happend to the "parodies" of NintendoDiesScreaming?

I mean, yes they where very OT and not very creative at all, but perhaps moving instead of killing the whole thread (including posts of other members) would have been sufficient too.

Now the poor guy, must start all over...

  11. I still play all Atari and C64 games with the same, more than 15 year old Competition Pro (microswitch) joystick.

    Precise and unbreakable!

    Yes, that's true.

    quote:

Are there PAL versions where they only fixed the colors and didn't add the scanlines?

I don't know any. Some PAL games have less (~290) than the normal PAL lines (312), but that makes them still slower.

And for the major companies (Atari, Activision or Imagic) all games I know about, are running very exactly at the specifications.

Uih, jetzt gehöre ich sogar schon zur "Prominenz".

    Oder meintest du jemand anderen...?

Hoffentlich findet ein paar andere Programmierer auch genügend Zeit und Geld um vorbeizuschauen. Dann könnte man mal so richtig schön fachsimpeln.

Ok, I'm very glad to hear that.

I just remembered some US-American politician using the same vocabulary for the latest US military actions.

    It depends.

My modern Sony Triniton PAL TV won't synchronize to my own Thrust game (which is already doing a bit more lines: 270).

But when I send the signal thru my the Sharp VCR, it does.

Looks like it's not the TV itself, but the tuner.

This is only one example, but I bet some others have similar experiences.

I wouldn't call killing people (innocent or guitly) a "large kick in the pant". That kind of language is dangerous!

If a lone defender is the only thing between a breakaway scorer with the ball and the goalie, can he deliberately move up to the other end of the field (away from the goal he's defending) way past the scorer to draw him offsides? Seems like that would be easy to do. Or if the scorer can beat his man so it's him and the goalie, is it legal?

From the rule book: Offside is, when in the moment of the start of the PASS, the player that get's that pass is closer to the goalline than any defending field player and the pass is not played backwards (funny, a backward pass rule exists somehow in American Football and Rugby too).

So, the answer to your question is no.

The only chance a defender has, is to move away from the goalline before the start of the pass. Profesional teams are training how to produce offsides (all players in the defending line are making a synchronized move away from the goal) and how to overcome those (passing just before that move happens).

This makes the game very dynamic, because all players involved are constantly moving around.

Due to the very limited scores, it is sometimes possible that a minor team with some luck can beat a major team. Those surprises are, what makes Soccer so unexpectable.

And the more one single score counts, the larger the chances of a dramatic change (e.g. last minute goals) in a game are.

    I love that sport!

As for understanding Soccer, no chance.

The rules are easier to understand than those for American Football. (Offside is an exception)

    quote
I tried to watch a college game here, but it made no sense.  Guys were just kicking the ball out of bounds for no reason (they didn't even get penalized they just got the ball back), the refs kept holding up cards of some kind, but nothing ever happened.  They kept putting the ball in the corner of the field, and made one dude kick it out, but nobody tried to block it.  And I don't understand why they don't score more, I mean that's a BIG net!  So no, I don't get it, and if I did I would probably agree with you, but a 0:0 game seems like an exercise in futility.

    Some explanaitions:

Cards are given for fouls. Yellows are given for more hefty fouls, twice yellow means the player has to leave the game. Red cards are for brutal or unfair fouls and the player has to leave too. In both cases, his team has to continue with one player less.

For a free kick (or a corner ball), the minimum "blocking" distance is 10 yards.

And yes the goal looks very big, but I've played Football ("Soccer") myself and you wouldn't believe how hard it is, to kick a ball into it. You must aim at the corners or the goalie will catch the ball. Normally you have to do that under pressure from an opponent which makes is even harder.

The exceptions are the free kicks. There you can see how proffesional players are able to shot a ball exactly into the corners of the goal from 20 yards and more.

Perhaps you know a Latin or Italian or Irish based American, he will sure try to explain you the basic rules much better.

Football is a world wide sport (except for some minor regions like northern america ).

  19. You shouldn't ban animated Avatars as long as they aren't consuming to much bandwidth (my favorite topic ).

If you don't like to much animation (like me), there are a lot of tools (e.g. WebWasher) or some browsers (Opera) who can disable them.
