  1. Once again, we are not copying your product The last guy actually copied your product. He was actually praised by many on this site until it turned out he was rude and made a subpar product that he wouldn't stand behind. Which was the real reason why he was eventually kicked off. We are creating a system that will give you a larger userbase to sell your games to which in itself is a benefit to you. You are still making a product geared to a slightly different userbase. There are still a lot of people who want an authentic colecovision that they can plug a SGM into and there will still be a market for that for you to sell into.
  2. But in this scenario we are not claiming the trademark. If SuperGame Module is mentioned for compatability reasons it will be attributed to Opcode Games. And we don't have to use the SuperGame Logo if there is one. The difference is shown with how the SuperGame Module was licensed from Coleco Industries. They paid a license for the ability to use the Colecovision/coleco logo. When they stopped using the logo they no longer needed the license. We have no intention of claiming the trademark or using the logo for Supergame module.
  3. We never agreed to paying a license fee, we agreed we would be able to have SGM compatibility built in return for waiting until you shipped your last run of SGMs (which was considerable amount of time). Once again you didn't answer my question in what we would actually be licensing. An hypethetical example of an appropriate license situation would be if we wanted to make our own version of the SGM that plugged into an actual colecovision. We would then need to pay licensing to have access to the schematics, board files and programming information so that we could recreate the module for sale (not that we have any intention of doing this). In our situation we are using no intellectual property or claiming any trademarks.
  4. Repeated for clarification. You say we need a license, what would we be licensing?
  5. I am still having trouble trying to understand what exactly we would we be licensing as there is nothing to license as NIAD pointed out other then maybe the name or the physical hardware or your code on your hardware. And we are not using any of that.
  6. Does this mean you also copied the SGM? just checking ....
  7. Also to clarify.. I doubt our project will make a ton of money. We are pricing the system at a low enough point where it will be available to a large group of people, but we don't know if we will sell 100 or 2000. With the costs of tooling a new case there is not a lot of money to be made unless you are making SuperNT kind of volume (which i can almost guarantee we will have anywhere near that amount of sales). The real goal of this project has always been to make the coleco accessible to those who want to play colecovision games on modern screens at a reasonable price without having to worry about 30 year old hardware failing. The more systems we can get out there the more potential customers for all of the homebrew publishers, which is good for everyone. Once again this project is about passion and the community not money.
  8. Well we did not copy anything. We did not copy any hardware or software. We just implemented our own hardware and firmware to a known specification that was freely available as many other projects have done (see coolcv, bluemsx, Fabf's project ... etc).
  9. Well technically we did come up with our own hardware and you will not find any of the physical SGM components on our system. And we don't need any of the components to make the system compatible to play SGM games.
  10. I'm fairly certain original expansion modules aren't supported with Prometheus, but I could be wrong.
  11. Well our system has an "expansion port" just not one that the sgm plugs into.
  12. If you want I can post the messages where you told me exactly What i posted, but I wouldn't post them without talking about it first.
  13. This is not entirely accurate. I wasnt going to bring it up, but since you did here is more background. Eduardo and I were actually working together on a new system. All of a sudden he stopped responding to any of my messages for over a month. It turns out he wasn't happy with the time it took to get a response from one of the other developers on the project. So in this month of no response he was approached by the hardware group developing Prometheus and he decided he was going to abandon our project for the new one without even bothering to tell me. So while the idea of a colecovision successor was in place before, Prometheus as it is was done well after my project.
  14. Just to be clear, we had an agreement in place for around 6 months that we would be allowed to integrate the sgm at no charge as long as we waited for the 4th run of sgms to be shipped. Which is why we have had to remain silent and say we wouldn't support it. It now seems Eduardo is trying to back out of the deal we had in place.
  15. I think the best thing to do now is to take a breath. Nothing is set in stone or 100% decided yet. When things have been finalized, an announcement will be made through the appropriate channels.
  16. Really check to see if UL is necessary and if it isn't absolutely required don't do it as it will drastically increase the cost. Having gone through a UL certification recently for my day job, it is a long, drawn out, and expensive process.
  17. The funding amount is also suspiciously low as that would only be just enough for molding costs.
  18. Probably best to wait for Pacman DX or use multicart.
  19. I don't think you could call a cartridge with a handmade label with bad writing something that displays well, assuming the seller is using that phrase to describe the physical attributes of the cartridge.
  20. Just as a side note, i sent a message to him this morning inquiring about kill barney and whether he could send a picture of the pcb. Needless to say I am still waiting...
