  1. Either of these for me hit all the ugly buttons. Hyperscan - looks like 1 player battleship which is also just not fun. Sega Pico - yeah I know its for kids but Its ugly. V-tech Vsmile with the controllers that look like feet. I don't even want to post pictures they are that damned ugly...to me anyhow.
  2. This got me thinking of a few items that might be of additional concern on this but first let me share my experience with cd based systems. Model 1 and model 2 Sega cd. I have both and have fixed both. Sadly the model 2 Sega cd's do have a tendency to fry their fuses and the model one has lots of moving parts but if you have ever done VCR repair its very similar in its repair motions. 3 Sega Saturns and 2 have had laser replacement which is fairly easy and cost effective else they run like champs. My Original PS1 also runs like a champ but can overheat but that was my fault when I soldered in the chip so I could play imports. Flash forward to something a little more modern. I have 2 dead Gamecubes and 3 dead Original Xbox's. I know for a fact that 2 of the Xbox's need a drive replacement but that's just not worth it. The gamecube's though were a real surprise in not being able to pinpoint a solution to issues. One reads discs fine but automatically shuts itself off after some time. The time varies and is not consistent and I tried temperature monitoring and that was not a factor either so I am at a loss. The other one won't read at all and I have tried a new laser with no improvement either. So here are my considerations. Older units while more prone to failure are much easier to fix than newer items that have way too many components to trace check and troubleshoot. So in the long run after repairs will there still be more older running units than more recent ones?
  3. Well if the 3DO growled when it turned on I would say it is more powerful. Besides the 3DO has Sex but the Jaguar only gets folks Pinball Fantasies.
  4. What do you want to acquire? I think I am at the point now where I want to fine tune my gaming experience so I might go after an OSSC then redo the basement game room a bit to add additional storage. Weird right I don't want games to go with it? I do but funds have to go into structure before acquisition. What do you want to sell off? Just extra crap I have accumulated. Often is not games but stuff like game boxes, sleeves, manuals, cover art and the like. I don't often get doubles as I have really not actively bought up lots of items. Do you want to "right-size" your collection to fit a certain lifestyle? So as my wife put it. This is my collection and game room so I should do what I feel needs to be done but remember there's only room for Skyrim in the end since that's one of the few games she really enjoys. Do you want to get rid of excess doubles and triples? Just extras in the items mentioned above. Do you want to sell recently purchased things that are not so cool now that you have them? This question comes up a lot and as my friends have restated over and over. "You got the coolest games." As I hand them over the Jaguar controller for some Tempest 2000. Is there 1 single magical and highly desirable piece you're hunting for? A replacement for my Magic Knight Rayearth manual. I never find just the manual and everyone always wants too much money for it. I lost mine to a flood 4 years back which turned it into a wavy paper brick but I am sure an opportunity will come. Do you have too much stuff to fully enjoy what you have today? I would say no. I am not over 1000 games and no planes to get there really. I like hanging with friends playing games. I don't classify as a collector in that view. I even open up sealed games to play them if I find them with never a care of value on them unless they are just terrible to play then it will become a bookend or prop up the coffee table like that weird blue cartridge with the handle. Its just right to hold up my lopsided end table who would have guessed.
  5. I got bored this weekend and thought about opening my house as a rental store for retro games. Too bad I also generally distrust people as well so that idea died.

Hmm maybe it's time to open that Java shop and encase old systems in boxes and use coin slots to activate and play games. Then video it all and scream while posting on SnapChat.

The stronger the coffee, the louder you'll scream?

Actually a "retro video game" themed coffee shop would be cool...

  6. I am a big risk taker when it comes to game so long as the price tag is not astronomical. I mean would you go in and buy a game for $300 that you had no knowledge of? Probably not but I love cool stuff like mystery carts. I have quite a few mystery ones for the 2600,7800 and even NES. Sometimes its worth the gamble on getting something amazing. Too bad 9 times out of 10 the NES carts are all Mario sadly. I did get a cool Ghostbuster genny game though that was totally unlabeled for a buck. And to me that's worth it. Sames goes with games I may not know anything of but sit in the dollar bin. If its not just a Madden game or Nascar I might be tempted to snag it to see if its any fun.
  7. It uses the same hardware as the NES classic so same hacking methods would apply.
  8. Yup this ^^ Youtube cycles popular videos over better videos which have to do with subscriber count, views, and partnership. Also its important to tag videos and some folks have that down altogether.
  9. Thats easy buy up all the NES Mini Classic and SNES mini Classics.
  10. I am lazy and did not want to read through it all but are they Saturn cases or Sega cd cases? Just noting since the pin sizes for the hinges are different and it would suit best to even modify those for better strength if they can. Although weak ones would mean return business I would suppose.
  11. On another note $10 and its mine. I think I will put my 7800 in this who agrees.
  12. Oficially todays starts my first day of new work yay.

Saturn was great. Mobile game Dashy Crashy is playing homage to old racing games this month. They've done Outrun, Ridge Racer, and this week is DAYTONAAAAAA

A deal on a Saturn should be a cause for celebration

  14. So one of my most recent additions to the collecting scene was a facebook group for folks fairly local. Initially I was excited to see what peple had and hear some of the stories about acquiring it but then it all dumped down to. "I picked up this lot now who wants to buy it off me for retail." um not me. I did some trades with folks through that group but some of them were really pushy about throwing in extra stuff I had cause theirs was worth more and Pricecharting or GameValueNow said so. So this group has strayed more from want to worth sadly so I have left them on the social aspect and purely use them to buy off my extra stuff when I get it "for retail" ( not really I tend to just see what folks are wiling to pay and work from there.) Personally I just like to play more than collect on the side of things as well thus my 1-2 times a month Game nights with friends where er break out stuff and play whatever fancy's our desires. The good thing about that experience as well makes me realize that there are some games that are really just not worth it and thus get dumped out to the sale pile keeping my collection to a happy medium typically.
  15. I don't understand them either so maybe I should do them so I can understand better. Its just too bad because some people just would rather not be on video and getting permission can be a pain and we know everyone follows those rules ha ha. No really I don't like them either its like watching someone else open christmas presents or creeping in on a Chuck E Cheese party, even offering other women advice on buying undergarments. ( ok that last one might be too much...but is it though?)
  16. Maybe I am too new for this retro arcade deal but I do remember one very good way to play without pay. Well it had cost associated with it in the amount of time but the rest was free. See there are these long quarter sized metal bars and it was not me per sey but the father of a friend who decided to make a bunch of slugs to beat the arcade system. That worked really well until they got smarter coin acceptance devices but I recall having pockets filled with quarter sized pieces of metal.
  17. I often wonder if there is anything cooler than Atari.

Actually....nothing is HOTTER than Atari this summer!

  18. Well I have plans on continuing my reign of destroying gaming for everyone and I am going to start with my next video soon to be released. In fact its going to set Atari onto a new avenue and shame others into never giving me anything. Well that's the goal anyhow too bad procrastination rules my life. It even makes me not want to.......
  19. Loose or complete whos got one for me? Let me know price as well. Thanks
  20. To be fair my kids were all forced to work crap butt jobs for several summers to learn the value of not money but knowing that work is not necessarily an easy or wanted thing but that it can also be rewarding. So my soon to be off to college child is looking for gainful employment with something that's not just packing groceries or painting ore even worse lawn work. Good thing though is he already has work experience on his resume for the next job and that in itself can be a huge booster to better spots in the work world. Oh and none of my kids want to spend money on games. They wait until birthdays or holidays typically to then use the cash from that to get what they want as well. Only my daughter has no real sense of money and work at the moment but her time will come soon to work that crappy job ha ha. Oh and then we will make videos and throw in games of no value to make them seem more rare and ruin gaming on youtube. See what I did there stay on topic right.
  21. Yup I was just quick reading after this thought but it was nice to get the picture and all. Well onto the next thing then. Where is my Eli Ladder Fidget Spinner?
  22. Man why is it I miss all the fun. I was going to totally buy this cause of this picture. No scammer ever logs onto a dying phone powered by Sprint at 1:24 AM from atarihomebrew.com. LEGIT!
  23. I wonder if there will be a pre order fiasco again with the re release? Any have insight if they plan to do that anywhere or are they just going to populate shelves like the SNES post a section of preorders.
