  1. A little different than what you're asking, but I know places around here jacked up the price of Pac-Man when it came out. It started in the usual stores as a regular priced game, but when I got my copy, ONE DAY after my friend told me it had come out (and he bought his at $29.99); I had my mom drive to 3 or 4 stores before we found one where it wasn't Sold Out. So, even though I'd played it and knew it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, buying into the hype and mania, if you will, I felt I HAD to have it. I paid $37.95 for it at a place ironically called PAY N SAVE. Another one that seemed high, was when I paid $34.95 for Mega Force, which I had played on the kiosk at Montgomery Wards and was just blown away by the graphics (flicker and all)...Now, why we were cutting up the boxes to send parts to 20th Century Fox, I don't remember...A rebate perhaps?
  2. I'll agree with those who say yes to the 7800 for mostly the same reasons. I think I have others in my head but they won't make a lot of sense to a normal person. For one thing I see a lot of potential in the 7800 that may not have been utilized back in the day; And like I say, I can't begin to argue that as any kind of selling point, nor even explain it to anyone to where it makes sense. It's kind of like my reasons for Always and completely preferring the old Battlestar Galactica to the lame one SeeFee tried to thrust upon us some years back, where they ruined the actual universe for it right off the bat, But that is another topic (that I'd be smart to avoid). The homebrew scene feels like vindication in many ways for the system, and the games are not arcade accurate but still feel like the home versions, if that makes sense. There's something a bit endearing to me about that. For example, I bought Astro Blaster and it was way better than the 2600 could have Ever done, but still felt different than the arcade game (with it's multi color sprites), then I bought Dungeon Stalker because I already have Dark Cavern on 2600 and I love it, Then I bought Armor Attack II because it Never existed in the arcades, but probably should have, and Rikki & Vikki is Awesome as an NES-Like game, but native to the Atari 7800...I also recommend getting either an Edladdin controller, or getting an NES type pad for 7800 (Either a Europad or converted NES type off eBay, etc.). Plus, back to original retail, I personally really liked the game Jinks (Yeah, it was me, YMMV), because it felt like an advanced Atari 2600 game. It was weird, quirky, original and had different color palettes for different levels, plus its own artistic style, much like an old 2600 game might have. In fact, that might be it; When all is said and done, playing an Atari 7800 still feels like I'm playing an Atari. It has its own feel compared to, say, an NES, which generally has smaller sprites and uses tiles*... I'm glad you bought one. I hope you like it! I'll always have a huge soft spot for the 7800! *I'm not a programmer, so take my off the cuff comments as observations, not something where I'm actually comparing the machines... Cheers!
  3. Certainly higher than it should be, but in his defense, that's one of the nicest ones I've seen. It really does look like maybe it was never used, just displayed...Joysticks look new. Although, on second glance, it does have an RCA to Coax adapter...If it was never used, would it have one of those? Maybe he displayed it hooked up to the TV? Or, perhaps I'm giving this way too much thought from my tired brain.
  4. I took the plunge!  Bought a used black Wii U (32Gb) @ the pawn shop today!  It came with one gamepad, but no charging cradle/AC for the pad,  so I ordered one off eBay.  Now I need to charge the pad, then get through to a human on Nintendo's Customer Service to reset the Password (which can be done if the pawn shop guy's right).  System's a little scuffed, the gamepad looks Great though, aside from 1 scuff on a trigger, everything else buffed out with some elbow grease.   Any game recommendations?

Oh yeah, the beauty of the Wii is you can get a ton of wii ware. And you can load it all on. My upright arcade (II) has so much Wiiware.

I'm not entirely sure how it works, of course there's some kind of emulator and I haven't really got round to playing about with it, but I have gone through the hard drive folder and found I have a huge archive of it all. Also during the Hyperspin menu.

I'll have to carve out some time to play some of it. There is a lot of fun games like that Boxing game.

      Edit: added for clarity.

I'm assuming you can still load it onto the SD with some software. You can't buy it anymore, but if you have it you can shoehorn it on and play loads of games without cds.

Well, All told,  I now have my regular Wii,  Plus a modded Wii that no longer plays discs, but has emulators etc....And now this Wii U.  :)

  6. I need to mow my lawn...Maybe drink a beer or get some iced tea going., add some new songs to my MP3 Player first,   But then (Wild Hair);  I'm thinking of going to the pawn shop to buy a Nintendo Wii U, if it's still there...

Well they are pretty awesome. Some really inventive games and they must be (what we say here) 'Cheap as Chips' now most of them!

(Chips being French Fries (but fatter).

      * French Fries were created in Belgium a country nextTo but not in France, but American's don't know where Belgium is. 🤪

  7. Isn't it just "Grolsch"? Oh, except you're supposed to say the G backwards, Roll the R, and stand on your head while pronouncing the final H.
  8. Wow! That Stout looks Yummy! It would go well with homebrews and the Phoenix I think... I hope ya posted it in the beer thread...(If I weren't going to bed in 5 seconds I'd link to the thread haha...) Well, OK...
  9. @BigDumer This post is the funniest thing I've read in a long time! And even though I'm half asleep (and should really go to bed) and I had to think and process it...And it's from 3 days ago, and I'm 3 pages back...You win the Internet as far as I'm concerned. It's gonna be hard to sleep when I keep laughing myself back into waking consciousness...
  10. According to Google maps, I've been to 131 places, in 3 cities and in 2020 I have gone 18% around the world, traveled 4,381 miles that is...

But now, suddenly I'm wondering,...What would my mileage be if I added up all the miles spent on Twisted Metal games and added in the "Stunt Mode" from San Francisco Rush 2049 on Dreamcast?

      DuggerVideoGames

I used to drive in the wrong direction into oncoming traffic in NASCAR 2001 on the PS2 at over 200 mph at tracks like Talladega.  Does that count as mileage, or is that negative mileage?

I always make my own tacos. We buy Jardine's taco sauce. I't actually really tough to find a good taco sauce, lots of trial and error.

I've not tried any of them, I think there are only about a dozen Taco Bells in the UK.

  12. Here's a new forgotten memory*

    The Powers of Matthew Star

Anyone remember it?  Me neither.   I mean,   I remember the name, but that's it.

*I like this sentence.  If it's forgotten is it a memory?  And if memories are old, how can it be a new one?    It's like A History of a Time to Come all over again...

@JacobZu7zu7 You Belong to the City.  Forgot about that one for a sec, even though it's in my iTunes :)

Harden my Heart, I remember the video had like a Repulsion thing with hands reaching out of the walls... but have we been made of ICE before?! She looks like an IMAGIC character come to life.

  13. Good question! Favorite: Adventure, Pinball, RPGs, games with mazes and robots in them, Shmups (OK I can't believe I just used that word after thinking it was so dumb when it first came out), 80's Arcade games, Atari Games!, Games with Haunted Houses in them, Platformers, Flatpormers, Car Combat, Racing games if they have spectacular crashes or stunt modes, Games with a cool art style, 90's games I played at home when I was in college, Ultimate Qix because I believe that game on Genesis to be a genre in itself, Games with a picture of an arcade game on the box, Games with Ghosts, Games with Castles, Action, Games with evil planets to explore and things to shoot, Survival Horror, Futuristic looking games, Games with vampires, zombies, or werewolves, ...Text adventures based on racing golf shmups (OK Not really, just seeing if you're still paying attention), Most vector games, Overhead rabbit simulators, War games if they have Warlords or Tank Pongs, Bowling games if they came with the Wii, games with cool graphics and music, Puzzle games like Bust A Move or Super Columns, Things that have dragons, Star Wars or Tron games,...and whatever Mr. Do! is. Least Favorite: Sports (Except Mutant League, NBA Jam, and Tecmo Bowl, plus maybe some golf, pool, or mini golf games), card games, Probably many FPSs (but the jury is kinda out on that one), Tile games (Except for Mahjong on Game Boy or Neo Geo Pocket, but that's different), games that would probably be cool IF I spoke Japanese, Fighters (Except Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat series), Flight simulators where ya have to read the instructions (So...Flight simulators), Licensed games (Ha! Remember when most of them sucked?), Baseball games because there is way too many (for Famicom/Super Famicom), Pachinko games, Seriously can a fella buy just one game lot for Super Famicom without a dozen Baseball, tile, and pachinko games?? And how come every pawn shop is filled with So many Sports games for Genesis and 6 copies of Top Gun for NES? Games with lousy control, and games like Twisted Metal for PS3 where all they had to frikkin' do was let me control my goddang car with the D-Pad so I could Rule the Road like always but NOOOOOOOooooooooo!
  14. Did you say Half a Million? The only thing I see these guys producing half a million of...is Farts.
  15. Thanks for asking... What'd they say?
  16. I'd been meaning to post that I got the game! I've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to open it, but that will happen soon enough. I hope everyone gets theirs and none are lost in the mail. To CollectorVision and everyone here: CHEERS!!
  17. Something good on TV every day! Hmmm... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Video-Master-Olympic-Home-Tv-Video-Game-Console-System-Britain-1970-s-Box/164207830945?hash=item263b8ca7a1:g:sssAAOSwWbReJM3Y
  18. Actually no. There was a slightly messed up piece of the cab itself that had been bondoed (if ya can believe it), but that was only a couple of inches or so of real estate. At the time I sold it, it needed the rubber doughnut shaped gasket at the center of that 360 degree joystick, which made it center itself. The original had cracked and decayed, I assume that would be an easy fix if the part could be had. (Trying to remember it all here...) about the last 20+ years of its life were spent in a room at my dad's house and it was never really played at that point, but it worked fine if you turned it on except for the joystick not centering. PS I sold it for 6 times what I paid for it!
  19. ^I watched about 90 seconds worth and I gotta admit, until now I had no idea how a "Pong Quest" game could work. Now, I think it would be fun, if it was on a console and played with a joystick for exploring/moving/overworld type stuff, and a Paddle for the Pong battles. And yet, Atari has never mentioned whether or not this game would grace their unconsole. And even though "No news is good news", I highly doubt it will.
  20. Bet you were Streaming like never before!
  21. I believe you....But rarely get the chance to use that cute little confused icon. I believe it was some company called Nintendo who once said Play It Loud. And then instantly apologized for it when stupid people complained. Whaaaa? Next you guys will be telling me that you prefer CRTs rather than LCDs or think Vinyl is superior to CDs*... *(In Reality, it's Not quite my actual, subtle, nuanced, exacting opinion (available upon request only (for purposes of this thread(and furthering my agenda of using way too many parentheses(s))))))...It was more like what if I was one of those guys like in a Jag Forum or something who would write something and then take off with his head down as the fighting starts...Probably better if ya don't answer me. It's just a bit.
  22. Dear Amazon Overlords,

$24.99 and then FREE SHIPPING on Items over $25...

    Is a Dick move!

    1. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

Chewy is worse with free shipping over $40 so I had to buy more "toys" just to get a deal on cat litter...

    2. ∞ Vince ∞

      ∞ Vince ∞

Um... The problem is, there will always be people / buys on the cusp of an offer.

I regularly have to top up on low price items such as Washing Up Liquid (69p) and Harpic Toilet Bleach (£1) because I'll be buggered
if I will pay £3.99 when I have already forked out 40 of your best British notes. On occasion I have had to reconfigure the entire basket to manage it, but I manage it.

    3. ∞ Vince ∞

      ∞ Vince ∞

Couple of considerations, things look cheaper at .99 (it has been psychologically proven to drive more sales which is why most things are .99 and sometimes .95) and Offers which are 10% 20% off or free shipping are NEVER not on amounts like 40 50 100 - all nice round. trip you up - tip you over amounts that make a lot of people go! 'I might as well get that, I'll get free shipping'*.

      * Brits don't say 'shipping', we say 'Postage and Packaging, or Delivery' but do as the Romans do, and invade Britain ;0)

  23. (Late to the party but...) Like everyone else says I'd bet Famicom or specific Famiclone ...Or an NES type game made to look like a Famiclone game! Check the size of the end (you insert) to see if it's NES or Famicom by comparing it to other carts... It's funny I have one of those machine specific carts...It won't play in an NES or any NES clone that I own (Retro Duo for instance), but supposedly works in a Yobo Factor 5, which is itself an NES clone as far as I know.
  24. Yep! Nothing like a little tactile feedback. I must block it out or turn the game up because I can't remember noticing or even hearing it. HMMMmm... BITD I had a ColecoVision joystick (A Questar if memory serves) and it had leaf switches as did my old arcade games (Looking at my Frenzy machine right now). And not too long ago I got a WICO Ball Top (Finally) and man that thing is stiff, and heavy, and rough to use for very long! I'm not the Incredible Hulk after all...I know there's nostalgia, etc., but I much prefer microswitches for their smooth, easy, and accurate operation.
