Woo! Post a link for us!

Yeah, they are super weird, and super hard to store cause of that T shape. Also, I don't know if it's the same chain, but the Exchange around me, far better for music than games. Yeah, for me I looked at the end label and went from there. Didn't hit me till later the main label was facing a different direction compared to Nintendo and Sega. My first M Network game was Astroblast, and I did sit there for several seconds flipping it in my hands trying to decide how it should go in. Didn't help that I had never seen an Intellivision at that point, so I was just flying blind. I was also afraid putting it in the wrong way might break it, so I was really hesitant on inserting it. I actually got my system off Ebay, and set all the original Atari games aside, because I hadn't read about the dust cover, and didn't know how it worked. I played the Activision games first. Then noticed the cartridge slot had a dust cover, got a paperclip and discovered magic. Funny story, I actually came on here fearing I got a fake when I got a sliding dust cover that didn't lock because I was so familiar with all the Atari games locking dust covers.

Just to be absolutely confusing. Also, mostly call it "The 2600" and rarely "The VCS" when talking about its history and comparing it to other systems of that era.
-
Yes, we are just speculating. And sorry about missing that part of your post. I would also like to add something to C. How can you tell what game it is by sound? Only a handful have game music, not just a tune at the beginning. Many games don't have much for sound, and there's a ton of recycled sounds. Edit: Another thought just occurred to me. Could they have been based off 8track tapes? The label facings I mean. I never saw one in action, so I don't know how they go.

I actually got my first system around the same time. But I read a lot about Atari before then, and saw pictures of the system so I knew which way the cartridges went. Until I came across an M Network game, and I was so confused by it I had to just guess. Same when I got my Coleco Gemini. Managed to guess right both times.
-
It also doesn't hold because while it works with Coleco games, all of Atari's own cartridges have the picture upside down, and the title hidden in the cartridge slot.
-
Well, it WAS the Cold War.
-
Yeah, quite a few actually.

Mine is preordered! Can't wait to play Halo 2600 in full HD!

Does every woodgrain panel has a unique pattern?
up2knowgood replied to Dionoid's topic in Atari 2600
Well I don't know about back then, but I have seen how they do camouflage today and it's a big vat of base color with strips of the other colors that are floated out and the materials dipped in them to apply it. Result is no two are identical, so maybe it's a similar process they used back then. -
Of course its very subjective, isn't that part of the fun here? And one more game came to mind. Guardian, I think it's a 4k but it's got quite a bit going for it.
-
Oh wow, that's a tough one. I think Stargate looks pretty great, and Phaser Patrol is really fun to play. Those two pop in my head easily, then again they are two of my favorites.
-
Apologies, after rereading the post in the Retron 77 thread, he does say 4k/8k/16k will be supported, my bad. Don't know how I got myself confused there.

Atari 2600 Video Game Release Date Pages Are "Done"

You're welcome. -
Forgive me for being daft, but where does it say the size? I keep hoping for the day Pitfall 2 will play with its incredible music.
-
Is there a resource out there for the size of Atari cartridges? Like which ones are 4k and 8k and so on? The reason I ask is trivial, but the Retron 77 will only play 4 and 8k cartridges, so I wanted to see which ones would work beforehand. I know the CBS RAM Plus cartridges are probably over 8, and I read that Burgertime is a 12k, just curious about any others.

I'd actually like to see him be interviewed, would be interesting.

That's a pretty cool shelf too. Good work on it.

Atari 2600 Video Game Release Date Pages Are "Done"
up2knowgood replied to Random Terrain's topic in Atari 2600
I think Guardian by Apollo should be in the November section of 1982, I don't know if I have enough to change the releases date, but I'll bring it up anyway since I finally found the interview here. I remembered reading this one a few years back, but hesitated talking about it as its gone from the original site. Now, according to this interview with programmer Larry Martin, Guardian was released for production just before Apollo was shut down by its creditors, however I get the impression none were sold until the bankruptcy court released them: https://web.archive.org/web/20140507002507/http://www.2600connection.com:80/interviews/larry_martin/interview_larry_martin.html According to this brief article in Billboard, the bankruptcy was declared in November of 1982, ergo the game cartridges were not released until then. https://books.google.com/books?id=WiQEAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=Billboard+December+4,+1982&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CB0Q6AEwAGoVChMItpiEsY_dxgIVwy2ICh1VggdV#v=onepage&q=apollo&f=false Like I said, I don't know if that's enough to change the release, but I thought I'd mention it anyway and see what other's thoughts are. -

I just want to say, HOLY MOTHER OF MAYHEM! What the static 1983?! -
I have some thing like that, based around this awesome set of drawers I found at a game store. It literally just came in when I saw it, and decided I have to have it, and bought and walked out with it and a copy of Wall Ball that was in it. Unfortunately most of the non-Atari games don't fit in it so well, so to prevent damage I just keep those games that fit in it well. And the drawers open, Crazy Climber is the one I'm most fond of cause I consider it one of my best finds in the wild. Also, all three of those Coleco games have Gemini stickers on them, which I enjoy cause I have a Gemini.
