HA! That's a prefect Dad thing to do. Sounds like your Dad was quite a prankster. My family reused boxes all the time, so I never trusted what it said as a kid. I once got a watch in a box of oatmeal.

That's touching man, a great story, and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

AGREED! No collection is complete without a few mistakes.

Crud, wanted that one. I'm really debating, but that is a lot of doubles for me in all honesty. -

How much of that do you still have left? And what did you want for it, $200 still? -
If by Bears you mean Berenstein Bears, I have a boxed copy that is missing the manual if that is okay.

I mean, technically speaking yes. At the same time, the sticker can be removed so its really a matter of your point of view.

@!#[email protected]! How do you really feel?

I thought Atari SA went bankrupt a few years back? *Edit* P.S. I now really want tacos after reading that thread....and it does kind of look like a taco to me too, I have to admit.

AH! I have to admit I've mostly ignored the Ataribox because I'm admittedly on the other side of the fence from you. I have a computer for Steam, what do I need a box for? That and I fully admit I'm a sucker for hardware emulators, and not tech savvy enough to make my own.

Atari has current management? *PA-DUM-CHEEE!* And yes, I pretty much ignored it before it was the "Coleco Chameleon" because I thought it had like no chance, like I said. Not that it had a chance in the end, eh? *Edit* I forgot to thank you for explaining that to me. So thank you Flojomojo.

I think if you were to do that, there would be a tell, like a wrinkle or discolored line across the label there, something like that. Especially with the not so great quality of the Activision labels.

To play Devil's Advocate, the difference is when its done with currency its a serious crime, and reproductions HAVE to have such things to identify them as reproductions, else laws are broken. Even the large novelty paperweights shaped like coins can become subject to these laws despite their much larger size. That said, I'd rather reproductions be as close to the originals as possible, but as you said, agree there will be differences between a factory made and applied label from the 80s, and one made today.

Cool, so two were out by Christmas 81, though it seems odd Super Breakout is listed as exclusive. Then again, if my memory serves me right, Sears did have first pick of Atari's games. Benefits to being the largest retailer in the country....at the time, they might not make it much longer at the rate they're going.

Someone needs to explain Tacobox to me....I don't get it. I assume from context that it refers to the Coleco Chameleon, but I'm not sure how or why. Since it came up, I guess it would be okay for me to put my 2cents in about it. The Chameleon sounded like pie in the sky to me when I first heard the pitch. Cartridges died out because of costs. I for one, remember when a PlayStation game was about $30 and new N64 was over $70 at the same time, seemed impossible that a cartridge based system could compete with the big three. When Coleco got behind it, and it was aimed at classic gamers, I'll admit I though it had a chance. Then the tomfoolery happened starting with that awful showing. They seemed to forget that we're nerds, we love these consoles and games, and pay attention to details. Its almost an insult for them to think that we somehow wouldn't notice it was a Super Nintendo with a Jaguar shell on top. After that it was amazing to me how quickly that guy spiraled out of control and the whole project came off the rails.

Its worth what someone will pay for it. But I think the Atari on the plug wire means it's been rewired, and by someone using a cx40 as parts, which is a few red flags for me.

You're welcome all. Gosh, there seemed to be enough people earlier criticizing how it was just emulation and Hyperkin wasn't a great company that I thought interest was pretty low. I am pleasantly surprised and happy to be wrong. Also, since nobody's mentioned it, is anybody else excited about the controller with TWO buttons?

Younger members: how/why did you get into Atari?
up2knowgood replied to Karl G's topic in Atari 2600
That is an amazing story, thanks for sharing it. -
Why did the winner have to kiss a brick and drink a glass of milk?
