Status Updates posted by GoldLeader

  1. I get it,  but I don't think the sudden shift in nomenclature from UFOs to UAPs will have the desired impact.  UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon) is the Military's way of telling The Government that we don't need to assume extraterrestrial origin...Which is something often associated with UFOs...

They're all UFOs to me.  (At this point in time)  it still sounds weird when someone goes out of their way say UAPs instead.

I'm surprised they haven't changed it to UATs (Unidentified Arial Threats) since they want us to be afraid of "Evil Aliens" from other planets or dimensions or evil flying machines made by other countries. Anything in the sky that does not obey the "laws of physics" is a possible threat and we must be afraid of it. Be afraid! Be very afraid! Oh yeah, and remember that none of those things are made by the USA. There are no secret USA space programs. That Fluxliner with a United States flag on it that you might have seen zipping around in the sky was all in your mind. :D

      You've been probed haven't you!!!

    4. GoldLeader

Son,  I haven't been probed since the Clinton Era!  But, with any luck my dry spell will come to an end soon!

  2. And then?...And then?...And then?...And then?...

And then I forgot the name of that movie!!    Earlier tonight,  it suddenly popped into my head.  I could clearly remember Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott...Yet the name of the movie escapes me.  (Do you know it without looking?)  Dude!  Sweet!

I suppose I should take solace in the fact that it was 22 years ago...But remembering that just makes me feel old...

      I knew as soon as I read And then?...And then?...And then?...And then?...😆

Always wondered how many fast food drive throughs attendants pulled this routine on their last day or maybe to get fired after seeing that movie.

    3. GoldLeader

I fully remembered the movie...Just not the title haha!

    4. PlaidMouse

That was a fun movie! Zoltan was awesome. :)

  3. Drinking Games,  off the top of my head, (Fantasy edition):

Shadow and Bone:  Drink every time you hear the word Grisha, Saints, or The Fold.

Wheel of Time:  Drink every time a character says Light or Dark (Including words like Darkfriends).

Disenchantment:  Drink every time you hear the word Elfo or Bean.

Mostly D. I find I visit less frequently and it is mostly a status update thing. I loved them on the front page. Ah well. Everything evolves. :)

    3. GoldLeader

OK just wanted to put something dumb over here and see if anyone still sees old Status Updates   (hehaaaa)... ;)

    4. bubufubu

Or devolves, in this case.  I loved seeing the Status Updates on the front page.  I keep hoping that this was a simple mistake and they'll be back where they belong soon.

  4. Today I'm driving around listening to random, blindly chosen songs on my MP3 player and this obnoxious noise song plays!  Sounded like a fax machine.  Thought it must be some harsh noise from Japan.  I stopped at the light and looked down.  FIREBALL for the Atari Supercharger!  Oh.  How'd that get there?  See,  I also have my Supercharger games stored in my iTunes (heh).

  5. I oughta make me a company;  Call'er Hard Workers Inc.  Our first game will be called Knight Rider: Don't Hassle the Hoff ya Bastards!   Pre Order now on digital cartridge or Micro SD 8 Track for the Amico!!

    1. GoldLeader

Game play would prolly be like Breakout and Donkey Kong,  crossed with Asteroids Deluxe and Resident Evil.

    2. Master Phruby

      Master Phruby

I'd buy that for a dollar.

  6. Are you here with me?   Give a like...Curious how many people are checking Status Updates now this way.  Thank you.

I like that I don't have to go to the user profile to see images and videos, but it probably won't be long before I start forgetting to check the activity stream.

First time back here, in a few months... hello :)

      ^Hiya Jacob!

  7. So I moseyed on up,  played the game,  got a pretty High Score,  and entered my initials   A S S

    4. frankodragon

You bet your ASS-teroids many of us did at the arcades. Of course you had to make sure no one was around otherwise someone would notice.

  8. Anyone else notice the Atari 2600 on South Park the other night?  It was in Mackey's old bedroom,  untouched since the 80's...

(My phone camera sucks but here's a pic)

    1. Rogerpoco

I definitely noticed that, it was pretty awesome!!!

80's PC stuff there too, I think some of it may have been styled after the Commodore tho I could be mistaken.

  9. I think my truck drives a lot better now that its got brakes.

    2. john_q_atari

Your truck should drive perfectly fine without brakes. Stopping however is another matter.

    3. GoldLeader

True story,  after my brakes went out,  well both front ones anyway...(maybe the rear drums helped a bit, if I really planned ahead)...I still did 3 deliveries and gave a woman a ride to the shelter,  before heading to the mechanic.  It was 2 degrees out that day and she asked me for a ride,  I said, "OK But I have no brakes!  You are taking your life in your hands if you accept a ride from me."  I think she said "Cool" and climbed in.

    4. GoldLeader

It's also really nice not having to hear the sound of grinding metal,  and I don't mean my music....

  10. I had a thought (and it may have been a "unique thought",  but that's another story)., or I may be high (or low or medium)... I think there was  a period in Life where the MUSIC (almost) Never stopped!   And maybe everyone will have a unique perception here...but for me it was 1983-1995.

    1. GoldLeader

PS  Nobody tell the Universe I figured this out.  There may be consequences IDK,  haha...

    2. Lord Mushroom

      Lord Mushroom

That is very similar to me. The music played for me the vast majority of time in 1982-1992.

It's 60 here.  But Wednesday it's going to drop to 20 and then snow.  Crazy annoying weather.

    3. GoldLeader

@thanatos Where are you at?  (If ya don't mind answering).  Other than a State of Confusion, haha...Your weather intrigues me.   We had a 55 degree day last week and I got so hot in my truck I had to turn on the AC!  Tomorrow that will not be a problem.

  12. Wild 9, Crash Team Racing,  Blades of Vegeance, and Legend.  These are some of the video games I clearly recall playing during Super Bowls past...But this year I watched half the game with my dad in LifeCare (assisted living recovering from a fall) and I'm watching the other half now at home...It's recorded (about a half hour buffer while I made food) so I can fast forward if things get boring etc.

    1. GoldLeader

But I'll probably play some CollectorVision Phoenix after the  game ;)

    2. DragonGrafx-16

I played various shmups on Sega Saturn during this Super Bowl. lol

    3. ls650

I played a board game called Tanks on Tanks during the Superbowl. On my drive home there was almost no traffic, making for a pleasant trip.

    4. joeatari1

Were Mayo and Bread invited to the club as well?  I would hate for those guys to get left out!

  14. Do you have a good go-to song,  to think of,  when you get an annoying song stuck in your head?  Like what good song do you use to push the crap song out?

Oskar Blues is Great Stuff!   Plus pils, (pills) for PILSner,...yeah What's not to Love?

It's 3:23PM here so I just finished my morning coffee, and ...Ya know, I think I will take a shower then run up and get some beer!  That sounds lovely.

    4. Max_Chatsworth

@GoldLeader Glad to provide some inspiration! ;)

  16. The game is tied right now, yet in a foggy, vague memory within the last 2 weeks or so,  I recall someone casually saying the words, "Kansas City Super Bowl Champs"...Was this a dream?  Was it a man from the Future?  Will it even come to pass?    I guess we'll see...

    (Not a joke BTW) 😕

    1. GoldLeader

Note to self:  Game was tied 14-14 coming out of halftime as I wrote this.

  18. I was on Walgreen's website YESTERDAY.  For a booster shot it said, WALK INS ONLY  NO APPOINTMENTS.  After waiting in line today for 40 minutes I was treated to a big sign that said due to demand one must schedule an appointment.  Followed by a big QR code thing that does nothing (Like all QR thingies).  I asked the lady, she said I need an appointment.  I said OK then let's set one up.  She said We don't do that here.  ???  I said %^#%!! but only in my head.  Then I asked How do I do that when your website says No Appointments?  She said just download an app to your phone and...No!  I'm not downloading anything to my phone!  (To get my deal I need to keep my phone below 1G each month and...Doesn't matter!)  Why do these assholes always want access to my phone???    I need beer... and chips and guac,  and I need it fast.

Yeah,  it was so easy for the first 2 shots, seems like I had an appointment (?)...Haven't looked lately but there was lots of places I could go so I'm gonna go elsewhere...Used to like Walgreen's pharmacy too, but next time I need one,  I'm going to find somewhere else...

    3. frankodragon

Walgreens has been weird lately with everything including their savings card schnanigans.  I'll be the last person without one of those smart phones as I don't want one and don't need one either.

    4. ClassicGMR

Probably one of the few advantages working for Walmart is having a pharmacy right at work. I just checked in every shift until they had it in stock then got it on my way out the door.

  19. GoldLeader's Tip of the Day:  Never slap a Buffalo ...and...stand there.

Had a friend...talked slow sometimes until Everyone in the room was listening...Then he'd up and hit us with something like this!

  20. So,  Game Stop is getting into the NFT biz...(Uck!)...Does this really surprise anyone?  I don't think I've really liked that place since about 2005 (at the latest)...And their stock is up 20% in premarket.

Well, ya heard it here first.   (Probably)  :)

    1. GoldLeader

PS  To be clear,  even if there's money to be made,  I'm not saying anything one way or the other,  about investing.  Fridays are often down days for the market,  and unless you're an expert, I am not recommending anything...I just found it interesting.

    2. Reaperman

It's not entirely off-brand for them. But what they need to do is build a time machine, go back 10 years, and close 3/4 of their stores before it's too late.

    3. GoldLeader

Or maybe, just maybe they could have had a passion for video games,  an interest in "retro" because it was fun, not because it was a cash grab, carried more stuff, hired better people, trained said people better, carried more controllers for Every system, carried all versions of Flashbacks, kept bobbleheads and dumbass products to a minimum, not bombard customers with the latest thing as soon as they walk through the door, listened to customers, paid attention to market trends, carried homebrews, given more than 3 cents on the dollar for trade-ins, carried what people wanted, offered to special order things when they (inevitably) Don't have it in, and kept boxes for All used games to the best of their (admittedly limited) ability...

  21. When I was a kid I had this pinball machine.  It was It was maybe 3-4 feet long or so, elevated about 4-6 inches above the ground, had what looked like 3/4 scale balls, but it had Real Bumpers and Real Flippers.  The bumpers lit up when hit, too.  Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called.  Once, I got a ball forever stuck under the rubber band triangle and the company sent me a free 5 pack of balls.  It seemed a lot cooler than all the toy pinballs ya can buy now,  and was almost like the real thing.  And I've never seen one on eBay, but like I say I can't remember what it was called, or the company that made it.  (Kinda wish I still had it)...

The main difference, and again, it could be I'm misremembering, was that I had 2 flippers, and I know there were areas on the playfield that were triangles fenced off by big rubber bands, but if you hit the ball hard enough it could go under the rubber band and get stuck, which happened to me...

    3. Keatah

There were so many of these. The one I had as a kid was item (B) and possibly (C):

    4. GoldLeader

^That Item C looks familiar (seems like the same form factor anyway)!  I bet it wasn't that the bumpers themselves lit up, just that triangle light in the middle!  That's probably it.  Thanks Keatah!

Update:  The sun is already out...Melting it up a little bit,  mainly in the roads...And ya know,  I was just gonna be lazy and not even shovel,  but I think my EXGF may stop by later and she may be bringing music and beer so I better bust out a quick path.  Don't want her tracking stuff in to the house.

  24. So wouldn't you Always be feeding your Gremlins after Midnight?   (Or Mogwai excuse me (heh)).  It always bugged me that they didn't make that rule clearer.  They could have said sunup until midnight...I mean, I get it,  horror movies love the word Midnight...Sounds sinister...Seemed more evil when I went to bed at 10 O'Clock as a young buck.  Nowadays staying up til 2AM,   Midnight is not as scary as 3AM!

    1. Razzie.P
