I, for one, think that means everyone who worked on Stella should be very proud of that fact.
-
If he means only the 4k carts, this release will be very disappointing.
-
No one said it, no. But it did seem like a few would rather see it abandoned than even potentially see it use Stella emulation. Honestly when it didn't come out in the holiday season like they said it would, it kind of felt like it had been argued out of existence after reading this thread.
-
WORKING prototype I might add.
-
All I want is a console that helps me play my cartridges on a newer TV. I am not a programmer or an electrical engineer, and have none of the skill sets required to build something like that. Hopefully this would do that if it ever came out. Is that so wrong? Seems like a few of you think it is.
-
Thank you, those are concrete facts no one else was giving me. With that initial Copyright you have a very solid foundation, and I will admit I was wrong. You should have plenty of leverage against Hyperkin should it come down to that.
-
Again, the paper trail helps that. Otherwise, you are relaying on abstracts to protect your work.
-
You may not HAVE to, but trust me, it's a big help.
-
It does. It makes me think you didn't do near enough work to protect yourselves, and now complaining when someone uses your work in a way you don't approve of. Am I wrong?
-
Wait. You aren't telling me you worked on this project for 17 whole years and never filed for a Copyright are you? I am trying to understand here, not having ever used Stella, I might be coming at this from a different perspective, I am not here to start trouble.
-
Kind of my thinking too, but no one else seems to see it that way.
-
California Games, amazing graphics and sound for the 2600, even if I do find it difficult to play. Not a bad party game either.
-
True, and thank you. By itself, GPL is super weak, but combined with a Copyright, it gains some strength and teeth. I think you have a pretty good case once its released. (Provided it is Stella upon release, which everyone thinks it will be.)
-
What I am talking about, until released this is all Academic, and once released how do you intend to prove theft?
-
Okay, prove it. Further, who owns the copyright? Also, to play Devil's Advocate, if the code is unmodified from what you did, does that mean they didn't violate the license?
-
I bought one of those too, and inside was a white label copy, a black and white manual, and no overlays. *Forgive me AtariAge, for I have sinned.*
-
I'm still confused, if Stella is open source, what licensing are you talking about?
-
To be fair, Hyperkin is also the only one who set a realistic goal for themselves. Or at least, they are in my opinion. They might not be the flashiest, but they know what they can and can't do. To quote Cromwell again, "warts and all."
-
I think "academic" would be the right word, not rhetorical.
-
Probably won't work with the Supercharger or Cuttle Cart either then, crap.
-
I might be the only person on the planet to not have a FB, but I don't. I don't have an Atari childhood either, or very little of one as I said.
