As for Rugby, you gotta be down right nuts to play that "game."  "Kill the man with the ball" is more like it.  Are there any rules at all to that thing?  WOW!
There must be some rules too, although I don't understand them.

But Rugby is more like American Football than Soccer.

Soccer needs more scoring, get rid of that boring off-sides rule.

Do you understand the game? Without the offside rule, the game would become much more static.

When was the last time a Soccer game ended  Who wants to sit for 90+ minutes to see a 1-0 game?

Me! Some of the best games end 0:0.

And they don't have comercial breaks every few seconds.

    Stan no like Soccer.

Thomas, who also likes American Football

    In most cases: yes!

There are however some PAL games than run not exactly with 50 Hz and some NTSC are a bit slower than 60Hz, so the difference might vary.

    quote:

    For example,
    Pitfall!
has a 20 minute countdown timer. I know first hand that when I play the NTSC version of
    Pitfall!
with my NTSC console and TV, the timer indeed expires after exactly 20 minutes. If I don't make my way completely through the jungle and collect all 32 treasures within that time, the game is over.

Now, since PAL runs at 50/60 the speed of NTSC, then
    Pitfall!
's "20 minute" timer should stretch to 24 minutes, despite the fact that it displays 20:00 at the start of the game.

I have completely disassembled both NTSC and PAL versions, and Activision didn't adjust the timer at all (-1 second every 60 frames). So the answer is yes again, the PAL game lasts exactly 24 minutes.

BTW: I also disassembled Starmaster and River Raid and they are both not speed adjusted too.

PAL versions run about 17% slower than NTSC games. That comes from the different frame rates (60 vs. 50Hz).

But two times slower can't be explained with that.

Might come in handy for hi-scores

Yes, you can't compare PAL with NTSC highscores.

Are there many competitions between MLB and other foreign teams?

And if the MLB team would loose, would you then agree to rename the World Series?

That's the reason why I'm trying those games. Yesterday he has asked me, if I could find out that scheme for z26.

Thanks, that's exactly the page I found.

Can you play it with Emulator? Or do you have the game Thomas?

No, I don't have the game. I'm just hacking around in the source code, trying to understand, what signal must be on the tapes.

Or is then someting diffrent abou the gameplay?

Don't know exactly, because I don't own the game.

But, according to the manual, each game has two modes. One works with and the other without the Vid Kid. Switching between the modes is done with SELECT.

Yes, you can make the other two games work too. Use the difficulty switches (again, the manual says there are not used ) before you enter the unlocking sequence.

Greedy Smurf: both switches on Amateur (B)

Harmony Smurf: left switch on Pro (A)

Handy Smurf: right switch on Pro (A)

BTW: Both switches on Pro (A) allows resetting the game.

I think some more of the EbiVision tiltes, "This Planet Sucks" and the Tetris variations are missing in your list. IMO "Qb" is more an action than a puzzle game and sure would have sold very well.

And some of the upcoming new homebrews are looking also quite promising.

Yes, I've read that too. Liars!

Perhaps there's other combinations that unlock the other 2 games?[/QB]

No, the "unlock" combination is fixed.

Selecting the other games is perhaps only possible when emulating the keypad controller. But there, I don't know what keys to press instead of cursor up and down.

BTW: There is not cheat like that in Berenstain Bears, sorry.

  11. While disassemling the game, I found that you can start it without the Kid Vid by using the following sequence:

    1. enable Color mode

    2. move left joystick down

    3. switch to B/W mode

    4. press select and hold it

    5. move left joystick up

Did you know that already or did I discover a new Easter Egg?

It isn't! Baseball is played in several countries too (Cuba!). And even in Germany we have our own Amercian Football leagues too.

Saying, some are not allowed to participate but we call it a World Championship, is like saying the German Soccer Champion is World Champion, just because foreign Teams are not allowed.

And what about the so called "World Bowl" of the NFL-Europe? That sure sounds more important than "Super Bowl", but it definitely isn't.

I think, the "World..." stuff is also coming from the typical US-american egocentric way of thinking, which IMO is one(!) of the causes of so much worldwide trouble. (I should stop getting political...)

It's like that austrian newspaper that worte: Arnold Schwarzenegger is world-famous in Austria.

BTW: Shouldn't we move this to Off-Topic?

Sure, you will need special controller setups for those games. Jahfish's idea with the foot pedal looks very promising and there are a lot of hardware freaks around that will make those modifications too.

    quote:

Well, okay, Missile Command could be controlled with two driving controllers, but it would then be difficult to press a fire button (not to mention a bit like driving an Etch-a-sketch).

I know what you mean. With two seperate DCs, it would be very hard to play.

The idea behind this hack is, that somebody could build something like a digital trackball (combining two DCs or even better, something with more than 16 values/turn). That would give the game a real arcade feeling.

(And perhaps something like this already exists.)

    quote
How about games that only require left-right movement with the joystick?  For instance, Megamania?  Games like that could greatly benefit from the more analog-like input the driving controller offers.

Perhaps, but (giving a 1 pixel resolution) to get from one side of the screen to the other (160 pixel), you would have to do 10 complete turns on the driving controller (worst case scenario).

With a bit lower resolution and a bit less distance, I think that would become more practical. But I'm not sure, if it would become as desired.

BTW: The Missile Command hack will have the same problems and in 2D.
