  1. I got mine, but I'm worried about using the wrong power supply and blowing it up. Can someone point me to one I can use in the USA?
  2. Can someone provide the tracking link?
  3. I still want to know what the "exclusive" games will be. There appear to be a few Activision titles and a few Atari 8-bit computer titles already available. It would be nice if you could create short-cuts (deep links) into Ant-Stream and Atari Vault so you could play your favorite games directly from the interface. That would be a nice Atari-VCS-Only feature for apps that otherwise exist on almost every other platform.
  4. I bought it on eBay just so I could play it like it was 1982. It worked!
  5. New episode of our podcast.  This one is about Christmas 1981, The Atari VCS Christmas.

  6. Anyone with a tracking # see their cart reach the USA yet?
  7. Please excuse my excitement, and ignore this post with your utmost prejudice of you don't care. After 38 years, I bought a fresh copy of River Raid off Ebay, opened it up, plugged it into my 7800, got a real CX-40 Joystick, and proceeded to obliterate my old high score from Christmas 1982 by nearly 15,000 points. I could never play well on any of the retro collections, or emulators because the feel of the joystick was just not right. But with an actual CX-40 in my hand on real (okay a 7800, but still), all the nuances were correct and I was able to score higher than I ever thought possible as a kid, 33450 points. I don't care if this is not really a record or anything, it's my record and it took 38 years to do it.
  8. I bought that one too, but I'm still waiting for a modern Namco Museum that includes Bosconian again.
  9. I bought this game more than a year ago, but I've never tried it. I just got my 7800 working again today, and tonight I plan to see what all the fuss is about.
  10. Steve is totally willing to talk. He did like 2.5 hours on our podcast this year, and we are going to follow-up again soon.
  11. Update: RCA Video cable connected to Video-Cable connector, works fine.
  12. I pulled my 7800 out of the garage but I can't find my TV connection cable. Will and RCA video cable work as a substitute?
  13. This year for Christmas  bought myself new copies of River Raid and Vanguard for the VCS so I could open them and try to recapture some of the feeling of 1982.   I bought the games with very little eBay research, choosing the price over most everything else.   At the  same time, I don't own a working 2600, and my 7800 is in a box in the garage that I've yet to be able to break into, so I have to settle on on using my Retron '77 (which I've only ever used with the community build firmware and SD slot, never for actual cartridges).

I knew it would be difficult to capture the same feelings of being 12 years old, but damn it, if it didn't work anyway!  River Raid and Vanguard are such good games, they transcended my set-up and still made me happy.

There are many ways in which I could have done this better, and it could have gone even more wrong too, but in the end I still feel like I achieved my goal at about the D+/C- level, which is a passing grade.

Here is link to my unboxing and playing video of the experience.

I definitely captured a little bit of that spirit the last few years by getting one or two AA homebrews for the 7800.

Need to dig my 7800 out of the Garage.  I have Rikki and Vikki and Time Salvo sitting right here unplayed.

Next year I'll probably get several homebrews and do it right.

  14. Nice! I think it will probably end-up being the first one I actually finish.
  15. I updated the demo to have restricted movement. I still let Santa go partially back off the screen because he's sleigh is so long, but it needs to optimized: JS7800: Atari 7800 Emulator (raz0red.github.io)
  16. Playfield will be restricted yeah. As for colors, probably, yeah. Must look nightmarish though....
  17. Thanks, yeah, when I figured that one out I was like "hey, this is unique, this might be the hook of the whole game"
  18. Plan to have that done soon. It's complicate by the segmented movement, so I left it until later.
  19. Yeah I was proud of that one! I wish I had more game done though.
  20. This is a demo of the 7800 game for Xmas named "7800 Xmas : Santa Vs. The Nightmares". The pokey music player is done, and the basic game allows you to fly the sleigh and shoot the nightmares with Christmas bulbs from Rudolph's nose. Nothing is complete. TBD -lose reindeer when hit -fewer reindeer mean you can only fly a limited height -Collect presents to gain back reindeer JS7800: Atari 7800 Emulator (raz0red.github.io) 7800xmas.bas.a78
  21. When you get down to it, those custom chips are really the things that create the unique nuances I remember best (sounds, timing, glitches, artifacts, etc.) It's hard to get unique nuances from generic hardware.
  22. Before I waste my time on a project, can someone tell me if any of the current emulator support Intellivoice playback? If no, is there another tool that can output the same voice Mattel Electronics used?
