The 94 version is the earliest known verison, so its a bit rougher than the other 2 versions. The frame rate in particular seems to be half the the other two. AC94 is still the only traditionally boxed version with a manual and an overlay.
On another note the original manual is a bit hard to find, but really is there any need for this ??
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221809391086?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
even B&C will charge you $20 for a copy of the manual! Today I went ahead and ordered a new run of the original manual, but with a nice cover on it, so it looks like a Jaguar manual should. Should cost a lot less than $20 even with postage from the UK!
I guess there isn't a reason for it. But I can see myself buying the crappy 94 addition just for that Overlay. I know a lot of people think overlays are throwaways but I think they add tremendously to gameplay and the love of using that controller. Im still hunting down all three Aliens vs Predators overlays.....dang it

I think Robotron 64 for the N64 could be ported over to the jaguar. Theres no reason why the Jaguar cant handle that game. If anybody has the development skills and a dev unit and would be willing to make the engine, i could rip all of the assets from the N64 game. Then said project could be presented to a publisher such as reboot or songbird. The only thing im not sure about is the copywrite of Robotron. Im thinking maybe this could still be done with permission from Netherrealm studios or WB games. Thoughts?
I always thought that both Robotron 64 and Astroids 64 felt like they were made for the Jaguar. A system that excels in porting old Arcade games in a modern 3d look. Both games are REALLY decent and are a lot of fun and remind me of Jag titles such as Defender 2000, Tempest 2000, Breakout 2000 and Missile Command 3D.

It's a good looking port, but no...it really isn't. The resolution and it looks like the color palette are more limited, and the control just isn't the same.
Compared to what?
SNES- sluggish controls, fuzzy prerendered photos of Claymation and bad sound
32X and Genesis- Don't even ask
3DO- horrendous loading time, added crap (which is usually a good thing but not in this case) Clunky control system on the ridiculously inadequate 3DO controller
PlayStation- Most likely the closest to perfect. However HORRENDOUS loading time, I do not enjoy the playsation controller for fighting games, hit detection glitch that the original arcade had where the character gets stuck mid air. Really quirky frame rate
Saturn- pretty much the same problems the playstation version has except graphics aren't as good. Frame rate skips at time
Back to the Jaguar- Glaring lazy last minute potential fixes such as the zoom out. However perfect frame rate, decent loading times (actually the BEST loading times of ANY CD version of the game except for the Direct Arcade port on Arcade classics combo disks) PLAYS JUST LIKE THE ARCADE. No modified combo systems, no removed juggling, includes all fatalities and extra sprites such as drool and spit drops removed from other ports. The best sounding intro sound FX of any port. Yes compare to the other CD units and the monkey sounds like a chipmunk. How did they mess that up? Once again your bad controller comment most likely stems from the original Jaguar controller. I agree...this game plays bad on THAT controller. However as I suggested, the PRO controller is a MUST! In fact im not just being a Jag fan here....short from the original Arcade pad and joystick, the Jaguar Pro Controller is the BEST way to play this game. I recommend you actually sit down and compare each port. You will agree that the only port better than Jag is PlayStation and that's only if you have patience to endure the playstation's loading time. Do not rely on the ridiculous comparison video on Youtube. They use a Jaguar Emulator that doesn't look, sound or even present itself accurately.

Also yes clay fighter does indeed look decent on the Snes (NOT the Genesis though ) But the reason for that is because it isn't a port at all. Clay fighter was designed to play on the Super Nintendo. Primal rage was ported from the Arcade and looked awful on snes. So sluggish....minus well have the game boy version.
-
I own the Jag CD, Sega 32x, snes and Playstation ports of Primal Rage. Sure...you can enjoy primal rage on a cart. But it's almost like editing a 2 hour movie into an hour and 15 minutes. The cart versions resolution is just awful. Claymation sprites look way better on CD. Both 32x and snes versions are borderline unplayable. Their combo system was cut, no juggling as far as I can tell and the game as a total just does not have a arcade feel to it. They even removed certain special moves and fatalities! playstation port is the closest to arcade but also has its issues. EXTREMELY long loading time. As well as awkward positioning of loading time. You can never see your characters full victory taunt when you win a match because it freezes to load.
Not surprisingly I prefer the Atari jaguar Cd version. It is really close to being arcade perfect. It has the cheering sound effect cut from many others, it doesn't have those stupid computer rendered sluggish cut scenes that were added in the playstation and 3do ports at the last minute and it looks and sounds like the arcade. Most importantly it PLAYS like the arcade. However I would never suggest playing it without the pro Controller. The only issue with the Jaguar version is probe forgot to zoom in the picture just a bit more. Because of this the characters are a bit smaller than usual but they are definitely bigger than cartridge ports, and the background ends before the screen does! You can see a black edge. It is an embarrassingly glaring and noticible flaw, However due to this being one of the best ports for this game I learned to overlook it. But if only they zoomed in just a little I could boast that the atari jaguar has the best port of Primal rage. ....it's a shame

Sorry, but that's nonsense. Most of us were around when Cybermorph first came out and were front and center for the launch. It definitely didn't blow most of us away and even the contemporary reviews were all over the map, from judging it very good to mediocre. All things considered, it was not bad as a launch title, but it was definitely an acquired taste and certainly a bit hard to appreciate its audio-visual qualities from a purely accessible "eye candy" standpoint. It was interesting technology, but definitely not something that would necessarily make most people go "wow" without understanding all of the calculations taking place behind the scenes to generate those pop-in heavy environments with relatively little else going on in-game.
This is 1993 dude....ahem...1993. Go Google what games were out in 1993. I had computer geeks at the time who were impressed with it. Also there are more mature ways to counter a point with your OPINION than claiming another person's opinion is "nonsense ". I just happen to think what you're saying is nonsense too! But I don't out right say it.

I hate Gorf by the way

Did you make these photos JUST for this debate? I'm flattered
-
Found this one, too. Hey...this guy looks just like me as well!
You look pretty happy with that copy of Battlesphere in your hand....
-
You are not God or a equally powerful deity. You cannot tell me what system or product entertains me more than the other.
-
You know what? I like this guy. I hope he sticks around.

Screw that. I assumed atari age would offer reasonable debates. All I'm seeing is annoying s**t talkers and trolls. Go play your modern systems while mocking the retro gamers and making assumptions about their intellectual prowess or motives for collecting
-
Happily married, thanks.

So let me get this straight. You are obviously a fan of classic games and systems. It seems to me you really don't have a leg to stand on. You are just trash talking a system just....because! Also I can find random photos off of Google image and pretend that I'm a part of a happy family too!
-
This is so cute. You guys are adorable! You are actually comparing a system released in the 90s to modern hardware? I'm wasting my time....it's sad.
-
There is no "posse" or club. I'm talking about the exclusive nature of the limited supplies available. You are just trolling and you are doing a poor job of it actually. Please whatever hole your "exclusive" posse decides to go advertise it loudly so I can avoid it.
Talking about snob!!!!
-
I'm sorry. I can't tell if you're serious. Let me know if there's anything else you think I haven't spent time with.
A woman? Have you spent time with a woman?

I find myself firmly in the same camp as you, ls650, i'm all about the what could of been with the Jaguar.
It suffered from far too many unfinished games being rushed out, simply because Atari needed product on the shelf, ditto the Amiga/console ports.
Sure Syndicate on Jaguar is far better than the cut down SNES/MD versions, but the 'exclusive' zoom feature was utterly pointless.
Things like Legions Of The Undead, Conan, Black Ice/White Noise etc hinted at the exclusive titles Jaguar could of had, but sadly never saw.
Doom, AVP, Tempest 2000 and I.S along with Rayman saw me get just enough VFM from the hardware not to feel i was overly daft to rush in when i did, but there were so many false claims/screenshots related to what would be appearing on the machine, whilst Atari served us up a lot of actual crud, Jaguar will always be a case of decent hardware, poorly served by Atari itself, let alone 3rd party support.
Atari never lied about anything. They fully expected to eventually get their game library going. They literally threw their entire Company AT THIS System. Every last resource was given to keep their promise. Basically Atari died trying to keep its word. It severely irritates me when I see people saying "i can't believe people fell for that crap" as if their advertising was a scam. Their tech specs were all accurate. The jaguar WAS IN DEED unlike anything on the market at the time. People were still fooling around with the super Nintendo when this powerful hybrid came along. It was all about timing. The Jag was dead center inbetween the super Nintendo and the playstation.

I truly don't feel like a "victim". I'm a collector. I once owned most of these things and then threw them away. I am now rectifying this. I started rectifying this waaaay before it became a thing. It's cute that you see all "newbs" to this particular sight as newbs to the entire gaming industry. Seems like your a victim of superficial perceptions. Also to actually compare a collectible classic item to pricing of modern items is quite silly. Why buy a jaguar cd when I can get a PS4 instead right? Yeah....Once again your a victim of commerce. I collect transformers and 80s toys. Do I ever think twice about a 80s die cast high quality product costing more than the plastic cheap junk they sell today? No....because I'm a collector. I also see the value of rarity. So while everyone and their mamma will be playing a ps4 or xbox....me along with an exclusive number of people will be enjoying a rare gem. Ironically older systems tend to outlast next gen systems. My ps3 lasted 4 years. My jaguar and super Nintendo are still kicking it decades later.Personnaly I like the Jag but never felt that i "must" find this or that.
That sounds silly to me that you're OK to spend the price of an iPhone for a pro controller and probably even more for a single cartridge game...
FYI, Towers II is not a CD but a cratridge.
To me the very first priority would have been to purchase a Jag CD which is not that rare and less expensive that what you paid for a Pro controller.
The Jag CD allow to play the games released on CD + more than one hundred of homebrews...
You sounds to me like nothing but a fashion victim...
-
Have you really played the best games? Battlesphere, Zero 5, Phase zero, towers 2, Breakout 2000, Missile command 3d, Rayman, Skyhammer, Iron soldier 2 etc....that's well over a 2 thousand dollars worth of games. People tend to believe they've seen everything the jaguar has to offer but really. ...they have only been exposed to the rushed launch titles and they base their assessment off of them.Man...what's with the angry n00bs?
Pretty sure madman's played his share of Jag, and I've got a complete boxed retail set. Yes, I've played them all and yes, many if not most of them suck.
The Jag's my favorite system, but more for the last hurrah it represents, Atari's quixotic charge into oblivion. It's a system that was doomed to failure before it ever released, plagued with chipset issues, woefully inadequate budgets, and generally junior varsity development teams but damned if Atari didn't go down swinging. A CD add-on with a zero percent chance of success? Yes please...I'll have that as well.
The console has a few shining stars but by and large its titles are underdeveloped, to put it charitably.
-
I think the earlier suggestion is probably a good one here. It was probably produced in the lowest amount and expected to sell the least, so it was the lowest priority. Or maybe Atari wanted that month to themselves, thinking it would help with sales of the console and CD unit if that was shown as a hot new game, albeit one that already appeared on every other console.
That's what it kind of seems like to me. Atari believed that it would be a hot Christmas item and it would bolster sales. Well....This would be true if not for the fact that EVERY OTHER system had their release a year earlier. Lol.....I'm just glad they even released it. Primal rage is the best fighting game the Atari jaguar has to offer. And it makes getting a pro controller worth it.

I finally got my hands on a Jag cd unit. I'm quite nervous as the dealer said it was playing iron soldier 2 a week ago. But still I know the legendary complaints of the unit. I've also heard that most of the complaints are unfounded and the jag cd has the same amount of problems as the 3DO or cdi. (Look it up there are repair men for each system respectively )
My point is, are there any survival tips in prolonging this used machine? I can't afford a sealed new one so I'm just hoping the guy took care of it. I know people claim that jag cd units sometimes don't work brand new. But in actuality they probably do work. The sealed label sticker that Atari places ontop the disk spinner pushes down too hard. Just adjust it after removing the label and your new jag should be like....new. I'm not an electrician so any advice would be grand on used systems. The dealer kind of made me nervous by sending me a warning not to remove it from the jaguar system it's in and do not "jostle " it because it's 20 years old. I purchased this for a CRAP TON O MONEY assuming it was in working order.....Once again any experienced tips would be appreciated. I would rather only hear from people that actually own or used to own one. I'm tired of speculation based on YouTube videos. Thanks!

Most of the hate that come from ANY JagCD game is due to critics actually never playing them. They watch one Angry video game nerd episode and their minds are made up. Most people you talk to do not have a cd unit and have never played this game.
Another reason is what I like to call the great blind generational leap. When cyber morph FIRST came out it would've blown all of you away. But because we've seen much better come afterwards that game just gets thrown in the category of ripoff. I'm amazed as critics will sit there and actually say "man these graphics are horrible even for the time". No they aren't and no they weren't.
Blue lighting is indeed fun. It reminds me of a cartoony Plane Arcade machine you would find at the movies. I dig it.

Yeah these are terrible corporate strategies. And they are especially dissapointing since your from the bloody future! The lynx was more successful than the jaguar. So dropping it was a hhorriblemove. Not to mention Ataris lynx was revolutionary at the time and there is very little reason it shouldn't have done well. Also the controller keypad should not be dismissed as "stupid buttons". They had overlays for each game and it really served to enhance the gameplay.

Perhaps because Time Warner Interactive published Primal Rage and Atari published Baldies.
Also, IF Wikipedia is accurate, that would make it the last version released on home consoles of the time in North America. Time Warner probably thought (1) Jaguar CD sales would be dismal due to the lack of traction the Jaguar got, and (2) People would be more inclined to buy it on another platform / already bought it on another platform.
SNES August 25, 1995
Genesis August 25, 1995
3DO November 14, 1995
32X November 14, 1995
Playstation November 14, 1995
Saturn November 14, 1995
Jaguar December 1995
Poor jag owners. Everybody on their street was playing their copy of primal rage way in November and jag owners had to wait for Christmas. I wonder if they held off on releasing until December because they thought that Christmas sales would be better?

There is nothing accurate About the entire second half of your post. The 3DO version has worse graphics and sound than the Jagcd version. It's loading time is also just as bad as the playstation version. The ONLY advantage you get with the 3DO version is the extra cinematic that were added in.....they were extremely clunky and awkward though. I doubt you own both a Jag cd and a 3do. Which means your assessment is based off of a youtube comparison video....the very same video that used a defective jaguar emulator and corrupt rom. I would like to end this statement by mentioning the biggest flaw with the 3DO version. It has an atrocious frame rate.Jag CD version, as lacking as it is, is better than the 32X one. The 32X version is barely a step above the Sega Genesis game. Super lazy port.
Do yourself a favor though and buy it on the Saturn, or via the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 on the PS2 or XBOX. It's a waste of money if you are paying a high price on any other platform, IMO (which you will be for the 32X or Jag CD versions). Even the 3DO one is better than the Jag CD one and it doesn't cost nearly as much either.

Battlemorph Walkthrough
in Atari Jaguar

The reason walk throughs are nearly nonexistent for Battlemorph is because people just dismiss this game as a crappy Cyber morph sequel. No one truly gives it an in depth play through. A non linear star fox with awesome bosses. Alot of love went into this Game. I must say, I'm impressed with the walk through. I'm trying to beat this game again (last Time I did was in 95) and your walk through has helped me over 6 times. Thank you so much for being a great gamer.
