Tauon Electronics - Tauon PC-1 (Have you heard of this?)
Methanoid replied to seastalker's topic in Emulation
I'm not sure I would call it lucked out at $70.. maybe $30... looks pretty crappy to me to be honest.. I think a $30 Android box will have more power so paying $40 for KB and mouse and for privilege of having PCB inside KB is too much. But that's just MY view -
A quick plug for a friend of mine who runs a channel and has made 11 recent Atari ST vids - playlist here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjXZsqjhnBUp37Nqo30A-rKNJkGeGCVBf Have a look, make some comments, say I sent you and maybe even subscribe - he's got more ST content planned and some new hardware he intends to design and build... Go view now!! Meth

Atari ST/STE Low Res VGA Cable from coolnovelties.co.uk
Methanoid replied to cjameslv's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Thanks I'm gonna run it through a GBS8220 so just need to find a wiring diagram that shows me how to connect that switch. I'll wire the ST 14 pin to a standard VGA plug (and then join sync etc inside the GBS8220 casing). I guess I could put the switch in that case and make the cable simpler. -
Atari ST with VGA Monitor?

Don't suppose you have a photo of it since their website doesnt? EDIT http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/monadapt.htm Couldn't find it from their website but did find it via Google... Quaint is not the word I would use to describe BE's website -
Atari ST with VGA Monitor?
Methanoid replied to koolmoecraig's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I hope Best Electronics cables are better than their website design? Its a single image... So 1990s! And then it just tells you to call or email for info.. Duh?! -
Atari ST/STE Low Res VGA Cable from coolnovelties.co.uk
Methanoid replied to cjameslv's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
I was puzzling a bit (not owned an ST for a while) and thinking, if modern LCD TVs are TVs they sync to 15.6, but if they also have VGA inputs etc they must do 31.2... so do ANY of them accept all 3 ST video modes on a single cable/? Or is a switch still the only way and who still sells them? The usual suppliers all seem to have stopped -

What could my next STE hardware project be?
Methanoid replied to atarifanboi's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
This is gonna confuse choices for me... MonSTEr - IDE, TOS-flash, AltRam New Booster - Speed, IDE, AltRam I assume the Booster will work with your TOS boards as well... STFM or STE? Hoping for latter! -
Thanks for the advice. I'll be back

That is great. Might seem obvious but I write that 15Mb image to my 8Gb CF card (or any card), then boot my Atari from it, then load the partitioner. Can I then swap the CF card (I'm not gonna be using USD) and partition a blank card or must I repartition the one I wrote the 15Mb image to? And I guess then I put the card back into a PC to transfer files to the card? Sure I read somewhere that only first partition is visible on a PC? Sorry if these are dumb questions!

I have no prob with paying for the driver (not the 45 Euro one though!) but he only makes a 1Gb image available. How do I get the driver onto the ST with no FDD?
-
Nice video Galax... but for people who have got a "new" ST with zero floppies or software, I wonder if a pre-config image is available... What I am looking for is something with 14 x 511Mb (ie for an 8Gb card) that I can write on my PC and insert into an IDE to CF adapter on an STE.... Any ideas where I might find ??
-
Name and shame him!!!
-
Thanks, that will be very helpful. I would have thought it could sit above the STE Ram shield... I dont see the need to sacrifice the FDD although I probably will fit this HxC FDD emu from Lotharek I have sitting gathering dust so far.. My worry really is how to do the wiring or if the cable can easily be routed back inside (most likely since I am hopeless at soldering)
-
Is there some clever and/or neat way to fit ultrasatan inside a standard STE?
-
Sounds like we might fit internally on STE with minor mod. That would be great!!
-
Yup, I would be... Email sending

Ctrl and Alternate at boot held down until it said Abort and didnt load from HD. THEN insert FD with AHDI on and install. AHDI barfed once with some crappy error message. No reboot, just ran it again and it worked a dream. Install driver. Then reboot and machine loads Desktop etc from HD. Bingo.... Well it was for me at least
-
This thread is also on comp.sys.atari.tech IIRC and I had the same prob but managed to fix. CBHD caused the Boot problem and AHDI fixed it.

OK I need HELP now. It arrived an hour ago and I have replaced KB with a English one. I have only used an ST last about 10 years ago...so I am rusty as hell! There is a HD fitted but it does not boot... might be knackered or no driver installed or blank. Questions: 1) How can I find the TOS version? 2) Found I have 4Mb ram.. damn!! - DONE 3) Changed NVRam settings to English - DONE 4) Installed HD (170Mb) with CBHD and now machine bombs. How do I force machine not to load from HD so I can get AHDI on instead? 5) Using HD Floppies from PC no probs. Any help mucho appreciated UPDATEd: solved some probs myself Meth

Yeah, contacted them. They say they have the rights from Silmarils liquidators to sell ENGLISH versions of these as long as their supply of manuals lasts. It seems I *might* be able to distribute without manuals... I;ll investigate... Its not exactly encouraging for a first start. I mean, how many people are really selling Falcon stuff now????
-
Well updating umich would be a great start.... Tell me, has ATARI-FORUM died???
-
I see they SELL the STE versions which also run on Falcon but not the Falcon specific version which I missed on Ebay recently. Also if they had the rights surely they would be chasing the guys who put this on websites for several years now???

Given the absence of any decent collections of Falcon s/w on the web I am wondering whether an FTP server would be worthwhile. I do NOT wish to host ST s/w as there are plenty of sources for that. a) Is there any interest? I have a DSL connection (due to be uprated in speed in a few weeks) which would be fine for small usage. b) Legality issues. I know for ST s/w all the cracked versions are distributed like PD (which they are not of course). My initial view (and I welcome debate) would be that the server should allow ANY s/w except that which can be bought currently (ie no shareware which the authors are still taking fees for). Examples would be HD drivers (no!), Games like Ishar RPG (yes, they don't sell it now). c) Technical - Totally open server or Private with Usernames/Passwords? Ratios or not? Personally I would favour a private system but without ratios, relying on people being decent. Any comments?
