  1. (Deep breath,  here goes) The Internet (for purchases) kind of sucks! Sure you have eBay and Amazon, but what else?  Where are all the "other" auction sites? (And pay per bid sites with limited selection do Not Count).  Ever see the ads at the bottom of ebay?  Whatever obscurity you just searched for, there are now 6 sites claiming you can get it  for 70% off!  No You Can't!!!!  Ever click?  They are either Search Engines to Other Search Engines or they take you back to eBay like you've never heard of that...Didn't think to look there, even though that's where you just were!

I tried Mercari recently to buy something obscure for my missus, and, while I hasten to add this wasn't Mercari's fault, the seller I dealt with apparently wasn't interested in sending the item I purchased. Mercari didn't do very much about it, but did eventually void the transaction at my request. I know everyone hates eBay for various reasons, but there's a reason that none of the other auction sites ever gain much traction against it.

I find my ebay experiences to generally still be as good as what took place in the late 1990's. Except for the near universal complaint of overpricing.

Had a few bad transactions here and there, but nothing that ebay themselves didn't make right.
