      @cybercylon: That's actually a pretty common occurrence that usually has a non-ghostly explanation. If the previous home owner (or owner of wood furniture in the home) was a cigar smoker then the odor of smoke tends to get trapped in anything made of wood and you won't smell it most of the time.       ...trapped odor of cigar smoke. Now that's not to say that your house couldn't have been haunted, but more than not (in my experience as a paranormal investigator at least) there is usually a disappointingly mundane explanation for phantom smells like cigar smoke or perfume.

      Thanks for the replies! I also heard footsteps one night running up the stairs, I had a roommate back then and assumed he was home, but found out that morning he'd spent the night at his GF's house.
