  1. OK, so I've really just plugged it in and tried it out a few minutes, but so far I'm loving it! This is certainly not meant to be a review. I probably wouldn't do a full on review unless I'd spent a lot of time with this, and there are people who do that way better than I ...And even then I think my way of looking at the world can be quite different than normal people...But I wanted to share a quick first impression and a quick comment or two. The title screen has options (when you push select) to sort the games by 2 Player games, Games played recently, Games played the most, By publisher, by title, etc...Which is pretty cool. And when you first pull it out of the box, it feels almost like a sculpture of a Mini NES in your hand. The first thing you'll probably do is try and open the lid, only to find out it's carved on and doesn't open haha...But it's a cute system. For the most part I didn't notice any sound anomalies, but you might. I'm not claiming to be an expert here especially when some of these games I've only played once on a clone system off a multicart or maybe even never played at all. I only thought one game seemed squirrely soundwise but that might be the beer talking ...I've only tried a handful so far. And IMO the thing looks Great on my LCD TV! FWIW I pumped the sound out to my giant speakers using the TV's optical out into my receiver... But the main thing I wanted to say is that all of my Wii Classic controllers seem to work on this! The white one which reminds me of SNES controllers with the cord coming out the wrong side,...The black ones which look like Playstation controllers crossed with SNES controllers, and it's funny I don't remember what any of these controllers are actually called...LOL...But it does NOT work with my HORI Fighting Stick Wii! And this is a bummer since I consider it a favorite and seem to recall it working for VC games, or at least Arcade compilations by Namco and Data East, etc. (It's been a while)...Also the HORI works on the menu but not the actual games for some reason. On the games it's like you turn it on and your guy just heads left...Buttons work, joystick does not. Here's some quick pics of controllers that worked and the one that didn't...I like how big it looks compared to this Mini! (Please excuse the mess.) Worked! The HORI Fighting Stick did Not work... Cheers!
  2. I definitely view the SD slot as icing on the cake...But I appreciate the way you've spelled it out here for some people who may not think the same way, or who were banking on it having greater compatibility...
  3. I gotta confess I laughed at this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Mini-NES-Classic-Biggest-Baller-Edition-/252631691027?hash=item3ad205af13:g:gXoAAOSwImRYJe-T
  4. I couldn't even get a non Nintendo controller...Let alone a Nintendo branded one...Yet I keep thinking they may be easier to come by than the console if I'm patient and do some digging...
  5. OK Now that I've read that and this time comprehended it (lacking sleep is a hell of a thing!) ... I'm pretty happy that hopefully they'll be shipping mine out pretty soon too!
  6. I got the same email...The way that it's phrased I really thought it had shipped! But when I put in the tracking number, I got the exact same message you got. Still if they have the shipping labels, Well And if it is in stock...It shouldn't be long before they ship them.
  7. I'm kind of feeling like I'm on a roll right now!... 2 Minis last night and yesterday I got my email saying My Atari Flashback Portable has shipped! Those were supposed to be delayed until the 29th, but I ordered it directly from AtGames, with special thanks to hardcoresince84 on that one. I better get a lotto ticket with this kind of luck!
  8. I was kind of thinking the same. Another lady approached but was unable to get one, she would have been number 8. While they were talking it came out that the first one in line had been there since 4PM, another person who didn't get one asked her if it was for her kids. Her reply cracked me up. She said, "Oh no, They don't want one! It's for ME!" FWIW We all grabbed bean bag chairs shaped like emojis and we sat on them (as if we were going to buy them). Then before midnight, we all put them back. At this point I said, "You've heard of 'Impulse buying'?...This is 'Impulse un-buying!" But the employees were really cool and laid back anyway (unusual for Wal-Marts...really unusual for this location)...
  9. I like Zelda games as much as the next guy (or maybe a little more), but I like some other games even better (though most would disagree with some of my choices)...In fact, My Favorite 3 NES games aren't even included here: Deadly Towers, Dragon Warrior (series), and Faxanadu.
  10. FWIW I've somewhat changed my tune as to what Nintendo is doing here. I wouldn't have believed it until I found out that a Wal-Mart serving about 80,000 people was getting only 6 units! And then I heard the low numbers to all the other stores so I'm guessing this has to be intentional. My thought is they're trying to create huge buzz and free headlines through intentional shortages at first, which I believe will be relieved when they ship out large orders in December (or so)...Then when people see them on shelves right before the holidays, it will already be stuck in their minds that these things are limited and maybe they are lucky to have found one, and maybe they better buy a couple while they can... Just my two cents...
  11. That is a pretty cool looking joystick! I just got my NES Classic Mini (bought after standing in line at Wal-Mart (story in the mini thread)) and when they told us they had 3 extra controllers, they then brought out 3 Emio controllers, which resembled NES Pads with Turbo buttons. They looked just like the real deal minus the Nintendo name. And Yes as I recall there was some kind of guide book (pamphlet?) included...I also pointed out to the people who bought them that they were aftermarket and not made by Nintendo...Nobody cared about that. I didn't get one because they only had 3, and I honestly only glanced at it, but I'm thinking the guide book was designed to look like a knock-off issue of Nintendo Power (Minus The name)...
  12. WOOO HOO! The proud father of twins! Haha! I was at Wal-Mart earlier today buying some groceries and I decided to ask about these. I was told they were only getting 6! I said "6 Cartons?" Nope! 6! Jesus maybe everyone on AtariAge is right about the shortages I whispered unheard in my own head. I was told I could wait in line and I could get one at one minute after Midnight. So I went out of the house right after the Daily Show finished and got to Wal-Mart where I was given the Number 5. One more person arrived within 10 minutes and we all talked and waited for 2 hours. 4 Ladies and 2 guys, for those counting. While talking the other guy said he'd called around. He said Target's getting 12 and The GameStop next to Target (The one everybody forgets about) is getting 6 and he wasn't sure about the GameStop in the Mall, but he assumed 6 or 12. Pretty soon I said, "Hey what about the Wal-Mart out on Campstool?" (AKA The Wal-Mart on the other side of town that everyone forgets about). Nobody knew, so we asked this nice, hardworking death metal kid named Michael who was Wal-Mart's Electronics Support Manager as he'd been hanging out with us a little bit and was there to turn away some more people and answer the more and more frequent phone calls. He said "They're getting 6, and plan on putting them out at 6:30AM (for some reason)". Odd since they're open 24/7. At this point, some of us in the group began scheming to get over there after our purchases here to buy more for gifts and kids etc...Mostly it was myself, this Air Force guy, and these 2 Latina ladies, one of whom had waited at Wal-Mart, starting at 4PM! Before leaving they said they found 3 extra controllers. These were aftermarket jobbers (Turbo Controllers made by Emio or something like that) and sold for about $14, but I didn't get one as I asked fourth and they only had three...We were led up to the register at 12:01 and Michael handed us each one NES Mini. As I left the parking lot some girls were already taking selfies with themselves and the Minis...I figured it was bit cold, but all in all a nice night for little drive, So I might as well head over to the other Wal-Mart, and if there were already people there waiting I could always buy some more groceries, because let's face it you can never have enough groceries. When I arrived at the second Wal-Mart, it was like a ghost town inside (like normal late at night). I saw an employee and headed toward him, but he ducked into an aisle, then around a corner and began to stock some shelves. I finally caught up to him and it turned out, he was their Support Manager and I began asking questions. Slowly he began to tell me that the shipment was misplaced and they couldn't seem to find it in the back. So I asked if someone could at least run back and take a look around. As I was talking to him I saw the Air Force guy from the other store approaching with another guy behind him. I told him, "These people probably want one too". At this point he goes, "Well OK Let me check on this." And he began to talk on his radio asking if they ever found the misplaced Nintendo Minis. He then told us, "Well there's one left and it's at register 11". So I said, "Let's go! We can just flip a coin when we get there!"...Needless to say I won the toss! Cheers!
  13. Yup! One of those instances where I should have consulted the Wizards of AtariAge (i.e. read a few threads) before starting my quest. On the plus side I needed to hit those other stores anyway in most instances...
  14. So they're delayed? (Wish I'd known this) Maybe that's why I couldn't find one... I checked Wal-Mart; They didn't' really know what I was talking about. I checked Gamestop; They seemed to be pretending to know what I was talking about, but just said "No" when I asked if they had them. Maybe they knew, it was very hard to tell. But before all of those I checked Target. They had Flashback 7s, and those Genesis jobbers, even the portable Genesis which (unlike my old blue one) Does have an SD slot, but no cart slot...But no Atari Flashback Portables and no employees within yelling distance...Oh and I checked Bed, Bath, and Beyond and was told "not yet"... The Quest Continues...

  16. BTW I do have an NES pad that was wired to control Atari. I got it off of ebay and yeah it's OK...My exact one may be a bit worn. I was expecting it to be a like new controller to start with, but it was used...So if I were to wire one myself I'd probably start with a fresh new controller...
  17. New Simpsons, New Son of Zorn, New Family Guy,..And yet I kinda want to watch the Raiders Game...Decisions, decisions...At least my DVR will get the Walking Dead stuff...

  18. On the internet as in life; I have opinions. And I think they are valid opinions. And in terms of a friendly discussion, I will discuss said opinions. I may even have a bounty of great information on why I think my opinions are right for me. What I probably won't do, whether we're discussing what games are the best, or what consoles are the best, or what controllers, or what monitors etc...is tell you Your opinion, nor will I use my opinion to invalidate yours...I won't use my intellect or knowledge to belittle you or tell you why I am right. And I try not to use a holier than thou tone that would negate what I am saying anyway...But that's me. I like to hear other people's opinions, even if they are different from my own.
  19. I used to think we were just being paranoid about the "low print run" idea... But now I'm starting to get worried, too...
  20. CRT or LCD? The easiest way to look at this is that it's an opinion and a preference...I happen to Like both, admittedly for different reasons. IMO this isn't like an event that can be fact checked or an argument to be won or lost...I would never need to explain that I like the color green better than red; It's just an opinion. Someone can give me 30 reasons why red is better or tell me historically that I should like red better or even show me some graph but my opinion is not going to change....And why would it?
