  1. For all you people paying anything over $150 for a Pro controller, or thinking about it. Just don't. These controllers are severely overrated and severely over priced right now. I think there are a couple few guys hoarding Pro Controllers. Not that long ago, you could get them for $50 on ebay. 3 or 4 years ago or so. Then all of a sudden they dried up and disappeared mysteriously. Its a case of hoarding I believe. For years and years, you could find one for 50 bucks, now all of a sudden in the last 2 years, people are trying to sell them for 200+, even people listing the box only for hundreds. Do not but this crap for that money. You can play all Jaguar games perfectly well with the regular controller.

    end rant.

PS - I have owned a couple pro controllers over the years. On mine, I actually felt the d-pad was worse than regular Jag controller. Being far too stiff. I also don't remember hardly any games where I benefitted from the shoulder buttons or 3 extra face buttons.

I'm sorry but none of this is true. There are some games for the Jaguar that the pro controller is essential to have. Such as carnage, atari karts, any fighting game ever etc....Also just because a certain item was once cheaply sold doesn't change their rarity. How many pro controller reviews do you see on YouTube? A total of 2. And they are both foreign.

  2. At long last I finally found a pro controller for less that 700 bucks. Zero 5 was also being sold for a decent price. Now that I have tackled that mountain of rarity I must find a Jaguar CD unit AND Battlesphere. Oh but it doesn't end there! Let's just say for the sake of argument I sold my soul for a Jag CD unit (which is far rarer than Godly miracles I'm afraid ) i STILL would need to find the rarest jag cd game which is Towers 2! God.....if I had a time machine I would've never started this hobby.

  3. Classic Defender is a blast. I've played that a lot.

Defender 2000 is too busy and you really need a screen twice as large.

    Defender Plus is just unfinished.

Defender plus is a fun and trippy alternative. It seems finished enough for me to enjoy. Classic Defender annoys me because you can only go in one direction. Defender 2000 is specifically designed to utilize the games powerups. When you learn to use the pace effectively and your sporting a force field and two friendly zapper you really can accomplish anything.

  4. Just like the countless Boxed Jaguar games I've purchased in the past, I did the same for Defender 2000. It is one of the few Original Atari games retrofitted for the Jaguar system. When I usually receive a jaguar game in its original box it includes a cardboard, factory prefolded container with the games artwork plastered all over it.

This one game in particular arrived differently. Back in the day you could rent games from blockbuster and the like. Well defender came in a clear plastic case with a the logo and back art folded inside. The case snaps open and shut just like old rental cases. It's not a custom (or at least it doesn't seem like one) as the insert for the box art looks professionally done and has been there for awhile (let's just say I can tell it's been this way since 1995). Is this a common occurance? Is this certain box/container type rare or collectible? There is a certain sense of nostalgia seeing this thing. Let me know if anyone has received the same thing or if I've been royally ripped off for buying something under the guise: Game includes original box and instruction booklet l. Thanks for your time!

  5. I - War is one of my favorite games for the Jaguar. And no I'm not one of those guys with a limited library and thinks he has seen what the jaguar has to offer (like youtube reviews that go through kasumi ninja and and bubsy and think they've reviewed the jaguar ) I have some of the actual rare good games for it and I still pop in I-war from time to time. I keep getting stuck on level 20 though. So I just restart and enjoy playing all over again

  6. Play better shooters and you'll quickly see what's "wrong" with this game. That's not to say no fun can be had, but it's a low point for the genre as a whole.

Oh yes! Play better shooters! Why didn't I think of that? Because Trevor mcfur for the rare Jaguar multimedia system Is the ONLY shooter I have EVER played in my lifetime. When I introduce myself to what a shooter is supposed to be like THEN AND ONLY THEN will I be able to make a fair assessment right? Brilliant!

  7. Let's put aside the obvious glaring faults such as the lack of game play music and the rushed preproduction title screen keyboard music. So far the ONLY thing I see wrong with this game is the developers not giving it that polished feeling with good music. Otherwise. ...This is a damn good shooter.

I watch numerous videos of players attempting to trash this game. The majority of the videos the gamers are actually surprised at how fun it is and they admit they were just going off on the games notorious reputation. The graphics are stellar for the time. The bosses looked absolutely fantastic and not to mention the content. This isn't exactly a short game. Each planet has its own Astroid pre level with its own unique boss, then you actually play the planet and it's unique boss. So far that's a total of 10 bosses out of 5 planets and 10 separate levels. There is a plethora of power ups and shields to help with the increasing difficulty. Not to mention for a game that is notorious for having a glaring weakness in the the sound department. ...IT HAS FANTASTIC SOUND FX! From the exploding blobs to the gadgety cyber scorpions the sounds are fun. At times I'm pretty sure music would've hidden these sounds. The characters spout crazy and corny cat puns that are acceptable for this time period. The game all and all is a fun installment for the Jaguar. So what's wrong with it again?

  8. However if we want to point out negatives towards the 3DO version it's kind of embarrassing that this all powerful system with the advantage of CD doesn't look any better than the enhanced Jaguar cartridge version. Now I'm talking crap about the 3DO. :)

  9. Those are completely optional though--they don't stack all 90 levels together in one long run. The Original Encounter is basically the Jaguar level set, with the same type of cut-down stages. However, the game gives you the *option* to play through each of the original six episodes with their original level lengths. You have to select those separately from the 30 stage Original Encounter. I don't see having more options as being a negative.

I actually never said it was a negative attribute for 3DO to have more options. I actually said it was a positive attribute for the Jaguar version to have fewer options. I very much enjoy the 3DO version and I'm not speaking against is (accept for the animated graphic for the machine gun when it shoots...it looks terrible in this version ) No the jag separates multiple episodes and collides them together in a one story run. The 3DO has every chapter from each separate game. The "original 30 missions" has nothing to do with that.

  10. It just goes to show you the capabilities of the Atari jaguar. Their port stands up If not surpasses(in some aspects) the 3DO cd system version. The Jag port does have fewer levels but that actually works for me. The original pc or 3do versions had EVERY level and I would just get lost and frustrated and give up playing. The Jag shoots you through most of the episodes but cuts out all those middle stages of puzzles and mazes. I would also like to point out that the New Playstation network port looks horrible compared to the jag version because it is based on the Dos.

  11. Regarding Raiden:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ltnyd_-HuQ

The Jag version is featured alongside others.

BTW the whole Battle of the Ports channel is pretty good, I wish Yakumo did the better/more popular games later on as he became better at filming/making these videos.

This guy is full of crap. He has some obvious vendetta against the jaguar as he rips it apart and CONTINUOUSLY rips it even when he moves on to another system. After watching every second of this extremely long video....it is absolutely obvious that the jaguar version is superior to every version shown accept the first two (Arcade and Tommy port) I'm not just a jag fan, I'm a person with eyes and ears and sensory perception and I can differentiate quality by simple ccomparisos.

  12. Dude!! Great information, i will have to try this out. I love Phase Zero and consider it to be one of the better games on the Jaguar. I'm always sad when I get to that final checkpoint in level 5 and can't go any further... Thanks for the info, who knew those levels were lurking around all along..

I'm very surprised this information isn't readily available. When I discovered it I thought it wasn't a big deal. Then I realized very few people even know about the glitch! Make sure you do it on that green screen. Not the options one. Just the initial start up screen where you choose your options or begin combat

  13. I love this game! It's challenging to find (rarely pops up on ebay) and when you do find it the price is outrageous. Just like the 2 other retrofitted jaguar games (Tempest 2000, Missle command 3d) it has an playable original breakout port. Unfortunately it's the Atari 2600 rainbow version and the game ends at 2 levels. The main game however is alot of fun. There are a total of 10 levels each with 5 stages. (A total of 50 levels!) Not to mention the bonus games you play once you complete a level. Pong, blaster etc....This game is definitely worth it to own. I'm glad i finally have all 3 retrofitted jag titles! (if only they made a Pacman or Donkey Kong 2000)

  14. I keep searching the forums and see no mention of any information of levels past 5 on phase zero. Just in case people do not know...There are a total of 9 levels on the phase zero cartridge. You can't access them because you can't beat level 5. However there is a cheat or glitch. At the options screen press and hold the corresponding number of the level you wish to play (1-9) then while you continue to hold that number push and hold the options button. Now while still holding the options let go of the number button and the screen will flash red. Now let go of options and begin your mission. There are even fully written mission briefings for levels 6-9. Most are playable, unfortunately the final boss fight in level 9 is impossible because the game will not allow you to access the second navigation point. Still having 9 levels instead of 5 makes this feel like a more complete game!
